He never knew words could sting so much up until that moment, and the harsh slap across his cheek made everything ten times worse. Nick placed his hand on the railing to balance himself out, lowering his head. His eyes were pained and he felt as though his world had been tipped upside down. "I'm sorry.." he said quietly, even though she was long gone. God, he felt like absolute s**t. Nick tensed his jaw and when he heard footsteps shuffling back down the stairs, he looked up and saw Kate who walked right past him. He soon stumbled over to an empty booth and laid down across the cushion, resting his drowsy eyes. Nick soon fell asleep to the bliss sound of drunken mumbles and good music.

Her sight became blurry because tears started to cry,the tears rolled down her cheeks as she rested her head against the wheel. Falling in love with another guy was a bad idea...though she really loves Nick,why couldn't she just tell him that? It took a few moments to relax before she finally drove away to her apartment.
In her apartment,she just took off the jeans she was wearing then laid on the bed.Frankie texted her and asked if she wants to go out but Kate decided not to answer and just hide her face in her pillow. In the end she fell asleep,when the morning came Kate stayed asleep. She turned her alarm clock off and sighed softly,closing her eyes back again. She knew that she had work today but she decided to stay home and do nothing,she prefers to lay on her bed forever!♥ ¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´

Nick woke up the following morning bright and early to the feeling of his phone vibrating in his pocket. With a low groan and closed eyes, he slid his phone out and opened his eyelids just enough to see what was on the screen. It was a text from his best friend Sam. 'Nick! Just a friendly reminder, Lily's birthday party is today. We and the guests should be there in a couple hours.' it read, which caused Nick to practically fly up out of the booth. "Guys! Everyone in the kitchen, NOW." He shouted. All of the employees dropped what they were doing to gather around the kitchen. Nick jumped onto the counter. "Alright. We have a bit of an issue... today is my buddy's daughters birthday party and I completely forgot about it up until thirty seconds ago.. so... we need everyone to make this work. The guests will be arriving in--" he looked around, not seeing Kate anywhere.
Nick's blue eyes narrowed. "Has anyone seen Kate?" They all shrugged or shook their heads, glancing around a bit. "Goddammit..." he muttered, placing his hands on his hips momentarily. He took a breather before he pointed to Joseph first. "Joseph! I want you to start cooking chicken fingers and curly fries. Ryan, you'll grill the burgers and Mark, cheese pizza. Enough to serve twenty kids and possibly parents. Got it?" He lifted his eyebrows questioningly. They all chanted their "yes sir's". It made him happy to know that they were all ready and willing to make this work. With a faint smile, he hopped off the counter before taking out his phone and going through his contact list, calling up Kate. He pushed a hand through his dark unkempt hair, gripping it gently at the back. He prayed that her phone was on. Nicholas gave a sigh at the mental checklist of things that needed to be done. A cake needed to be purchased - he would get Kate to do that -, he had yet to go home and change, he still needed to buy Lily a birthday present... and the decorations needed to be purchased as well. In only two hours time.

`•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸♥ The blonde female fell asleep again,this time she covered her head with the pillow so the sun won't bother her.Her makeup was probably messed up and her hair was tangled and messy but Kate didn't care,it's not lke she's going somewhere.Today she decided that it would her free day and just stay in her bed. Suddenly her phone started to ring and Kate ignored it at first but in the end she decided to pick it up,noticing it was Nick. What did he want? She was still angry at him..well,mostly sad.She brushed her hand through her messy hair then answered the call."I'm busy,what do you need?" Her voice sounded very sleepy and grumpy.She slowly sat up and walked over to the bathroom,when Kate glanced at the mirror she jumped a little. Her face was totally messed up and she looked like a scary panda with dark circled eyes. She turned the water and splashed a little bit of water on her face before she started to clean it with makeup remover tissues.♥ ¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´

He let out a sigh of relief when the phone began to ring and began pacing back and forth across the kitchen. "Pick up, pick up, pick--" he murmured, just as she answered. Her tone was what ticked him off. First, she treated him like s**t last night and now she actually had the nerve to give him sass? "Yeah, I'm sure you are you f*cking slacker. Anyway, you're gonna have to take your thumb out of your a*****e and get your goddamn pretty little a** over here RIGHT NOW. We have a last minute birthday party that we need to prepare for and we need all hands on deck IMMEDIATELY." He hung up without waiting for an answer and began to jab his thumbs against the screen. 'I need you to go to the bakery down the street and pick up the prettiest cake you can find. I also need you to stop by Party Packagers and get decorations.. balloons, little hats, pretty much anything you think a four year old girl would find appealing. AND I DO NOT WANT JUST ANY DECORATIONS. I want Barney because she is OBSESSED with that purple dinosaur.' he tapped send, then deciding to be polite he sent in another text, 'Please and thank you.'
He told the crew that he would be back in half an hour or so before jumping into his Chevy Camaro and driving steadily through the busy streets before arriving at Toys R Us.

