((o.O Last post in July? What the heck have I been doing?!? Wow, busy life I must lead...Sorry to leave you hanging there Merc! Lets see...))

Only managing to make her way through the servants door, she was suddenly aware that she could go no further. Her eyes widened as she saw the looming figure of another Gaidin standing before her, as though expecting she would come.

Without warning a great force hit her in the chest, an invisible strike delivered with such earnest as to send her tumbling back through the door and into the hallway she was so desperately trying to flee. Nearly at the same time, her grip on Saidar left her, leaving her stunned and breathless. This man...she thought frantically, This man is holding Saidin! She had heard the stories, knew them to be true, but had never met a male channeler face to face.

Quickly reclaiming a hold of Saidar, turning away from the Gaidin, seeing as the man now stood back from the fray. She doubted he would interfere. Facing the Mistress, she glared at the small woman, finally taking the time to look her over. Small of frame, jet black hair but eyes that burned with a golden amber. She too knew this story. A Wolfkin. Glancing towards the Warder Aiken was facing she noted his eye color as well. Well now, the Tower has certainly become an interesting place. Weaving a thread of Air and Fire, she lashed the flaming thread like a whip at the womans feet. "Why must I always be interrupted by the likes of you? Can't you see I have a schedule I must keep?"

Aiken scoffed at the man, sword drawn and ready to fight. The Gray Man paused, cocking his head to the side as he pondered the mans abilities. He could channel, that much was true, but as Aiken had no soul, he doubted the battle would last long at all. "You're confidence is astounding, Warder." he hissed through tight lips.

Dropping into a fighters stance, tainted dagger at the ready, he waited for Markis to make his move. One sliver of a cut from his blade, the man would fall into madness as his soul was slowly eaten by darkness. Once he was out of the way, the others standing in his Lady's path would meet the same fate, then it was only a matter of time before their plan came to fruition.

As the smoke cleared and the path once again became visible, she heard Markis' shout within her mind. Her feet were moving before her mind picked up on the motion, bolting towards the place she had last seen Zeara. She also knew of the servants corridors just beyond the tapestry and aimed herself appropriately.

Nearing her destination, she found herself skidding to a halt as the woman whom she seeked came tumbling back into the hallway, quickly followed by Hawk. Though she could not see it, she knew the man held Saidin. What she could see was his sour expression, though what had caused the mood remained undetermined. She had bigger worries.

Facing Zeara she watched the Green look her over, the womans hold on Saidar strong. "Why must I always be interrupted by the likes of you? Can't you see I have a schedule I must keep?" the woman mocked, weaving flame and air in a long whip. It cracked at her feet but she remained unfazed.

"It is the nature of your schedule that keeps me in your path." Mairyela responded, weaving her own thread of Air and Spirit. The air around her began to crackle with waves of electricity. "Why are you here? You are no doubt Black Ajah, being bonded to one of the Soulless, so what are your objectives?" One wave of the thread struck the ground and the tremendous roar of thunder filled the hallway. "Speak and allow the Hall to determine your fate. Be silent, and I shall mete out your sentence here and now."

Markis smiled at the remark. "Surprising your enemy, in whatever way, is a good way to get an advantage in battle. Don't underestimate me Shadowspawn. Perhaps it would interest you to know that though I didn't bother with the heron mark, I am a Blademaster. I plan to enjoy this fight. Let's hope the abilities of your kind haven't lost ground." He drew his sword slowly, watching Aiken as he held his dagger. It smelled....wrong. So it wasn't just a normal dagger, and avoiding being cut was likely in his best interest.

The sword was to his disadvantage; despite his great speed, even he would be unable to overcome the difference in speed when using a dagger against a sword. Especially with a Gray Man for his adversary. But it meant his opponent would have to get within an arm's length to hit, perhaps two if he accounted for the possibility of it being thrown at him, though it seemed unlikely. Markis himself only had his sword, two throwing knives, and two daggers hidden on his person; it was rather unfortunate actually. His armor or shield or some extra weapons would likely have aided him greatly; but he had not expected a situation like this. I suppose it's my own fault...being a Gaidin, Light only knows what will happen...I should have stayed fully armed regardless...no help for it now...

