As the late morning inched onward to the noon hour, people were off in various places, doing various things. Aylin had Seren's gran to deal with, Chef was off to town to attend the meeting (only to get caught up in yet another energy pillar event), Seren was giving Aureate the grand tour of Barton Manor such as it was, Charm hadn't been seen in a while, and Lorelei and Prim were presumably still in the manor kitchen. That left Lunette in the small reading nook down on the ground floor, wading through books to try to find answers to questions, some of which she didn't even know she had.
*sigh* Where is that butler at? I've needed to ask him about things since I got here, and so far everyone has been kept busy by one bizarre event after another. Every time I think I'm going to get a moment to say what I have to, things pop up. I wish it would just be halfway calm and normal for five minutes. Lunette thought to herself as she began perusing yet another tome on ancient magic.
She was searching like mad through each book, but not really sure what it was she was searching for. Caelen. He would have more answers than any dusty old book. He lived and breathed the dark. He knew what it was like to have all that dark power coursing through his veins, ready to be bent to his will at the drop of a hat. Even with the realization that her power was not quite the same as Caelen's, Lunette still felt he was the best person to handle her particular brand of darkness.
Lunette's head jerked up suddenly from the book she had been staring at with not an ounce of understanding. An epiphany had hit. The pixie had rambled on earlier about how the senshi all had these objects of light, which presumably meant that their power was light-oriented, even if it didn't take the form of light magic. Lunette was significantly different in that respect. Sure, her dark amethyst pendant would glow when she transformed, but she could feel that it had no connection to her taking on her battle form. It was simply a byproduct reaction. Aside from not having any object to rule her transformation, her power was not light. But on the same card it wasn't evil-dark either. So what did that make her, exactly? Was that the reason why it was so difficult for her to feel any sense of closeness or even a minute connection to the others? Frustrated, Lunette crossed her arms on the table she was sitting and and laid her head down on her arms.
Why am I such a freak? Lune whispered to the room in despair.

Prim left the kitchen without saying a word to Lorelei. She felt Lorelei was a bit overbearing for her, and didn't know how to make conversation with her. She knew that Lorelei was trying her best to be nice to her, but Prim just didn't feel comfortable with her. Prim went to look for someone who wasn't occupied at the moment. The only other person she could think of was Lunette. To Prim, Lunette seemed like such a lonely, sad person. Prim only wanted to see Lunette smile. As much as she wanted to be Lunette's friend; Lunette didn't have any intention of be hers. Prim was still determined as ever to at least talk to her. Perhaps Prim's own feeling of loneliness made her feel how Lunette felt. Slowly, Prim crept down the hallway. She could hear the shuffling books and pages within in the corridor. By chance, Prim had found Lunette. She noticed the raven-haired girl looking through some sort of old text. "Uh..hey. What are you reading?" Prim spoke softly as not to startle Lunette. Yet, Prim still braced herself for imminent conflict. It was just the nature of their relationship. Even still, Prim gave a smile while greeting Lunette.

That small, slightly hesitant voice Lunette knew so well to be Prim tugged carefully at the dark senshi's consciousness. For once, the fight was gone, the blazing fire of resentment and defiance had withered to mere coals choking on their own smoke. Lune raised her head from the table where she had slumped in self pity. There was no sarcasm or venom in her voice when she spoke to Prim, perhaps because they were both in the same boat at the moment. Too many questions and not enough straightforward answers. She stared at the table as she spoke, looking the very picture of dejection. At this point, I'm not even sure what I'm reading anymore. I've read the same dang sentence five times and it makes no sense. Maybe I'm trying to hard. Sometimes books don't have the answers a person needs. I know what the butler said, and I don't doubt his resolve in keeping me in check, but I need his advice. He's the only one here who knows anything about the darker powers in the world.Lunette looked straight at Prim with a rare expression of pain and inward frustration on her face. I'm not like the rest of you. Maybe that is the reason why it's so difficult for me to feel like I belong. I don't even know if I'm supposed to be a part of this....I don't know, save the world yatta yatta? If what that pixie said is true, then the warriors of old are carriers of power based in the light. I know mine isn't. So what does that make me? The enemy? A neutral? It may be hard to believe, but the idea of being the enemy scares me to death. I have so many unknown factors in my life that I'm beginning to feel like one big enigma. It was a tremendous admission for Lunette. She wasn't know for being unsure or even scared, but with no idea what part she had to play in the coming days, it only added to her self-doubts.

