Poor gal...
Yeah I've played flute for ummmm 6 years now, I was going to march flute, but I made a bet with a friend and well I'm in guard (read guard topic for full story)
At my school we have something we dubbed flute attrition
We get like 20 freshie flutes and by sophmore year its down to 10 and by senior its down to about 2-3, this doesnt happen in any other section partly because there is no "Flute Drama" and they all only have 2-3 freshies join a year (a few exceptions but none as big as the flutes)

We get to play Molly on the Shore and I was happy 'cause that song is the funnest! I was playing all happy and stuff, then my neighbor said to me, "You're supposed to play bottom." And I started crying (well not really, but it was upsetting.) The day May decides to give us a fair chair test I will be very very happy.
To add insult to injury we got new stands with our new school. I guess the brand of them is Wegner, but that is incidentally the last name of our EVIL section leader. It is disturbing.

We alwasy end up with tons of freshmen flutes, too. We've got... lesse... seven-ish freshmen, five-ish sophomores, four juniors, and three seniors (I'm not POSITIVE on the freshman/sophomore numbers... hence the "ish" XD). For a total of 19 flutes (there was 14 last year, and 11 the year before that). They're multiplying. gonk

DevilNightShade our school is huge we keep getting more freshmen come up every year and lesss and less upper classmen we have one senior in our flute section during marching section because the other two were drum majors We had a lot of freshman this year, I can't really say how it went previous years, but we have less sophmores than freshman, and less juniors than sophmores, and less seniors than juniors. What sucks is that like half of our percussion section is made up of seniors, REALLY GOOD seniors too, I mean, they even have competitions between themselves and ended up playing the quads backwards xd When we had a pep band game all the seniors were gone cuz' they had to go to something and the rest of our percussion section is like made up of freshman, so we couldn't really play from such a wide variety of music like we usually do for the games since we didn't really have a percussion section.

We have 3 seniors (lost one today, we used to have 4) 3 juniors 4 sophomores 4 freshmen.
However, this year is our first to split into two bands, one 4th period, and one 3rd period. we have 10 flutes in 3rd (the top band) and 5 flutes in 4th (the bottom one) and no, I didn't miscount, we have one flute player that's playing flute in 3rd and picc in 4th. I'm playing flute in 3rd and oboe in 4th. It's interesting.

Apparently it USED to be split into three, though, back when my BD went there (she's a school alumni). And there was the danger that we might have to combine into one this year (I nearly cried when I heard that, I was so mad). It didn't happen though. We've still got our two bands. There's 10 flutes in the upper band and 9 flutes in the lower. I'm not even going to go into what I think of the flutes in the upper band 'cause I've done it before... all I'm gonna say is that there's flutes in the upper band that I'd trade for flutes in the lower band. sweatdrop
