Guess it's just a question of taste, I don't think using ・・・ is wrong or ugly in any way, I just prefer using … . And if … wasn't used, it would be weird that you get this thing in the IME-menu. ^^;

Hermonie Urameshi Aiko san told me to use ・・・ and that's all I see in books. *Looks in a Japanese textbook* Ah! I think I've got it. You're thinking that the dots should be in the middle, right? It's actuallt a question of fonts, when I write 三点リーダ at this forum they're clearly at the bottom of the row, but when I write them om MSN they become centered. And if you try to first write three centered dots and then press space to view the menu of choices, the 三点リーダ is actually there, the same character as the on you get when you type three regular dots and press space. ^^

But that's because you write the dots unedited. XD Just three plain ・:s. … looks more centered in other fonts.

And why is that all I see in books? I KNOOOOW! D: But you get the same character from the IME menu when you choose the 三点リーダ so it doesn't matter. It looks like an underline for you btw. :S In Minna no Nihongo (a Japanese text book) the three dots are written with 三点リーダ, but it seems to be another case when writing vertically. In Fruitsbasket the three dots are clearly one character because it only takes up the space of one character and can therefore not be three different dots which you write. Tried to write vertically in Word as well: Couldn't write 三点リーダ the way I wanted, but there was another choice where you get three dots in one character, in other words, not three different dots (which you get if you choose choice number 4). Btw, do you ever write something vertically and then add three dots in a horizontal row? :S Looks a little weird to me. :/

Kayla Noelle ③*』 like what are these used for? ③ is used in numbered lists. * is just an asterisk 』 is a close-quote in a style used for book titles and the like.