Prim was surprised Lunette had not lashed out at her. It felt weird, but it was also nice for a change. She could tell Lunette was feeling very different right now. She was afraid of who she was and if she was the evil one. Prim's heart went out to the raven-haired girl. She placed her hand on the girl's shoulder. She so desperately wanted to hug the anguished girl, but didn't know if it would help her any. She looked into her companion's sorrow-filled eyes, it only hurt her more knowing her pain. "I'm sorry...I don't know what kind of power you possess. But..I do know, you are not evil. You're different, it's true. Who's to say that you're not the purest of us all? I mean you saved me once already. If that doesn't prove you're good, then I don't know what does. I'm sure one day you'll find out why you are the way you are. I don't think there's anything wrong with you though. In fact, the way you are is the way I like you best. Even if it's not said, you are still my friend. I'd still fight for you if it came down to it, even if you did turn evil; because in the end you're someone I care about. Everyday I'm still fighting for that girl that I lost during the first pillar. You are no different, I fight for the people I love." Prim's eyes began to well with tears. "So please, don't give up. You're not a failure." She rubbed away her tears.

Massaging her temples Mikayla quickly realized this conversation was getting out of control Okay I can see you point on the event;s in the square to be honest until I felt the stirring's with the first attack I believed Gaia to be devoid of Senshi , so I was worried at first, but then you all showed up,and I thought things would work out in the end.
You can believe I am afraid of all that if you wish but you are only half right, I am not afraid of who I am nor have I taught my family in any way to fear themselves or each other, think it if you must but it is not true, what I do fear is how my family would see me as someone who ran from her supposed fate surely there are things that were expected of you that you have feared or fled from? And Seren can stay she want's to her friend's are here and she want's to help them, but please I am not ready to disclose about myself.

Where does she get the drive to be so positive about everything all the time? Lunette wondered as Prim spoke, and not for the first time either. Ever since the two had been paired together in school, Prim's positive outlook had baffled Lunette profoundly, sometimes to the point of aggravation. However, today it was more a sense of awe at a girl who some would deign to call naive. Even if she lived to be 100, Lunette was sure she'd never fully understand how Prim was able to see the silver lining in the face of so much going wrong. A small chuckle of irony escaped Lunette's lips. You really are something else. I have no idea where you get all this positive perspective, but if it keeps you fighting, then I guess use it. I suppose the thing that keeps me fighting is a determination to not be what I fear the most. It's not what I'd call fun, going through life with no idea what the majority of it even was. Some days it hurts like Hell, but mostly it makes me angry. It's what drives me. If it fuels my resolve, I won't stop using it.A small hint of the old fire crept into Lunette's eyes as she spoke. One way or another, she would find out who she was and, perhaps more importantly, if she had a penance to pay for past transgressions. With some of her fighting fire back, Lunette looked back down at the book on the table. I suppose until that butler finally has a minute to spare, I'll just have to keep scouring these old books. You would think that-She stopped suddenly mid-sentence, her head jerking up in shock. Something was off. She felt an odd surge of dark energy. Lunette jumped up from her chair so quickly that she knocked it over in her haste, but left it. She dashed over to the only window in the room and tore back the curtains. She inhaled sharply and cursed under her breath. Still staring fixedly out of the window, she said I don't think any of use can afford to sit around and wait anymore. We need to start training, and fast. That dark energy from earlier is back, and at a greater level of strength. I can feel it massing in Barton Square. Blast it anyhow! Where is that butler?!

Prim had nodded gently to Lunette's reply. She was glad to see that Lunette had drive to continue. Prim was startled by the sudden dash to the window that had left the chair on its side. She could tell things were about to get even worse. "How could it get stronger? I wonder if it's the same foe we fought before, or someone new? You're right though, we can't just stand here. Those clones are sure to break through the manor gate if we wait too long. Caelen might be able to hold them off, but even he has limits. He needs our help, all of us." She nodded to Lunette.

