Ranka blushed when he said something worth protecting, never thinking about herself in such ways. Though, to imagine Sheryl going all out on someone was rather... scary. It would be over quicker for the person if she decided it to be so. And if not, oi. She didn't want to imagine such things happening to him. It made her feel a pang of pain. Probably due to concern.
Her gaze met his as his attention returned to her, she listened and attempted to process what he was saying. Emotional value.... That was easy enough to understand. Or at least, it was very logical. It was like how if he held her hand or touched her face she felt happy. It was just a matter of experiencing it she supposed. If she had an idea of what to look for, then it was much easier for her to understand. She nodded slowly, pausing as he spoke that word. Love. She felt her heart beat painfully, going stiff, sliding her hand away from his face. The memories again. Her heart was beating at a slow and painful rate, voices flittering in her ears. The man and woman... they are speaking. She couldn't hear. They hug, whispered words... Elders shouting, woman is crying. She screams at the decision that is made.
She inhaled sharply as if coming up for air after being underwater for too long minus the coughing. Her back straightened up more, her hand trembling as she held his. Panting, she felt afraid, very afraid. But not quite for herself. She slowed her breathing, her eyes lowered to the ground. It didn't take long for her to normalize. "I...I'm alright.... Just the memories again..." She murmured, a tear rolling down her cheek. An overwhelming sadness had fallen over her, closing her eyes for a moment. Love.... Why did the word trigger such a response from her body? "So love is involved with such actions? I...." She paused, opening her eyes as she tried to return to the previous topic, knowing it was futile to try to not worry them yet she was going to try anyways. "well.... is love a stronger form of like? Does like develop into love?" She asked quietly, wiping away the tear the trembling in her hands not yet done. Sheryl smiled softly and nodded, she trusted he would. Even though Ranka was probably built more durable than he. As the two began to speak amongst herself, she was going to allow herself to drift into meditation in the hopes of decreasing the amount of time this would take. However, something began to happen with her sister. Her eye shot open, brows furrowed as a frown of worry creased her features. She tried to move but failed, instead only succeeding in causing herself pain. Dammit! Is this related to whatever the Elder's were warning me of? Curses.
But... she normalized somewhat. God, her sister could even cry now..... No, that wasn't important now. Was she really ok? Whatever memory or memories that were bothering her so were obviously potent, now settling more against the wall. Uneasily, she slipped into her meditation, closing her eyes, some part of her subconscious still aware.

It was such and odd thing to think of. Now that Ranka knew how he felt, how would their relationship continue on? She had seemed to confess liking him as well, but with so much still to learn about emotions, it was going to be at least a little strange. He would be explaining these emotions to her rather than acting on them. In time, that would surely change, once she had a better grasp on what she was feeling.
When he had mentioned love, he hadn't expected such a reaction. As her hand slid from his face, his smile faded. Had he said something he shouldn't have? He almost seemed frozen at the word, any trace of emotion seeming to vanish. Or to put it more accurately, any good emotion. Ranka's face suggested that perhaps she was fearful, or in some sort of pain. Had one word cause such a reaction from her? When she finally started moving again, Seiji's face was wrought with concern. Maybe he should have avoided the word after all.
Despite trying to avoid talking of what had just happened, Seiji wasn't any less worried. She had said something of memories before. Maybe it was her own memories of the past? He didn't have a clue as to what they were about, but if the twins were embodiment of Life and Death, than surely they could live or be reborn as many times as possible. Had there been some tragic event in her past? He wouldn't push the topic, it was clear doing so might cause her more pain.
"Yes..." Seiji started uneasily. "Like can develop into....love." He was cautious with the word now, but when she seemed alright, he let his hands drift to clasp hers. If he would have known just the mention of the word would have tirggered this he wouldn't have said it. It was too late to take back what he had already done. Better to try and move forward. "Are you sure you're alright Ranka?" He asked, just wanting to be sure.

Curses, she had worried him greatly. She could understand why though. At his caution, she felt her thumb stroke his hand softly, the motion unconscious. She nodded slowly, alright so it could develop further. Her hands continued to tremble in the slightest within his, but to feel the warmth that surrounded them, it allowed her to relax a bit more. She was fine, she was with the two people she cared about most. Hell, the two she cared about in any way at all.
Raising her eyes to meet his, she felt a small smile on her lips, squeezing his hands gently. "I'm... alright. Just shaken is all. At this point it is safe for me to assume it was a previous life. Generally we are not supposed to remember our lives before the current one we have." She answered him, this also explained her concern as to why we she was seeing such memories. They must be relevant in some way to something. Well... considering ho she had felt fear more for him, it was safe to assume that it must be related to her new relationship with Seiji. But how? "Please do not worry, we had no idea I would react in such a way. It is an irregularity in itself. So, do not blame yourself." She knew that would only do so much, but she still hoped it would do more.

