Sgt_OBrien Lt. Brookman But I get to field four tanks in a legal list without having to form squadrons! crying Plus more bodies = more targets for the firestorm. Maybe I'll drop the Basilisk in favour of two extra infantry squads with flamers and vox casters. Well the problem is you only hafve about 90 men against a lot more Orks most likely. If you have any problems with the small platoons you won't be capping objectives! gonk Remember, all infantry models can contest and capture now, not just troop choices.

Um, I need to double check to be sure, but yes all infantry and walkers can contest, as well as most vehicles I believe...
But only a Troops selection can hold a position. To cut down on specialist heavy armies.

Hey, gang.
I need special characters. Bunches of 'em. Given how the Guard work, there can be an upgrade character for just about any unit.
How does it work? Make your character with whatever rules, wargear, and kit you can think of, and then balance out the points. Then post it up here. It's wonderful!
Now, I've already got a Lord Commissar character, so that is the only thing that's not fair game.

I don't have the Guard codex with me, but I'll try me best from memory...
Hotshot Johnny Pts-30 Bs-5 Ws-3 S-3 T-3 W-1 I-3 Ld-8 Sv-5+ Hotshot Johnny can be taken in any squad where a sniper can be taken, replacing that Guardsman and the sniper upgrade. Weapon-Modified Hotshot Long-Las Range: 42" Str:3 :Ap3 Sniper, Pinning, Gets Hot! Las-Pistol CCW
Theres a rough one, ideas?
And another one I've just made up. Battery Captain Veran Battery Captain Veran may be taken in a Artillery Battery for an extra 40pts. He gives his Artillery piece BS 5. If his piece is destroyed, then so is Veran. Special Rules Ranging shot: If Verans Artillery piece scatters when shooting, you can take the distance it has scattered, then let another piece of Artillery shoot, if that scatters, you may take Verans scatter distance from that pieces shot.

Hotshot Johnny looks pretty good. Given the modifications on the lasgun, though, I think giving him the "Gets Hot!" rule wouldn't be too far of a stretch and would help to balance out the sheer power that he would have otherwise.

And Veran? I thought the Guard needed some sort of Artillery officer, the I can't really explain Ranging shot better than that, sorry. sweatdrop

A good rule, but here's a thought. If he is taken, the artillery can opt to deploy and act as a normal squadron and treat his first shot as their ranging shot. They then scatter off of his shell (like the artillery barrage rules from 4th edition).

Captain "Geronimo" Blake - Elysian drop troop commander
The company command squad in your army may replace its Company Commander with Captain "Geronimo" Blake.
Points: 100 WS 4 BS 4 S 3 T 3 W 3 I 3 A 3 Ld 9 Sv 5+
Unit type: Infantry
Wargear: Flak armour, laspistol, power weapon, frag grenades, refractor field
Special Rules: * Senior Officer * From the Skies! * Rock 'em like a hurricane
+ + +
Senior Officer: Blake is a senior officer and as such can issue the same orders as listed in the company command squad entry.
From the Skies!: True to Elysian tradition Blake has his forces drop into the fray below in massed waves of infantry and equipment. To represent this the following units may be placed into Reserve and deep-strike instead: Company Command Squad (with any attached characters), Infantry Platoon (and ALL attached formations), Veterans Squad, Scout Sentinel and the Armoured Sentinel.
Units that have a Chimera as Dedicated Transport may NOT Deep-strike!
Because of such a large amount of airborne troops little else can be brought along, forcing the regiment instead to rely on other formations for support. As such, the following units count as 0-1 when Blake is in command: Ogryn squad, Ratling squad, Psychic Battle Squad, Rough Riders, Hellhound squadron, Leman Russ squadron, Hydra battery, Artillery battery, Manticore and the Deathstrike.
Rock 'em like a hurricane: Blake is known for his quick assaults that leave the enemy reeling in shock and confusion. All units within 12" of him have the Counter-Attack and Furious Charge special rules, including his command squad.

The cost might need some tweaking as giving deep-strike to most infantry units is a powerful option.