`•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸♥ Kate sighed when Nick spoke to her and told her to get her pretty little a** to the restaurant,she wanted to refuse but then Nick mentioned that they have a last minute birthday party. Kate stayed quiet and pressed her lips together when Nick hung up,sighing softly."F*** you too Nick.." She placed the phone on the couch then quickly took a shower and washed her face,making sure she would look normal again. Once she was done,Kate checked her phone and saw the message Nick sent to her.So she only needs to buy a cake and decoration? Well that's the most fun things to do! Kate loves to decorate things.'Got it,leave it to me.' She sent the message then quickly wore a cute outfit with white matching flat shoes.Kate made sure to fix her hair and brush it so it will be smooth again,she placed a little bit of makeup then walked out of the apartment.
The first thing she did was to search for a good bakery that could bake the perfect cake for a four year old girl. There was a bakery close to her house so she entered into inside but the workers told her that they can't do such an order in a very short time. It took her a very long time so search for a bakery who could accept her order,usually people ordered cake a few days before the party but Kate didn't give up. She drove from bakery to bakery,asking but everyone refused.After more than a hour,she finally found a small bakery who could accept her order."Thank you so much!" Kate told what kind of cake she had in mind and then the workers started to make the cake quickly though they said that the cake will be ready in a few hours.
Kate got into the car and started to drive towards the Party Packagers to get some Barney decoration. She bought the most pretty Barney decorations,colorful balloons,plates,hats,wall decorations,cutlery,napkins and etc.. Once she bought everything she needed she paid for it and placed everything in the car. Before she arrived to the restaurant Kate decided to buy Barney balloons figure,after that she drove to the restuarant. Everyone were being busy and so was Kate,she decorated the restuarant by herself. Placing decoration on the wall,hanging the balloons and placed the plates and everything on the table. In fact,she did a very good job.Kate just hoped that it won't be ruined because she did her best and it took a very long time to decorate the whole restuarant.♥ ¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´

He had a tough time finding something that Lily would be interested in. She wasn't like other four year old girls - she was a bit of a tomboy in all honesty, however she did like playing with makeup very much. Whenever he babysat Lily, she would always get into Jamie's makeup kit and just used up every single last bit of it on herself and sometimes even Nick. Sam was a single father so naturally he didn't have makeup as girly appliances lying around his home. After a while of roaming around, he finally decided on a fingernail and makeup kit, a drawing kit and Pokemon: X and Y for her 3DS. With the gifts, he also picked up a small roll of wrapping paper, a gift bag, a roll of tape, a card and a pack of tissue paper.
He went back home to change into clothing that didn't reek of cigarettes and booze. Nick slipped on a pair of black jeans and pulled a tight fitting undershirt over his head, with it a green plaid top that he decided to leave unbuttoned. To top it off, he wore a pair of black Vans and left his dog tags around his neck (this). It wasn't long before he reached the restaurant. He quickly gathered the presents and such from the back seat and made his way inside, a smile splaying across his lips. The decorations were perfect and he knew Lily was going to fall in love. Nick lifted his sunglasses and put them on his head, nodding his head impressed. He didn't look at Kate - he couldn't. After the events that took place last night, after she yelled at him and slapped him for nothing... he refused to look at her. One of her nails had actually left a small red scratch on his pasty stubbled cheek. "Thanks." was all he said.
He walked past the blonde to an empty booth and began to get the gifts ready. They had an hour before Lily and the guests would start arriving and Nick actually thought everything was going to go down as planned. All he wanted to do was give Lily the best birthday party and thanks to his more than helpful crew, they were going to pull it off. He would most definitely be thanking them after the party. Danielle, in the mean time, was helping Kate get cups and cutlery set up around the table. She saw how Nick refused to look at Kate and it made her smile slyly to herself.

