"An artist is a dreamer consenting to dream of the actual world"

Faint confusion touched the slate orbs as he watched the dark smile breathed into life on Jack's face as he purred a demand to know what Kaiko had been about to say. Given the girl had a tendency to run her mouth when it was better she stay silent he had no doubt she'd been about to say something intended to start a fight. He hadn't wanted to pick sides at that case and had silenced her the quickest way possible. The ice had worked to get her out but apparently had upset his roommate who was getting more upset by the minute. Tipping his head slightly to one side the blue haired heir watched the red-head move towards his bed stiffly with a flat comment that had the ice frosting lightly along the other boy's aura.

"With Kaiko? Don't be ridiculous."he drawled, moving to his own bed with the same level of forced casualness in his walk. Given it was still mostly dark he stripped the sling off and started unwinding the bloodied bandages wrapped around his arm. Kaiko was more like what his sister SHOULD have been, had she he might have been inclined to actually appreciate a member of his family. He set the bandages to the side to be picked up later and grabbing the kit Dr. Tarsh had left for this purpose.

With a practiced move he started applying several salves to the stitches while letting the silence stretch out between them. He was annoyed that it had upset Jack that he'd stopped him from fighting with Kaiko, for one it would have drawn instant attention to him from his father, Kaiko's too. For another...she wouldn't have stood a chance. The brunette was dirty when she had to be but not even close to a fighter. She tended to cry pretty quickly too. He still wasn't sure why she was there and that was something else he needed to figure out. Besides, he had technically promised to keep her safe years ago. And on the flip side, he hated denying Jack ANYTHING...including a fight. He was growing more and more annoyed as his thoughts tumbled behind the protection of the ice barrier that had slammed into place like a steel trap.

'How far do I want to go?' Dion didn't quite understand this question. How far did he want to go? How far did he want to go where? Dion racked his brains for a meaning. "Oh. Oh! Um. I d-don't really know." Dion's cheeks heated up from the question and images that went through his mind. His brain started to smoke just thinking about it and so he shook his head to get it back on the right track. He looked back up towards Aizen's silhouette. "I-I don't know."

So lend me your heart, and lend me your smile.
Because a smile's contagious, and sometimes I need it.¤

Ren Matsuri

the sound of your voice...could re create the heavens
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ren and his friend went in and out of the dorms with boxes and instruments, and suitcases. They parted ways soon after, and Ren went to sit in his dorm room to organize things. Ren unpacked the boxes and put their contents in the appropriate location depending on the item. he fell on the bed soon after, the leather jacket he wore when he rode his bike was hanging from the slightly open bathroom door, flung there carelessly on the way to the bed, which he flopped onto. It wasn't long until he fell asleep, tired from the trip.

Aizen sighed, chuckling lightly. He wasn't as old as Aizen, so he didn't understand the question. I'm asking if you want to do that with me... he replied. His face was turning a bright shade of red. He manuvered his hands to slide across Dion's legs gently and leaned in to kiss his neck. Just say if you feel uncomfortable... he whispered softly.

Jack did like hearing the inherent dismissal in the tone, but remained unconvinced. The little white angel on one shoulder that liked to annoy the hell out of Jack from time to time stepped in and whispered that he ought to give Kaito and Kai the benefit of the doubt. After all, there were plenty of circumstances in which one normally allowed a person into their space, allowed touching and slight clinging and defended them despite it. But the demon on the other shoulder was gaining the high ground in the argument simply by pointing out that this was Kaito, not just anyone. That he was theirs and not a jungle gym for random people to hang on. That Jack already knew what it would be like if he lost him because he’d broken the rules and lost the lighter.

“Oh right. How could I forget your warm and cuddly nature? I mean people are always hanging off you without you minding, why would I think this time was special? I guess I really don’t have a damn reason to be jealous.” His shoulder’s rolled back a bit as he fruitlessly tried to adjust his own body on the bed, looking for a comfortable way to lay. Because as relaxed as his body was, nothing felt comfortable or right the way it should have been. His fingers dug into the base of his skull where they sat behind his head, frustrating boiling over. He’d admitted he was jealous because apparently Kaito needed this situation spelled out for him, the b*****d. If the blue eyed boy didn’t see anything wrong with this, wasn’t going to offer any more explanation than that he knew Kai and ask Jack not to show her exactly why she was no longer allowed to touch Kaito like that, then the redhead had a right to be pissed.

