Corrah smiled at Kanis warmly as she fell asleep. She really was very thoughtful ... though she was very much lacking in self-confidence. Well, that would come with time - it would have to, for she deserved to feel good about herself.
With that thought in mind, he promised himself that when her leg had healed, there would be no trace of the wound on the outside of her leg, and that she would have no reason to feel ashamed of it. He got to work right away.
It was almost two hours later when he finally finished with Kanis's leg, and though both he and her leg were bloody, her leg was properly set and wrapped - though so was his thumb, since he had accidentally cut it on a sharp piece of her bone.
He took a piece of cloth and wet it with his flask, then began to bathe her leg and wash it clean. Hopefully the gentle movements would help to bring her out of her drug-induced sleep, as well as soothe the leg. Most of her pain would be gone - as long as she didn't try to move around, that was - but he still wanted to do all that he could to make her comfortable.

Kanis had remained still and quiet not even moving a bit under the drug. Though the soft stroking of a warm clothe on her leg started to draw her into wakefulness.
She moaned softly and almost tired to roll over but instead opened her eyes slowly. Her cheeks turned red with blue as she saw the handsome scared face of her master and she could see his concentration and arm moving on her leg.
She looked down watching his hand working on her still bruised but smoother looking leg. She saw his thumb was wrapped and she felt her heart break. "Sir...you got hurt." she said up still a little groggy and reached to take his hand in hers. "I didn't mean for you to get hurt sir...I am sorry." She tired to think of what her mother would do when they got small cuts and she picked up his hand and brought it to her lips to lay a small kiss on the wrapped digit.
She didn't even looked at her leg yet. She was now more concerned with his hand. She wondered how he had hurt his finger. "What happen sir?"

Corrah was pleased when he saw that Kanis was waking up, and he continued to bathe her leg gently.
"It's nothing," he told her softly, startled when she kissed his wound. "I was careless and I cut myself, that is all. It will be fine by nightfall."
Which wasn't far off.
"What about you?" he asked then. "How are you feeling? Does it hurt?"

Kanis nods, "Yes sir...I am glad to hear it." she looked down at her leg and smiled softly, "It aches but right now it hardly hurts...thank you very much sir!" She then looked thoughtful, "Will I have a scar like you sir?"

Corrah was startled by her question.
"Do my scars trouble you?" he asked, pulling his sleeves down over his hands to hide them from her view. "If so, I can ... try at least to hide them a bit ... and I can do what I can to prevent you from scarring, though I don't know how possible that will be ..."
He had never thought about his scars before ... Armus liked to run her fingers along them, she always seemed amused by them ... but he had never given them a thought, whether they would be frightening to the children ... nothing.

Kanis looked up at him shocked, "No sir! I know they frighten my brother....Ruque...but..." She flushed brightly, "But I love them! I would be honored to have a scar like one of yours...they are so beautiful....your very beautiful sir!" She nearly shouted out before she could stop herself.
She looked down at her leg. "Um....well you did a very good job with my leg sir...I think the scar will be very thin indeed...almost not noticeable." she nodded. "You are very good sir!" she smiled and reached down to touch her darkened leg. "Thank you again for taking such good care of me and my siblings. You and Armus both. We are very lucky you took us on."

Corrah reached out and took Kanis's hand in his own so that she couldn't touch her leg, then put his other hand over it, cupping it between his own.
"I'm not sure what honour it is to have scars," he smiled softly at her, "but thank you ... all the same. I am proud to have you as a student, Kanis ... and if at any time you doubt yourself, just remember that, all right? I do not mind having taken on your sister, and I wish I had not accepted your brother, but I am proud to have the opportunity to be your teacher."

Kanis watched her hand taken up and she watched it nodding. "Yes sir...I will remember it. And I know that we are all glad to have you as a trainer....even Ruran enjoys it...he doesn't even listen to our father like he does you."
She was stupid to say it was an honor to have scars. She probably insulted him. And he did not seem to care that she called him beautiful. She nodded and knew that this was just a temporary. He was only being so nice to her cause she was hurt.
When she was better it would be back to serious and normal training. She had better get better as soon as she could. Before her mind became like her sisters and distracted with thoughts that did not matter to training.