Placing the plates on the tables."No problem."She pressed her lips together into a quick smile before she lowered her head again. Even though Kate wanted to speak with Nick,it was probably late.Sure,she was angry at him and probably he was too but she wanted to speak to him,tell him he true feelings..But she just can't do it.Her bright blue eyes glanced at Danielle from time to time,remembering her look before she kissed Nick. Sighing softly.
After an hour the bakery called Kate so she picked up the phone and spoke to them."Wait..What do you mean the cake isn't ready? The party already started.." Kate placed her hand over her forehead,sighing heavily. If the cake won't be there then the little girl would probably be very sad. She glanced at the people who were in the restaurant,kids were running and playing around.
Without telling someone,Kate grabbed her keys before she exited from the restaurant and got into her car. She drove to the bakery which was far away,it took her some time until she finally arrived it. Kate knew that everyone were already in the birthday party and it was time to bring the cake. Kate walked into the bakery and spoke with the owner,she had to wait for like a half hour before it was finally ready! The workers placed the cake in a big box and Kate just put it back into her car,she even drove to Toys R Us to buy a cute Barney plush toy and a cute dress.After that she drove back to the restaurant,quickly grabbed the big cake and the presents.It was really heavy but Kate tried to be careful. She placed the cake in the kitchen took it out before she started to put candles on it.♥ ¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´

The guests showed up before Lily and Sam did. Either their parents or older siblings were dropping them off and Nick greeted them politely, ensuring that he would do his best to make them as happy as he possibly could. He stacked the presents on a few empty tables and placed his hands on his hips, looking around a little bit. Pop music blazed through the many speakers in the room and the kids were laughing and playing and some even dancing, with huge grins plastered onto their little faces. Nicholas couldn't help but smile at the sight. And then he realized something which made his smile fade. Where was the birthday cake? His eyes twitched around the restaurant and saw no sign of Kate, and just then Sam and Lily came walking through the doors. The little girl spotted him immediately, and goodness did she look stunning. "Underwear boy!!" she squealed, a big toothy grin appearing on her lips as she ran through the crowd to see him.
"Lilypad!" The tall man bent down and picked her up, covering her face in kisses. His smile was as big as hers and he couldn't remember the last time he was this happy. She giggled and put her tiny arms around his neck, giving him a peck on the cheek. "Happy birthday, sweets. You don't look a day over 2." Lily had never looked more adorable than in that moment. Her brunette hair was put into a nice up-do and she wore a white dress that had laced flowery designs. Her collar was made of pearls and it made her bright blue eyes appear even brighter. "And you don't look a day over... 173!" she blurted, cupping his cheeks in her small hands. Nicholas faked a gasp at her remark. "But I'm only 28!" He exclaimed and Lily laughed. "Maybe you should get a face lift." She pushed his cheeks up which made his eyes crinkle. In that moment he resembled a chipmunk and the little girl couldn't help but giggle at the sight. "Someone loves you, you know." he said.
"Who?" she asked, thinking she already knew the answer. "The weirdo across the street." he teased, and she laughed even more. "No, you do!" she let go of his cheeks as wrapped her small arms as tightly as she could around his neck, hugging him close. "Heck ya, I do." Nick smiled once more and began to carry her over to Sam who was chatting it up with Mika, David and Freddy - his old band mates who he had kept in close touch with over the years. They all began to talk mindlessly, Nick still holding Lily in his arms. She sat on his forearm, arms wrapped around his neck and legs around his torso with her tiny head resting on his chest. He hoped Kate had taken care of the cake.

`•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸♥ The decoration were ready,the tables were set,the cake was ready and now all Kate needs to do is to go out and surprise the little girl. She walked over to the door and glanced outside to see everyone chatting and talking to each other,kids were playing around and having fun and even Nick looked happy! She watched him quietly and noticed how good he was with kids,it was really adorable.
Her hair was a bit messy from all the running so she walked over to the mirror,fixed her hair and outfit before she returned back to the cake. The cake was perfect,Kate just hoped that the birthday girl would love it.
After placing all the candles,she lighted them and turned off some of the lights in the restaurant. The restaurant became a bit dark but it looked great. Kate picked up the cake carefully and carried it outside so everyone could see it."Happy birthday to you.Happy birthday to you.." Slowly Kate started to sing as she carried the heavy cake carefully,taking step after step.People started to join and sang along with her until she finally stood in front of Lily."Happy birthday to...Lily." She crouched down and held the cake in front of Lily,waiting for her to blew on the candles."Don't forget to make a wish." Her smile was gentle and happy,her bright blue eyes looked at Lily to see her reaction.♥ ¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´