He let out a breath, voice a little softer this time though no less angry. “And if you think she wouldn’t like the idea of you being at least bi, you’re a damned idiot. You don’t react like that when someone touches your ‘friend’.” Jack was living proof. If Kai had come in and hung all over Yukio or Dion, the redhead wouldn’t have looked twice. He wouldn’t have felt the urge to growl and throw something, preferably Kai herself. And it wouldn’t have hurt. Jack was genuinely grateful for the dim light at the moment because he didn’t have Kaito’s skill in hiding emotions and he didn’t want to look hurt. He just wanted to sound mad.

Confusion and rejection flashed razor sharp for a moment in the midnight orbs before they vanished under the placid waters of meekness. He couldn't understand it, one minute the answer was yes and the next no. Back and forth, so obviously he was doing SOMETHING wrong. He usually knew what it was...mostly because someone was screaming it at him before hitting him. He hadn't taken the attack yet but the rejection flared just as hot in his chest as he dropped his gaze to the ground and stepped back once more from the brunette who was hurrying through the halls. Because he was determined to destroy himself, he continued following. He always did come crawling back, just like his mother said.

He flinched when his arm was looped through and Dorian used it to pull him along after him while holding candles and the key the office had given him. During which the entire time Aiden had kept his gaze firmly locked away from anyone and a mix of open invitation for the others in the room as well as careful withdrawal into the shadows. He was well practiced at managing both at the same time, so he was overlooked but if he got caught he was not a threat. He didn't care about the wet shirt pressing against his shoulders or the hair dripping water onto his cheeks. In some ways it was nice that SOMETHING could cry for him. He was desperately searching for his mistake, why he'd gotten pushed away this time. Something at dinner? He hadn't THOUGHT he'd done anything, but smiles meant so little didn't they?

The lite candle he was handed cast shadows on what was visible through the inky darkness of his hair and he watched it dance with a fascination that in some ways reflected the sharp edges of the broken soul. But then he was smiling exactly as usual with full promise of anything in the dark the imagination could produce as he accepted the key. Dorian already stepping back and telling him to get dried off. Aiden wasn't sure he could believe the offer on his room, because he was beginning to doubt just about everything with the constant back and forth.

"I will."Aiden's bedroom voice and smile gave away nothing of the fractured thoughts behind his docile eyes, keeping the pained confusion from showing when his bangs were pushed back to reveal the placid orbs with a chuckle. A light touch for just a second that brought pain in a very different way...and then Dorian was walking away. The child shattered on the surface as the darkness swallowed the singer before Aiden lifted his candle and blew sharply to destroy the telling light.

Wrapped in darkness of his own his eyes quickly adjusted and he let the key fall from his hand to the floor before walking away from the open door and deeper into the school. Leaving a dripping trail behind him, he would dry off naturally, he always did. His destination unknown he simply faded into the complex maze of the school, aided by darkness, he was getting close to needing sleep but he'd wait and explore for one more night. Maybe find somewhere to listen to the rain...or even stand in it. The rain was clean, he always loved the rain.

You're Poison, don't wanna break these chains.

"An artist is a dreamer consenting to dream of the actual world"

The blue haired boy rewrapped his arm by touch as he only had an occasional slash of lightning to give him a glimpse into the room. His fingers flexed slightly, nothing touching the flat emptiness of his eyes or expression as he realized he wasn't going to be able to draw. He really needed it at the moment as Jack's anger was practically radiating from his bed over. Kaito's cold front usually did the same so what was meeting in the middle? At the annoyed and sarcastic words Kaito stiffened his own slate orbs narrowing despite the fact Jack couldn't see them.

"I've known her since I was a year old, Kaiko is just Kaiko, she's always been that way."he informed the other male in a voice that was just as annoyed by showing it in frigid tones. He leaned back against the headboard with an annoyed expression briefly filtering across his face as his turned his gaze towards the outside where flashes of lightning both close and distant were at least something to look at. Better than sitting in the dark and realizing it was bothering him that Jack was upset. Worse, he wasn't sure how to fix it. After all, he wasn't used to relationships like this and it wasn't as if Kaiko was a threat...if that was the case he would have been with her long before now. The girl was always near him when she could pull it off.

