Elwin motioned for Amora to come closer as he pulled something out of the cupboard. "Well, I would imagine that if we tried to do something of a study we could find something out," he smiled, "but of course that would take a long time. A lifetime."

At the young lord's bidding, Amora knelt on the ground, and he took a cloth from the cupboard and began to wipe gently at her hand.

Or more, Lin mused knowing how one would have to track several families by generation, and then find out how they grew up what influnced them, there would be a lot to study on the matter.

"But it would be interesting," Lin murmured thoughtfully.

"Undoubtedly," Elwin agreed, dabbing away the blood from Amora's wounds. "But to track person after person for generations ... know what their childhoods were like ... an impossible task."

Once the blood was mostly washed away, he took some bandages and began to Amora's hand.

Amora was being strangely silent for once, far from her usual chattery self.

That was true, unless you lived with the family for those generations upon generations, well not fully live with them that might effect what you found out.

"True.... but even to just document what is there, even if you just look at the abilities and the family history, I think one could at least assume it's not purely heirtary, though what influnces abilites yes would be an pretty much impossible task."

"And yet," Elwin replied with a smile, enjoying the debate, "family history means different things to different people in the same family. Take for instance my own family - I have the gift of rapid regeneration, while my brother and sister do not. Now, our family history is that we are a noble family in magesterial power over the city of Daal-Kregger. None of the children in my family have been in any wars, our father was young during the last war. Our childhoods were the same - mine, my sister's and my brother's. We were raised to be presented in court one day, we played with children of the city from time to time, and we spent much of our time learning. Yet I have the gift of rapid regeneration, my sister is able to summon and control water, and my brother is able to see things that others cannot. Trails that should have become invisible months or even years previous."

He shrugged, taking care as he continued to wrap Amora's hand in the bandage.

"Huh.... interesting. Not as clear cut," Lin murmured.

She looked thoughtful and yet in other families it was obviously heirtary. Lin tapped her lip thoughtfully.

"Competely different, but when I mean family history I also mean the history of what sort of abilities reveal themselves. Like you said, same childhood but different abilities, like... there's a family in the Borderlands where a man who can speak to animals had settled and married. What is interesting is that power changed, his grandson cannot speak to animals, but he can... speak.. understand I suppose plants. It's.... not the same thing, but the same idea."

Then there was Pen... Aura seeing, she wondered if he could also see threads too, Lin never asked that she realized.

"Of course," Elwin added as an afterthought, "that's just the gifts we developed. Those we're born with, well, they're a different story altogether."

He finished with bandaging Amora's hand and patted it gently. "How is that?" he asked, looking up at her.

Amora smiled. "I feel fine, thank you," she said softly.

Developed gifts and inborn gifts, Lin had to think about that as well. Well actually that sort of made sense, that it could have been a gift developed over time instead of just happening like Lord Elwin's gift.

The more she thought about it, the more she realized it would lead to a very complicated way of viewing gifts. It made sense though, Elnare-neesan had some second sight, she knew from Yukito, and Gion developed the ability to see auras. Granted those were obvious outside influnces, but it was possible.

It also made her wonder what sort of gifts Garrick and Hana would develop. Snapping out of her zoned state she looked over at Amora.

"That's good," Lin smiled, "You've been quiet."

Amora blushed faintly and smiled at Lin's comment. "I've just been thinking," she murmured. "And listening. It's something to think about, really ... the different gifts we have and how they work. Or don't. I inherited Sight from Mother, and Mother says that my Sight was looking to be stronger than hers ... but since my accident, I haven't been able to See at all."

She flexed her fingers carefully, testing the bandage. "I was just wondering ... now that I can use a sword again ... if my block is gone ... will I be able to See again?"

That surprised Lin, she honestly didn't know that, but it hadn't occured to her to think that Amora had the Sight, probably because she was use to Lothiriel saying things before thinking.

"That's a good question...."

Lin wondered why Amora's Sight disappeared it didn't have anything to do with the fight, as far as she could tell.

"I guess we'll only see in time."

Amora nodded, then turned to Elwin. "My lord," she said respectfully, "I know that it has not yet been the full two hours, but ..."

She trailed off slowly, confused by the grin that had appeared on Lord Elwin's face.

"You may go," he chuckled. "You have proven to me that you do not even need training. I will tell your father that you have done all that I asked."

Relief washed over Amora, and she rose carefully to her feet. "Thank you," she said warmly. "Lin and I were hoping to go back to the city today, and I need to wash first now ..."

Well that was a relief, even though Amora got over her block, just knowing she had that much strength would make continuing training difficult. Espeically if they had to do Lord Elwin's method every time.

Still at Amora's side Lin nodded at this.

"Hope to see you again Lord Elwin."

"And I you, Lin Winters," Lord Elwin replied warmly, bowing deeply in respect. "It was a great pleasure to meet you. I hope you enjoy this fair city as much as I am."

Amora smiled happily. She liked Lord Elwin, but she also liked being able to get away from her training early.

"How can I not?" Lin grinned.

She felt she would always enjoy new places, especially here. Where the Gaia city she was from technology was a big thing, but here it was... peaceful, clean and even being in a city there was a sense of freedom that one can't find on hard cold concrete.

Elwin chuckled softly. "Fare you well, Lin Winters," he said warmly, bowing his head once more. "Until we meet again."

And he bowed deeply to Amora, then turned away and began to wipe the blood from his own arm.

Amora smiled at Lin and motioned for her to follow her outside. "Come," she murmured. "We can wash and get a drink and then we can head to the city again."