Aylin let out a frustrated sigh as she placed palm to forehead shaking her head. The conversation was beginning to head in complete circles and once again Mikayla glossed over the more important part of what she had told her. The last card played in her carefully planned out strategy had failed. If Seren knowing she was a Sesnshi didn't phase the woman, laying down the guilt trip only resulted in making the woman angry with her, and the fact that her granddaughter was hurt in the last battle didn't even phase her then nothing would get through to her. Mikayla was under the impression that this was simply about Seren wanting to be there for Lunette or one of her friends from school when it went much farther than that. If Mikayla wasn't going to see that then Aylin had one final card to play and hoped this time she could get the woman to actually want to stay and be there for her granddaughter and the others.
Aylin knew she had to help guide the others in their journey to become a Senshi but the fact of the matter was she had zero clue on how to trigger someone's transformation nor did she even know what base their powers lay in. The only one she had any clue about was Prim and that was only because the teen had transformed twice already. She needed another person with prior Senshi experience to help out and while she wasn't certain how long the woman Lorelei would stay at the manor or even in Barton Aylin knew she had to try one final time to get the woman before her to put her granddaughter's safety before what she saw as a silly irrational fear.
"Oh come on mother goddess are we going to be going through this again," Aylin thought aloud a bit frustrated over the way the entire conversation had been going before turning her attention to the human woman.
Aylin had expected some resistance from the woman but she had thought it would come from a grandmother who was prepared to say no from the get go: no to Seren staying, no to Seren becoming a Senshi, and no to Seren training with them. What she wasn't prepared for was yes sprinkled with no. Yes Seren could stay but there was still the no part when it came to the teen becoming a Senshi. It seemed like however Seren's grandmother became a Sesnshi she was dead set against teaching Seren how to transform and dead set against her granddaughter getting into the middle of the battle she was now a part of.
"Look I've told you I don't care about your past and whatever reasons you now have for turning Barton town into your hiding place. What I care about is getting your granddaughter and the others the right kind of help in learning how to use and control whatever abilities they might have. Yes there are still Senshi around on Gaia and some of us are better suited to the title than others," Aylin began making vague references to Lorelei she knew Mikayla wouldn't understand, “And yes, I've transformed several times but I'm barely what you'd call a Senshi. My grandmother struggled for six long frustrating years to teach me and when it looked like I would never be able to properly control my Senshi magic she talked my father into talking me into joining the military. Don't get me wrong I loved that life because I found a way to compensate for my screwed up magic so I can teach the teamwork and battle tactics no problem but I barely have a grasp on how being a Senshi actually works. I still have a million and one questions about the brooch of Alnair and why it seems as though it has a mind of its own now.
The thing is, when I mentioned your granddaughter coming here unconscious you barely moved a muscle and instead focused only on what I said about you. You've decided to turn this into how I'm so wrong about you that I wonder if you blocked out that part about Seren being severely hurt yesterday. What you don't seem to realize in all of this is that your granddaughter is desperate for answers. She's confused as hell about all of this and if you refuse to tell her about her true heritage now she's likely to do something that could end up causing her even more bodily harm. She's a very smart young woman and at some point she's going to try and make herself transform even if it means getting into danger again, which will definitely lead to her being hurt again. You're scared of what she'll think of you if the truth comes out. Well guess what Seren's the same way when it comes to you finding out about her knowing she's meant to be a Senshi. She's so confused about all of this that she doesn't know if you'll actually accept her. No, she didn't directly come out and say it for herself but when someone like us begs to keep their abilities a secret it's either because they're scared they'll be rejected for it or afraid someone close to them will be hurt because of them. So trust me on this when I say on top of being confused as all get out and mad at Kai for what he said Seren is definitely afraid but not of you and what you'll say but that you'll be hurt either by the witch behind these attacks or by her own hand if she isn't taught how to properly control whatever Senshi power she might have. She likely thinks you're this easy to hurt and bruise grandmother whose real power comes not from some mystical source but in this awesome drive to be a smart confidant woman not afraid to forge a path in a man's world of business because that's the kind of granddaughter your son is very likely raising. And she's more than likely afraid she'll hurt others around her as well. That's where the fear comes from. It comes from the girls realizing that they just might be living weapons that can hurt people, people they love most. Seren is looking for straight answers and I really can't give that to her. That's where I had hoped you'd come in."
With one last desperate sigh Aylin took her brooch off the table as Kai moved back to her shoulder before standing up to head towards the closed doors of the game room. If things were going to sink in for good and Mikayla was going to agree to more than just letting Seren stay Aylin had to play the next part of her hand carefully.
"I think you have a lot to consider here because if this is as you say, Seren wanting to help her friends, then wouldn't it stand that she be taught from her predecessor before her how to transform and access her magic so she can help them in battle? If you have any concern for your granddaughter's physical safety like I hope you do then you'll at least give her the ability to transform. There are others who can take care of the rest if you'd rather not expose your powers," Aylin added in as she opened the door before stepping through to the other side into the front hall to wait for the woman to come after her.
Closing the door behind her, Aylin leaned against the wall nearest the game room and waited for what would happen next.