He shifted his gaze briefly back towards Jack's disembodied voice had come from when he stated in a softer tone that Kaiko apparently wanted him to be bi based off the way she was touching him. Frowning slightly Kaito rebuilt the situation in his mind and tried to find a difference from the way she usually acted, which there really wasn't any. Slate brushed his forehead as he shook his head and dismissed the thought.

"Kaiko is like a little sister, Jack, nothing more."his tone was as flat as an artic winter as he closed his eyes and pressed his good fingers against his forehead in a rare sign of aggravation, but as it couldn't otherwise be seen that was fine. At least the red-head was still talking to him...and he sounded JEALOUS which was a good in a way. Just the fact it was over Kaito was like being upset with a rock for sleeping in the same room with someone. It was ridiculous.

"IN EVERY LIFE IT HAS BEEN SAID THERE COMES A TIME TO JOIN THE DEAD"

xxxxxxʂʋʀɪɛʟ∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙

Suriel remained in the supervision of the men on either side of him until they reached the dorms. He knew what they were, probably, but he had a hard time focusing on it. The world was made of cotton and he was almost afraid to touch it in case he got stuck, pulled in and covered with white and maddeningly soft un-reality. The injections had done a beautiful job of taking Suriel’s edge away but some part of him was still awake enough to recognize it was wrong. Not awake enough to do anything about it, just enough to torment him with the idea that things were off. No wonder his mood was always the most sour when the medication initially wore off.

He felt a key pressed into his hand and looked down at it with vacant eyes. Room number six. He could do that. It would be nice to only share a room with two other people, wouldn’t it? Unless there were others. Unless that had been a lie. There were so many students, didn’t that mean they could sleep where they wanted, could find him. Paranoia began to creep into Suriel’s thoughts, worming its way into the line of thought before being gently pushed away by the cotton he was still surrounded with. He forgot what he’d been worried about and looked down at the key again. Room number six.

He listened as his guard told him he was on a strict probation. Attempts to leave the school unattended, attempts to harass other students, attempts to ignore the school rules… any first offense would get him kicked out. Suriel found it odd that they were attempting to create a prison with the threat of taking him out of the prison if he misbehaved. That probably meant there was something to the school they believed would appeal to him enough that he would wish to stay. Suriel doubted this to be accurate. Doctors, therapists, psychiatrists… they all wanted to see inside his head, see what was wrong with him. Those were secrets he didn’t want to share. And if they didn’t know his secrets (not for certain anyway) then how could they know enough about him to know what he would want?

He waited for the men to leave but they stood their ground, apparently willing to wait for Suriel to go into the dorm and officially become the school’s newest problem. Blue eyes blinked slowly at them before he turned and headed into the hallway. He passed a few other people in the darkness, not quite able to focus on them. Dark hair, silver hair, green hair. It was a distant kaleidoscope of colors at the edge of his vision.

He found the room and ducked his head a little as he went inside. His eyes immediately went to the brightest thing in the dark room, a small screen held in the hands of his newest roommate. Suriel moved silently closer, soon just at the foot of the bed, watching the figure play. Small noises were coming from the video device and his head tilted with a sleepy curiosity.

“What’s low?” he asked, abruptly breaking the silence.

Jack was less than comforted. The redhead angrily bit his lip in the darkness until he tasted blood. His entire life. Kaito had known the girl his entire life. And they’d been that close all the while too. If Kai had always been that way, it meant she really did have a kind of claim, a right to touch Kaito. She had permission and had had it far longer than Jack would have guessed. He didn’t want to imagine the brunette always there with him, able to know more about Kaito than Jack could hope to learn in the time left at school. No wonder she acted like Jack was some odd anomaly if she’d been the only one allowed to be that close to the blue haired boy for so long. Jack gave his lip another vicious bite before letting go to draw in a deep breath.

“That’s just peachy, Doc,” he muttered. The only thing remotely soothing in this situation was the idea that Kaito really didn’t see what was wrong with it. And while that was annoying as absolute hell, it probably meant Kaito wasn’t actively thinking of cheating on him. It was cheating wasn’t it? They’d never really defined what they were, what their relationship was. ‘Lovers’ sounded way too cheesy and they were definitely past ‘friends’. But they hadn’t really sat down and hashed it out and Jack had no intention of trying to do so. Sometimes trying to define something destroyed it, gave it walls that cut off the air.