He removed his coat -throwing it aside. Hawk caught it, keeping an eye on Aiken and the other on Boron- and a pair of heavy metal manacles glinted dully from his wrists.

The hallway was now full of scents, which his Wolfkin senses were flooded with. Burning skin, metal, fear, anger, defiance, all wafted around him. However, the Void enabled him to focus on the scents that he wanted: Aiken, and the acrid smell of his dagger. It seemed he was to begin their combat.

He began with Parting the Silk, but just before the action was completed, feinted, and lunged at Aiken's stomach instead, keeping the other man one and a half arm's length away.

Mercury was not accorded a reply, because suddenly Hawk opened a Gateway, and Skimmed to what looked like a dark corridor.

"What are you doing?! Where are you going now?!"

However, the gate closed before she could make out anything. And he had gone to the trouble of inverting his weaves, so she couldn't trace them.

Anger and irritation played across her features. There was no help for it; she would have to open the bond. It was probably what he wanted her to do, but she couldn't avoid it. She opened the bond between herself and Hawk.

She was mildly surprised to find that he was only just outside her office, in the corridor. And confused to realize that he seemed to be in the Void. Suddenly, it seemed that all she could sense was channeling. There were bursts of channeling outside in the hallway; it began with lots of Fire, and then changed to a multitude of weaves. Suddenly, a flood of saidin swept across the hallway, making her skin prickle.

What in Light's name was going on?? She tried to open a Gateway to where Hawk was, but she was met with both physical resistance and flames from Fire weaves; she was blocked. She opened her bond with Wolf, in an attempt to alert him of the problem, but was again surprised to find that he too was outside in the corridor, and also in the Void. She clutched at her side as a sharp searing pain went through it, in ebbs and flows, probably with his breathing. However, he seemed to seriously be contemplating about whatever he was doing, and this intensified the Keeper's doubts and worries. She could sense a dull aching from his side of the bond; it felt as though he had been burnt.

The simplest answer to her questions seemed to be the most obvious: to go see for herself what was going on. Since the Gateway was not allowing her through, she would use the more mundane passageway, the door. She raced over to the door, and opened it. It swung open easily enough, but the first thing Mercury noticed was the barrier. It looked like it was made of 3 layers of Saidin, but she was unable to discern anything beyond that. There was steam-or was it fog?-that was rapidly clearing.

The situation was quite confusing, and though the Keeper understood that it was a fight, for Light's sake she couldn't figure out what it was about. Who had instigated it? How? She supposed that so long as Zeara was exposed it didn't matter, since it was plain now that she was a Black or something else which amounted to being a traitor.

The hallway had seemingly descended into madness. It appeared that Hawk was the cause of the barrier which was both blocking her from entering the hallways and using the Gateway. She tried to separate it, but a sudden flare from the barrier prevented her, after which the barrier resealed itself. All the entrances were sealed, and it seemed she was isolated in her office, an unwilling witness, until such time as either Hawk let her out or the barrier broke.

Wolf had his sword drawn against Aiken, who himself had a dagger out. Wolf was on his guard, but the fresh burn marks and the bleeding cut on his side were obvious. Seeing the injuries reminded her freshly of the pain which mirrored Wolf's.

The other warder-what was his name? Barton?-was standing dumbfounded in the melee, but obviously at Hawk's mercy in case he got any ideas of intervening. Hawk was holding Wolf's coat, she assumed so that Wolf would have greater freedom of movement. She pounded demandingly on the barrier wall. Hawk looked over at her, and shook his head decisively. She was being ordered to stay where she was! It was likely the safest place, but she was irritated nonetheless. Another channeler could well make the difference in the battle.

Perhaps most surprising of all-or least surprising, depending on your opinion-was Mairyela. Zeara was cracking a whip at the Mistress of Novices' feet, but the other woman was unfazed. The threat of being dragged before the Hall hung in the air.

Wolf lunged, and she knew that his fight had begun. She knew Wolf's level of skill enough to know he could hold his own against most opponents. But she didn't know anything about Aiken. Was he strong? Could Wolf best him?