slowly turning back toward the door with a sick sense of a feeling Leif pawed the door open with oscar on his shoulder. Looking out once more he saw the woman from before and gently tapped her on the shoulder before coming to life with energy. As he spoke softly looking onward as if nothing else in the manor was a solid object the young man spoke in a sagely tone. Please do not think these the ramblings of a mad man, but the heavens above . . . they shine with the light of imminent darkness to come. Long ago i saw the same lights warning of that danger. . . . . please your help maybe needed to keep this problem at bay as the light is not as strong as it once was . . . . Feeling his own strength flicker like a candle in a hurricane Leif gasped before dropping to his knees trying to keep himself upright as the small hedgehog offered reassurance by leaning against his jaw and nodding slowly.

Chef took his time getting from the manor to city hall. He was in no rush to get to another boring, unproductive meeting with the council. Really, he was only going to stay on the council's good side. Nothing they decided would really matter, because they had no idea what they faced or how to deal with it. And if Chef was ridiculed for suggesting that Caelen lead an investigation into the matter, there was no way he was about to let the council know about the magical teenage-or-so girls staying at the manor. However, in all reality, those girls were probably the town's only hope, and Chef was going to do all that he could to help them. "Some of them are going to need a lot of help, though..." the young man thought. As Chef approached town hall, his attention immediately shifted to the two unusual young women who stood before it. While Chef wasn't a native of Barton, he has spent enough time around town hall to recognize those who frequented it and he didn't recognize either of the two. Chef couldn't help but get more apprehensive as he came closer to the young women. It looked to him like one of them was emanating something dark, though Chef initially thought his tired mind was playing tricks on him. Within moments, however, the same dark aura surrounding one of the women began to engulf town hall. Frightened citizens fled from the building in every direction as the structure neared collapse. Soon the only people left were Chef and the two young women. For a split-second Chef thought about confronting the two, but looking over at the crumbling building in front of him reconsider. Still, he wasn't about to let think they could get away with this. The young man addressed the one with the dark aura around her who seemed to be the leader of the bunch. Or, he tried to. The collapsing town hall drowned out his words, and the young woman pointed that out to Chef, seemingly taunting him. Though somewhat frustrated, Chef remained steadfast and repeated himself. "I don't know who you think you are, but you won't get away with this! We will stop you!"

DV looked at the man, her eyes doll like, wider and more glass looking than a normal person's. Her head titled to the side, as if in a long questioning thought. This is how remained as she spoke, moving slowly as if her feet were pulling up from water and landing back in watery tread. She might've been looking straight at the person before her, but her gaze betrayed her mental state, as if she weren't really seeing with her own eyes. She didn't notice Ayel hovering near the edge of the building either, she really didn't care. " We....?" She looked around. "Why aren't you curious." She said to him. "One who doesn't scurry off at the first sign of indifference, aren't you the fool. I am not interested in a fight that can be avoided, you know." As she spoke, ice casted from her feet, freezing the ground where she stepped. It would've seemed almost pretty if her strange wipsy dark energy cloak wasn't around her shoulders...though that was softly fading as she moved. Her unblinking eyes looked at her audience, "So, perhaps now I could be heard, though. I am a gatekeeper of dark power, dark power destined to rise and crumbled this city. I cannot stop it. No one can. All I can do is try to convince you all to devalue this place in favor of survival. Of course, I guess a demonstration is in order." The ice quickly ran out toward the building, which was already greatly fractured, and froze it over. She blankly said, "Astral Blizzard" and snapped her fingers. The building behind her quickly fractured, splintering into a dark pile of dust in an instant. Unfazed, DV walked over to the one who had fallen in the wake of Ayel's drain, and grew irritated, seeing the figure had apparently vanished, or hid herself DV didn't really care. "Ayel, you're not worth the pain, it seems. If I wanted to hurt these people I could certainly have done so. Such trouble, I'll have to have a chat with her...next time." She continued to walk off, her audience completely forgotten.