But he couldn’t believe Kaito was being this dense about the girl’s obvious crush or obsession or whatever the hell it was. He could buy, sort of, that Kaito wasn’t consciously interested in the girl. Kaito had taken a hell of a lot of convincing to admit he liked Jack though, so it wasn’t as though the other male was particularly good at recognizing that sort of thing. She’d probably have to jump him. And Jack didn’t want to give her that chance. Which was hard to prevent if Kaito insisted on being obtuse.

Jack couldn’t hold still, shifting where he lay and finally sitting up. His fingers fiddled with a cigarette as he swung his legs over the side of the bed. “For being so damn smart you can be really ******** stupid sometimes.” His knew he was being selfish and bitter but trying to guard someone who didn’t want to be guarded was really damn hard. He needed a walk before he kept going and did something on scale with kissing Yukio again.

"See you later," he murmured, barely managing to suppress a parting shot about hanging a tie on the doorknob if he was 'occupied' so Jack wouldn't walk in on it. See? Progress.

The door opened and he moved into the hall.

Gavin had long since lost track of time, he only knew he'd moved through three dungeons and moved up several levels. He'd have to work with his healer more, she was falling behind the rest. WHY did they always make the healers slower leverlers? It was a serious design flaw in the blonde's mind. Maybe he should write a better coding and send it in? Mmmm seemed like a lot of work just for FF to have better healer classes.

Lost in his own thoughts the petite boy had no idea anyone else had come into the room, he was aware he was supposed to have roommates at some point but he was more than a little distracted at this point and no longer dedicating a part of his attention to noticing when they did finally arrive. He didn't plan on talking to them and usually it was easy to ignore people because they liked to hang out with their friends and do things. Easy.

His laughter rang clear once more as at a rather pointed line from one of the man characters about the antagonist. Probably not the best writing in the world but Gavin had always found it entertaining enough and his light giggles proved it as he pulled the stylus from his mouth and clicked the button to continue the conversation with it while his laughter trailed off only to fad into silence once more.

Rich brown orbs glued to the white screen he didn't see or hear anyone coming towards him until someone suddenly spoke into the renewed silence from just over his shoulder. The screen jerked upwards as he involuntarily flinched in shock and sucked in a squeaked gasp, spinning his head around fast enough he probably should have gotten whiplash.

"You scared me half to death!"he gasped, the hand holding the stylus pressed against his chest as he felt the rapid fluttering beat caused by the sudden burst of adrenaline. His breathing had accelerated to match but his expression was coming back down from scared rabbit towards huffed annoyance as he tilted his head and turned the screen to shine the light on the other boy who was thin and taller and strangest of all had a glassy, almost zombie-like, look in his eyes.

Almost instantly the annoyance was replaced with a mixture of confusion and something softer, he wasn't a people person but he WAS a good guy and this kid looked like he'd just taken a bat upside the head. Did he have a concussion? His pupils sure weren't responding to the movement of the light he'd shined on it from the DS screen. To talk or not to talk? Now THAT was the question...a long suffering sigh and he rolled his legs to the floor.

"Hey, are you alright?"he asked, pitching his voice lower as he stood carefully, not to hurt his ear drums if he was sick. Gavin had very little knowledge of people because he just didn't often hang out with them, so for all he knew this could be a serious sign of sickness. He lifted the hand with the stylus and slid it up under the messy green-brown strands to press against the boys forehead.

"Well you don't seem to have a fever..."he murmured, rising up on the balls of his feet to get a closer look at the glazed blue eyes, not really knowing that space was something polite to maintain. He continued to frown at how glassy they were.

"Defiantly not normal. I think you probably should lie down, I can get the nurse or something."he smiled reassuringly, the expression a little rusty from disuse but trustworthy enough as he tried to guide the kid to one of the unclaimed beds and get him to lie down before he passed out or something. It figured it'd be his luck to get someone who was sick when he'd never been sick a day in his life and he wasn't used to people.

Dorin found his way down the hall, pace slowing now that he was indoors, letting the rain drip from his clothes and hair to leave a trail of water. With some luck he could drip-dry himself enough to keep from soaking his own floor. The thunder rumbled but the hallway still echoed oddly in the darkness. It seemed like the storm had sealed the sounds of the school, keeping them fresh and bright with nowhere to go, nowhere to disappear to. The dim light had already heightened the singer’s senses and as he passed the door next to his own, he caught a familiar voice and paused.