The lights suddenly went out and some of the children gave little screams, and Nick turned around to see Kate walking out with a delicious looking cake. Soon enough, everyone joined in and Nick set Lily down on her feet. The little girl clasped her hands and bit her lip shyly, glancing around nervously at all the faces who were watching her. "Make it count, kiddo." Nick said in a hushed tone, mostly looking at Kate who sat kneeling in front of Lily. She candle light reflected in her blue eyes perfectly. He was glad that she pulled through. Finally, the brunette took a deep breath and closed her eyes before blowing out the candles and smiling big as everyone broke out into an applause. "Thank you." she said to Kate, her dimpled smile beaming.
He finally managed to peel his gaze from Kate once the lights flickered back on. He pressed his lips together and decided to walk back into the kitchen to check on the food. There was a platter for each meal - one for chicken fingers, another for burgers, fries, and a larger platter for the cheese pizza. Everything looked and smelled delicious. A few minutes later, Nick came out wearing a Barney party hat with the platter of burgers in his hands. "Lunch is served." he called, causing the kids to all shout excitedly and hurry to sit around the table, all of them chatting amongst themselves about the most random things. Following behind him were Joseph and Danielle with the rest of the food. The song "Happy" was playing and it honestly was perfect. Sam placed a little silver tiara atop Lily's head once she sat in her birthday girl chair.

Kate's smile grew bigger when she saw how happy Lily was,glad that she liked the cake. When the lights flickered back on,Kate slowly got up and placed the cake on one of the tables.
Kate turned her attention to Nick when he walked out of the kitchen wearing a Barney party hat,he looked really adorable! While everyone were being busy,Kate walked back to the kitchen to take the presents she bought for Lily before she walked back to her."You look great Lily." She smiled before she handed the presents to the little girl."You can thank Nick for this." Kate smiled gently,walking away to help with the food.♥ ¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´

Nick and Sam were sitting with Lily munching on pizza when Kate came back out with her own presents. He made a sound of disagreement when she tried to give him all the credit, mouth still full of food. "No, you can thank Kate. She was the one who went out of her way to decorate the place for you." he said once he swallowed. Sure, the Barney theme was his idea but Kate was really the one who should be taking most of the credit. He didn't look at Kate, didn't even pay her a glance. Danielle's hurtful words seemed to be playing on repeat in the back of his mind. "... she also said that she could never be with a guy like you and that you're the kind of guy she's supposed to date before she meets the guy of her dreams - the ideal guy."
And so, he ate his slice of cheese pizza in silence and zoned out completely. "What's wrong, Uncle Nick?" he heard Lily's sweet voice ask suddenly. "Hm?" he asked, curving his lips downward as he shrugged his broad shoulders. "Nothing," he said, paying the girl a warm reassuring smile. Nick leaned over and kissed Lily's chubby cheek. "How's your burger?" He asked, deep voice cheery and happy. Being the oblivious four year old she was, she just grinned. "Good," she answered.

Plus what Danielle told her made her feel upset. She wasn't in the mood to party but she smiled for the kids,not wanting to ruin their moods. She wasn't even hungry..Kate just wished she could go back home and stay there. After helping with the food,she decided to pour herself a glass of lemonade,she in front of the counter and drank the lemonade quietly. Kate took her phone out and texted Frankie,apologizing for not answering to his texts yesterday.♥ ¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´

Lily soon began to chat with her friends and Nick was talking with Sam until one of Lily's favourite songs began to play. Nick looked over at the birthday girl and she looked back at him, he waggled his eyebrows which caused her to shake her head vigorously. They always danced to this song when he babysat her though she had always been the shy type and when it came to dancing or doing anything crazy in front of other people, she got all nervous. "Oh, yes. It's happening." and without hesitation, he lifted her up and started singing the male vocals. Her face flushed pink as Nick took her hand and started to rock his body to the beat although a smile slowly crept across her face and it wasn't long before she started to sing back to him, laughing. He was a very outgoing guy so dancing and singing with Lily in front of people was not embarrassing at all for him. They were both into it, letting loose and all in all just having a good time like she deserved. Some of the adults were even taking pictures and the kids even got up and started dancing, too.