If anything happens to Mairyela or Wolf, then your barrier and my safety be damned Hawk! I will see to it that Zeara pays dearly.

Hawk caught the coat and just let it drop neatly to the floor behind him. There was no point in holding it; it would just slow him down. Not enough to acutally allow Boron a chance to succeed in anything, but the point stood.

Suddenly the bond in his mind opened, and was again filled with Mercury's irritation, but now mingled with confusion. Soon surprise entered, and the torrent of emotions in her mind were apparent to him.

Someone set off his barrier twice; the first time he was unsure of who had attempted it. But the second time, Mercury opened the door from her office, and tried to force her way in, only to have the saidin Fire weave rebound and explode towards her. Luckily, she was unharmed, and the barrier returned to its normal state. Likely the first time had been her as well.

She pounded on the barrier, clearly demanding to be let out. But as Gateways in and out of the corridor were blocked and it seemed that things would become violent soon, it was safest for her there. He had no intention of letting her out, and indicated as much by shaking his head. Anger spiked through her bond, and he sensed her resolve. He hoped it wouldn't come to that; though she could break through it easily enough, she would sustain some deep burns even with her skill. Paired with the pain she was already feeling from Markis's injuries, with possibly more injuries to come, he was unsure she would be able to cope.

Romvian had been attempting to summon the Keeper into Tel'ar'an'hoid for quite a long time, but something in the Tower was blocking him. It wasn't the One Power. It felt...darker...more ancient. His curiousity piqued, he decided to wait and see later what had happened.

****************************************************

Lord Al'Draco mused to himself. His son's sudden arrival home was quite unusual. It was unlikely he would have announced any plans to visit even normally, but something was unusual. He had heard rumors that his son had fallen for his Aes Sedai, the Keeper of the Chronicles. Infatuation aside, a sister of her position was not likely to be free from danger at any time, and not enough to risk sending her Gaidin home. Perhaps he was overimagining things. After all, the White Tower was as safe a place as possible for the Keeper. And he recalled Hawkeye saying that the Keeper had a second Warder, equally skilled. It was likely nothing to concern himself over.

((Wow, merc, such a busy bee! And so early in the morning? Well, early where I hang my hat anyway, lol. And how were we not friends o.O?!? Thats just crazy! I was so sure we were. Odd...ANYWAY! *rubs palms together* Let's do this thing!))

Eyes tracking the mans muscle movements, Aiken caught the feint just in time to avoid a gut full of iron. He parried back with his dagger causing sparks to shower the now ruined carpet. The air still smelled of burnt skin and fabric, making Aiken grin. To hurt, to steal - both treasures and lives - and to flight was what had convinced him to turn his soul over to the darkness. It had made things a little boring being invisible to all but a select few, but it made his job easier.

The man before him would be a fun challenge indeed. With his trained eyes, the Warder would be able to pick out his movements better, but it would still be difficult. As a Gray Man - or so they called him - he could disappear at a whim. He had allowed these people a glimpse of himself, not only because he wanted to, but because he could. He wanted these people to know his face, to see him as he slipped his knife between their ribs, know that fear as their lives slipped away. That was the best thrill of all.

He couldn't help himself; he gave a sharp bark of laughter. "Heron mark or not, let us see your true skills." Sliding past the blade, feet dancing and gliding as though on ice, he flashed his blade towards the mans side, grinning with madness.

Zeara glared at the Mistress, ignoring all of the chaos around her. Continuing with her intimidation tactics, she cracked her whip back and forth like the tail of a cat. An angry cat. "And who are you to mete out my sentence? I am merely attempting to recreate the Tower into what it once was so long ago. Powerful, intimidating; something to fear. We have grown lax in control, and now nations could care less for our guidance. This must be remedied."

One last crack of the whip towards the carpet, scouring the ornate floor with one last black line and she sent the whip towards the womans face. At the same instance she began weaving a Gateway, knowing her situation was dire. What should have been a portal back to her Tearan homeland was instead a fierce inferno. The fire leapt at her, singing her hair it came so close, before she released the weave with a suprised yelp.