Aizen.

For a moment Dorian felt relief. Aizen was home and seeing him would push the confusion away, remind him why he’d been resisting the newest temptation, why he was determined to keep Aiden safe but take it no further. Aizen might not look at him the way he had before Dorian had screwed up and left him, but the solution for that had to be there somewhere. He’d fix it and the bittersweet longings would fade away and-

And Dorian stopped cold, hand raised to knock on the thin dorm door in front of him. In the silence he’d been concentrating so hard on the idea that seeing Aizen would make everything alright that he’d hardly registered the faint soft words coming from inside. His stomach rolled and Dorian’s face fell into an impressive blank mask. His brain just couldn’t remember how to show emotion, couldn’t even pick an emotion to settle on. ..asking if you want to do that with me.. The tone left no doubt as to what ‘that’ meant. There was another whisper, this one too soft for Dorian to catch. His fist trembled, still raised. He brought it down onto the door, too gently to actually make a sound. His forehead followed and he simply leaned against Aizen’s door in the dim light of the candle he still held clenched in the other hand.

His first instinct was to burst in, demand what the hell was going on. The image of that blonde flashed through his mind, the one Aizen had been absently caressing in the hospital. He didn’t want to see that again. He’d talk to Aizen, have this all out in the open, but…. Not then. He was too angry, too upset. Too damn stupid to hang onto something that had been amazing. If he could Dorian would have spun the clock right back to the moment where he’d walked away. Aizen had gotten hurt so much in the past because of him, fights and scratches and trouble…. It followed Aizen from the moment Dorian had stepped into his life. In leaving, Dorian had been convinced that the boy would be safer, happier if they were separated while he was gone. Because the singer couldn’t be there to make sure things never got too out of hand, to tease the smaller male into trying to be a little safer.

So damn stupid.

He turned abruptly, disappearing into the room next door and sinking into the small couch that had replaced the absent beds. The room had been designed to house three people and with only one occupant it was downright roomy. For the first time Dorian wished the room were smaller. If he’d been younger he would have liked to crawl under a blanket and wait for morning. If he hadn’t given himself such a beauty of a hangover the night before, he might have tried that again. Anything to keep from picturing what was going on in the room next to him.

He changed on autopilot, stripping out of wet clothing and toweling himself off. Pajamas were the usual soft sweatpants and he flopped face first down onto the bed with a groan.

xxxxxx[ Dear Diary, ]

Mel adopted his best plaintive look at the idea that Mika would refuse to kiss him. For all his childishness he was never able to pull off ‘innocent’ quite as well as his short stature would have indicated. The best he got was something like ‘hand in the cookie jar’ sweet, but he used it where he could. Mel had been sick before and knew full well that the threat wouldn’t be upheld, but he didn’t call Mika on it. That would have ruined the game for both of them. Instead he merely smiled and made a small motion, tracing an ‘x’ over his heart. “I won’t get sick.” And for Mika it was the truth. Mel had an obviously thriving immune system or his penchant for straying into puddles would have been the death of him long ago.

His head turned around at the musical sound of lightly clinking jewelry. “One was holding the other,” he clarified with a wide smile, obscuring the moment of possible truth with the addition of a lie. Lies were just so much more fun than the truth. The only person he’d met that was more interesting than any lie could be was Mika himself. He’d tried once or twice, looking for a way to introduce Mika that would beat his real history, but he couldn’t do it. The silver haired albino was the only truth his mind didn’t want to let go of. Because if Mika was a lie, then Mel might forget he was real when the other had to leave every summer.

The green eyes were right back on the silver ones when his wrist was grabbed. He didn’t pull away even on reflex, absolute trust in the movements behind the playful smile. He saw Mika’s grin for a moment before his eyes automatically fluttered shut again at a warm tongue on his skin. For just an instant, Mel was still, the constant movement halted in pure enjoyment at the touch and smooth caress. When Mika spoke, the spell broke and Mel grinned, leaning into the kiss enthusiastically. “Of course. I promised.”

He started an idle spin, dizzily righting himself when he heard the purr. Mel grinned and raced after silver. Unlike Mika, Mel couldn’t have made more noise if he’d been an entire herd of elephants, small legs slapping feet hard against the ground, bouts of laughter escaping. It shouldn’t have been possible for someone his size to be so noisy.