Corrah shook his head softly. "Your brother does not listen to me at all," he corrected her gently. "He is fueled by anger, not enjoyment. If he listens to a word I say, it is so that he can further his own ends, terrorize people into doing his will."
Then he smiled again and relaxed. "But when you are all healed up again, you will have a scar that you can show the others, show to your parents, to prove that you were the first to overcome a true obstacle. And it will also serve as a reminder to you - that no matter what happens, you will heal again. Wounds heal, but scars are the reminders that we are left with to remind us not to make the same mistakes again."
He patted the back of her hand again gently. "And that was one mistake," he finished softly, "that I will not repeat again."

Kanis smiled and allowed her hand to drop back to her side. "I hope you wont think you fail or anything like that Corrah sir when you look at my leg." She nods, "I will keep it covered for you." She nods. "I am sorry I lost my focus again today.
She looked at the setting sun, and this time did not lean into Corrah's hand. "You made no mistakes today sir...but cut your finger." She laughed softly and nodded.
"It is very beautiful up here sir." It had almost a better view that that of her little cave. "I should not take up more of your time sir...I am sure Armus wants to come back and eat and we should all sleep if we are going to train again tomorrow." She smiled and laid back.

Corrah shook his head. "I made two mistakes today," he told Kanis firmly. "The first was trusting your brother. The second ..."
He coughed lightly, his cheeks tingeing red. "I cut my finger," he agreed with her.
The colour faded from his cheeks as he gazed out over the valley in the distance. "It is indeed very beautiful up here," he murmured, smiling softly. "It it not by coincidence that I often stay up here ... it is the best place for viewing sunrises and sunsets ..."
He chuckled at Kanis. "Don't you worry about Armus. She's a free spirit, she will go where she wants, when she wants. Your presence is not keeping her away, don't worry."
Suddenly Armus herself appeared in the shadows from the trees, grinning as usual.
"Not in the least," she agreed with Corrah cheerfully. "Was just out doing a bit of hunting, since Corrah will be staying with you til you've healed, and I'm the only other one who can hunt."
She grinned and flicked one of Corrah's pointed ears. "Maybe that's what I should teach the others til you're back," she teased.

Kanis shook her head, "MY brother was not your fault sir...I guess he got tired of how slow I was." she smiled and nods, "It is beautiful for the the sunset."
She turned and looked at Armus and listened to her. She looked back at Corrah, "Oh no sir...you can't do that. I will be find here during the day..you should go train Aras and Rhea. I wont leave the bed I promise. Nothing will happen wail you two are gone training." She sat back up. "Please don't stop training wail I am hurt!"

"Oh, don't you worry," Armus grinned, reaching over to ruffle Kanis's hair. "Training won't be slowing down at all. I'll just be taking over for a while, that's all. The others are safe where they are, but up here during the day you wouldn't be safe on your own. You'll be needing someone to protect you from the animals."
Corrah nodded. "Wolves and bears don't usually come this high on the mountain," he added softly, "but there are other animals ... weasels, foxes ... perhaps not particularly dangerous, them, but there are snakes and the like that would be a danger, and you're in no position to defend yourself, even if I had already trained you how."
He put one hand on her shoulder and gently made her lie down again. "Now rest," he said quietly. "You need it."

Kanis was not happy with this but she was just a kid and did not know any better. She sighed and laid back. "Yes Armus, yes sir." she said and looked up at the sky. How stupid she was for getting hurt. She was messing everything up. Ut it was only a few days until her mom came up to pick them up for the weekend. Then she would not be so useless.
"How is everyone else Armus?" She asked looking at the woman.

Armus smiled warmly at Kanis. "They're all fine," she assured her. "Already asleep for the night, I'm sure, by now. Brought them dinner, scouted around a bit, and then went hunting ... don't you worry about them."
She looked over at Corrah. "First or second?" she asked him.
"Second," Corrah replied quietly: and a moment later, Armus disappeared once more into the night.