Ayel Ayel had not anticipated the building collapsing. Still, she was able to put up enough of a barrier that she was not physically harmed, despite being buried alive in the rubble. It was enough that she had to deal with DV's condescending tone and her insistence on not killing the pests that lived in Barton. She'd lost her sunglasses in the collapse. It showed how much DV and her master's plans really mattered to her in the long run that the sunglasses being lost bothered most. Yet, still, there was that energy she'd gotten. It didn't mix well with the other energy she'd stored and was causing a mild burning sensation inside her that made her feel rather irritable. Enough to completely forego the deal with DV and start destroying things...use energy. It was almost as if the new energy was compelling her to do it. Nonsense, of course...but she felt an urge that prompted her to lash out (not that she needed much prompting at the moment). Feeling DV moving about, and the energy of another nearby she decided staying entombed in the remains of the pathetic hall building was unproductive.
From the heap of debris suddenly a steamer of purple energy shot upwards. It wasn't very thick, but it cut through the stuff on top of her easily. Just as it vanished two more appeared moving diagonally across the ruins of the structure kicking up dust and sending chunks of stone flying. Each ribbon made a high pitched screech as they traveled opposite directions. After a few moments they tapered off and then a purple flash from deep within the pile caused a massive eruption of material to be sent skyward. The area around the city hall became completely shrouded in dust and falling material. Ayel slowly began rising out of the hole she'd made for herself. As the cloud began to thin, she lowered to the ground and began walking toward where DV was. Her eyes were glowing violet like the energy she'd used. Something was happening and she was beginning to think perhaps DV hadn't been so noble in her peace offering, after all.

The manor was beautiful, Aureate thought. She had been expecting the hallways to be a little bit gothic, but as she continued to take a good look around, the hallways provided a rather elegant touch compared with the manor's exterior. They were walking along when Seren turned and opened a door leading to a cosy looking kitchen with a blonde lady bustling about the kitchen. It would have brought a smile to the brunette's face, if it weren't for the way the woman occupied her time fiddling with whatever she could get her hands on. Seren asked her, who's name turned out to be Kagura, for a plate of biscuits and cups of tea for them to share while waiting for her grandmother to be finished with her discussion with the rose-eyed pixie, but with a small sympathetic smile and an introduction of herself, Aureate offered her services to the woman who was, possibly unnoticed by the younger girl beside her, just as tense as the other ones she had encountered. The woman behind a cooking apron hides her worries well, she thought. While curiosity was a part of her being, she would never try to pry about the events that troubles the household. As an ending note, Aureate wanted people to be comfortable in telling her things in time, despite her natural want for interactive bonding. She held back a sigh as the kettle finally whistled.
Thank you, Ms. Kagura, Aureate said, waiting back as the other girls arranged the silver tray where the biscuits and tea were set upon. This looks very lovely. And it was. The biscuits smelt delicate to the senses, and the tea, Earl Grey to her delight, was as aromatic as she was comfortable with. She didn't fight the tiny smile making its way to be shown, and with gratitude, the brunette invited Kagura to accompany them in the garden. She didn't miss the way the woman's soft green eyes widen at the invitation, and perhaps something else, but Kagura didn't say anything which puzzled the brunette more than she should be. Then Kagura had dismissed both younger girls out of the kitchen with shooing gestures and a warm smile, and Aureate found herself being tugged away by her friend to their seats. But before she could even sit down and talk, the brunette stood transfixed at the sight of the manor's garden. Oh my, she whispered to herself, wondering if this garden could possibly outdo her own. It's beautiful here, Sen (1). I must meet the person who tends to this garden. Is this the only one or are there more gardens in here? The landscaping was downright gorgeous, but the competitive nature within her refused to acknowledge it wholly. She let out a wheezing laugh before sitting down on the metallic chairs, forest green eyes still capturing the sight around her.
A/N 1: If you don't mind Kags, Aureate has a nickname for Seren and shortened it to Sen.

Hearing the door open and then close from a distant room, Prim felt the need to go see who had left. She hoped that it was Aylin, so that she could warn her of the impending darkness that grew closer. "I'm going to find the others Lunette, I need to let them know. Perhaps Caelen will show up as well." She took off toward where she heard the door. She saw Aylin who was leaned against the wall, as well as an elder lady that had just exited. She wondered who the lady was, but left it, there was no time. "Aylin, the enemies are only getting stronger, and they are going to attack the manor soon if we don't do anything right now. I need to know how I can be stronger; strong enough to save this town and this world. I need your help." Prim's face showed tremendous worry as she pleaded with the pixie. Lorelei turned to the man who had tapped her shoulder. His words begged her help. The solemn look on his face was enough to tell the gravity of the situation which they were facing. Lorelei offered her assistance to Leif, propping him against her shoulder and setting him upright in a chair beside her. She placed her hand over his, and looked into his weary eyes. "I promise you, I will do everything in my power to help." She squeezed his hands tightly, before releasing. "The battle has only begun, we will stay strong till the end."