He passed a room and his hand reached out automatically. The difference was, this time it opened. He caught himself on the door frame and pulled his body around, momentum slamming him briefly into the wall before he bounced back off. It wasn’t anything to be concerned about. Mel might as well have been rubber for all he usually reacted to small mishaps.

Inside the room there was a redhead lying on one of the beds, apparently fast asleep. There wasn’t a regard for privacy to keep Mel out so he crept into the room, managing to at least remain quiet enough not to shake the walls this time. One hand slipped forward, petting a sleeve of the leather jacket, testing the softness of the material.

"An artist is a dreamer consenting to dream of the actual world"

A flare of icy temper snapped around Kaito almost audibly as his eyes narrowed in the dark at the mutter. Why was the red-head making this into such a big deal? He didn't care for Kaiko other than as a possible 'sister' type figure, in his own version of it. He allowed her to touch him because she had cried if he hadn't when she was a child and he's simply gotten used to it. Unlike with Jack he didn't enjoy it, he merely tolerated it. Yet in a way he could sense the issue in that neither was sure of their place with the other.

Kaito knew he shouldn't have anything to do with his roommate, but he'd already given into the fight that he was simple drawn to him in a way he hadn't been with anyone else. He WANTED to touch him, be near him, protect him, a million other desires he'd only ever held towards his art and even that was a pale imitation. Yet what exactly WERE they? If he defined it would it help Jack understand that Kaiko didn't think of him that way, she was just being herself? Kaito hardly ever paid her any attention or thought unless she was actually near him and even then only because she and his promise demanded he do so.

"Excuse me?"Kaito's mind came back to the present with a snap at the words echoing in the darkness. The ice in his eyes matched by the ice in his voice. He was NOT happy, and the barrier and glacial cold slipped into place with the finality of death as he heard Jack moved across the room with a tossed out 'see you later' that was it.

He felt the urge ripple through him to get up and follow him, try and define what they were to solve this, but it was buried under the ice of rage at the parting comment. The door closed behind the red-head with a sense of finality that sealed the blue haired boy's decision. Forcing himself to lay still he lay fully back on the bed and closed his eyes. Carefully burying himself behind layer after layer of glacier ice he refused to apologize or placate when he WASN'T at fault. Jack was being unreasonable, so JACK should be the one to come back and fix it.

When a few minutes later he realized he still wanted to move after the other male he reached his other arm over and deliberately closed it over his injured arm. He slowly closed his hand until he hit the barrier where he wasn't ripping the wound open or damaging it, but brilliant sparks of pain arched through his system. He held it with a flat, empty expression as he let the pain ride him through thought. Releasing it a moment later and clearing his mind. Thinking about the internal structure of a computer he began building it bit by bit in his head and closed his hand only when thoughts of the red-head interfered with his plan of emptying his mind.

"You'll always crawl back, begging for more you little b*****d. You can't hide how much you want it."Aiden whispered softly, mimicking his mothers lilting tones to perfection even with his richer voice. The rain softening the words but taking away none of the venom as he leaned his head against the hard bark of the tree he was sitting on. The reason he'd spoken the words from long ago to himself, because the tree sat beside a window that remained dark but then he didn't need to see who was inside to KNOW.

Exactly as he'd done to HER, he'd found himself right back at Dorian's feet. No matter how much he twisted the emotions in his chest Aiden couldn't pull himself away from him. It was his curse, to want those who could never find him worth anything. Then again, who did? And in the end he was reduced to stalking.

He didn't cry, he'd probably long forgotten HOW, but the sky was more than willing to oblige him by providing the caress of water down his cheeks all the same. Even tucked into the branches of the tree Aiden was soaked completely through, his school uniform plastered to his light frame built for sex. Dark hair obscured his eyes which stared sightlessly at the window as he mentally poked at wounds probably best left alone. But it wasn't as if the brunette knew he was here, or would worry about it. He had no intention of sleeping and he'd already hidden his check in one of his many new hiding places. Plus the rain was nice. It was chilling him to the point he couldn't really feel the pain any more and he could hope it might wash away the darkness. Because he'd realized why Dorian didn't want him. It was because he was who and what he was. The singer was bright and lite from with in, maybe the rain could make him clean enough to get to touch him someday. No, he really didn't believe it would, but maybe just a little of the darkness.

You're Poison, don't wanna break these chains.

Jack didn’t really care where he was going so he made no attempt to steer himself. His movements were stiff and dramatic, physically shutting out the last clipped words he’d heard from Kaito. That voice had not been happy and part of Jack reveled in the idea that Kaito at least got to be as mad about the situation as he was. He didn’t want to be the only one pissed off, grinding their teeth. He could still taste the blood in his mouth from where he’d been worrying his lip. The flavor was distracting enough to keep his mind off the idea that he’d probably dug himself into a hell of a hole, one a certain brunette might want to exploit the moment she got wind of it. Jack should go back, explain to Kaito that he was only worried because Kaito meant too much to him at this point. But damn it, he’d already proven that! He’d done his best to show Kaito what the blue eyed boy meant to him and this was important. Shouldn’t Kaito have just believed Jack when he said the girl didn’t think of him as a friend? It was so damn obvious but he’d pointed it out anyway and Kaito still didn’t believe him. Damnit!

Jack didn’t even notice he’d moved outside until he found himself in the rain. He ducked back under the awning just outside the door and crossed his arms over his chest, stubbornly refusing to go back in. There wasn’t really anywhere he did want to go. Except maybe Kai’s room, find a way to warn the brunette off. Except the shorty would probably go crying to Kaito about it and then the redhead would be even further in the doghouse than he already was. Great. Just beautiful. For the moment, he couldn’t touch a damn hair on the girl’s head. Kaito’s request was the best defense anyone in the world was capable of having.

At some point a new cigarette appeared, twirled between his fingers until he struck a match against the dry side of his shoe and lit it. Smoke curled out into the rain, vanishing behind the heavy drops. He couldn’t see more than a few yards anyway, not with the way the day was ending and the storm was continuing to rage on. He drew in a long drag as the end of the small white cylinder lit in the darkness.

“Trouble in paradise, Firefly?”

Jack’s eyes flew open in an instant and he nearly inhaled the cigarette in his surprise. He coughed and blinked, peering at Robin who looked like he’d materialized form nowhere, a bag thrown over one shoulder and a large box in his arms. ”What the hell are you doing here? They had exactly parted on the best of terms and Jack had figured he’d seen the last of the gray haired young man. Jack still didn’t know exactly what had happened between Robin and Kaito but he was guessing it hadn’t involved sharing a pot of tea. Kaito had nearly killed Jack’s ex right in front of him.

”Trying to get in out of the rain,” Robin rolled his eyes. ”Grab the door would you?”

“Transfer,” he said easily. “You think they sent you here because this place has a pretty name? This is one of the best schools in the country.?

”Right. You’re not here to see me. Total coincidence.” Jack scoffed, moving his foot just a bit so Robin couldn’t get the door open should he try. The other male shrugged as if the answer doesn’t matter.

”I narrowed my choices down to a few. And if I chose the one where I’ve got a friend, why’s that a bad thing?” He shot Jack a grin. There was something like an apology in it, an offer to let their latest encounter slip past, be pushed aside in favor of trying again. And Jack found he was tempted. Even before he and Robin had been… whatever they were, they’d been pretty good friends. The gray haired boy was an expert at attracting trouble and pulling them out of it again. It was fun. It was stupid, careless, dangerous, wild fun. And more than he wanted to admit, he missed that. Besides, he was still pissed at Kaito and right then didn’t feel much like respecting the fact that Kaito would want him to stay the hell away from his ex.

”Just friends...? Jack confirmed slowly.

Robin raised an eyebrow. ”Goddamn you’re full of yourself. Yeah, just friends, Firefly. I’ll play nice with your Koko.”

”Kaito,” Jack corrected, hard pressed to contain the smirk threatening to push across his lips. He relaxed several degrees and finally pulled open the door, holding it so Robin could get inside. It put him a bit out in the rain and he was damp if not soaked, but in a better mood now. Robin was an a*****e of the highest degree, but he wasn’t a liar. If he said he didn’t have any prospects on Jack, the redhead was believed him.

”Am I overstepping friendship if I ask you to frisk me for the key in my pocket?” Robin asked, trying to maneuver the box outside one of the dorm rooms. Jack grinned.

”Hell yes.” His voice was full of amusement, entertained by watching Robin swear under his breath and drop the box long enough to pull out a key, the bag slung over his shoulder nearly tipping him off balance.

”Oh shut up,” Robin demanded, but his own smirk answered Jack’s.