Of course he was going to be worried. It was all he could do not to be. He knew she hadn't meant to worry him. Even now she was trying to assure him she was fine. She was taking on more and more traits. Learning faster than he had thought she would. That aside, just the mention of the word had stirred such a reaction. He had to wonder what kind of memories she has associated with the word.
His eyes searched hers, feeling every squeeze and press. Seeing her smile Seiji did feel some relief, but he was still worried. He'd let the matter go, after all, Ranka had said she was fine. When she explained what had happened, the thought crossed Seiji's mind. A past life for her, if that's where the memory had come from, had she been full of emotion in a past life? It could be possible, recreate her with more monotone and less emotion. Nodding silently, Seiji let the topic pass, his mind concentrating on Ranka's touch. "If you're sure." He replied. "So then...what next? We're still trapped here for the time being....is there anything else on your mind, any questions you have?"

To have him gazing into her eyes so, it made Ranka blush faintly, yet she held it steady since it wasn't like she minded. It provided her with a pleasant distraction from the dark memory that was haunting her. "I am quite sure." She murmured, glancing briefly to her sister as she straightened up, her hands continuing to hold his. Her legs were getting tired was all. Lowering her eyes, she thought over the things she was feeling at that point in time. Happiness, and.... a tingling? It was pleasant though so she concluded it was a branch off from happiness or something of the sort.
Her expression became neutral, taking a deep breath as she glanced about the room. "I don't know. At the moment I don't have any questions. The only thing on my mind are the bits of memories that keep popping up. But other than that, I am still processing our change in relationship. Implications thereof, concerns, etc." She answered, not immediately sharing specifics since, as she said, she was still processing. "Do... do you have any questions for me? About anything?" She asked slowly, a little unsure as to why she offered such a thing, but it still felt somewhat right to. After all, while they had plenty of time to talk earlier, they still only met the day before. And well... it felt sort of fair. She had asked many questions of him, some not too easy she suspected. Only right to extend the offer in return.

Moving on from the incident, it became quiet for a few moments. Seiji didn't mind though. Just the silence between them and the eye contact seemed as good as any conversation. It wasn't like they were going to rush forward and make any declarations or push a relationship forward. After all, Ranka would have to learn, or maybe relearn everything about emotions. Either way, just because they both confessed to liking each other didn't mean things had to change right away.
"Changes...don't have to be immediate. Simply spending time with each other is what most would do. Staying in touch, learning more about each other. That sort of thing." It sounded normal enough to him. As Ranka spoke again, he hadn't expected her to offer him a chance to ask questions. Now that Seiji thought about it, he might have a question or two. Why not ask, the worst that could happen was Ranka not knowing or understanding. He could give it a shot. "Well, I guess I might. Even if you can't answer, that's okay too. I was sort of wondering. If you still have emotions, but are just learning about some of them now. How did you go about before? Did you ignore your emotions, or just not understand any of them?"

Ranka blinked and tilted her head, what he said adding another thing to consider. She was quiet for a moment, nodding once, "I see." She said softly, her brows furrowing as she listened to his question. The way it was phrased could have lead to confusion, but she knew what he was asking.
"Well, at the time I may not have even been aware they were emotions. I would have noted there was an irregularity with my functioning, but then would have left it alone. I suppose it was a mix of both a lack of understanding and ignoring the ones I identified as something that held the potential to be an emotion." Glancing down to Sheryl's meditating form, she closed her eyes for a moment, shaking her head. "It didn't help that Sheryl was often off learning on her own. She understood things much faster. Or rather, she recognized the emotions faster. It is... more natural for her." She finished, raising her eyes back to him.

That seemed obvious enough. If she didn't understand certain emotions then why pay any attention to them? It was often easier to just push something aside and ignore it. Trying to learn something on your own might also make it more difficult. "Right. Well, like I said. I'm more than happy to help you learn and understand." He added, smiling once more.
As she had mentioned before, in death, she didn't deal with a whole lot of emotion. Sheryl on the other hand would deal with it a great deal more. With that in mind, it was easy to see why Sheryl had an easier time of understanding, and applying her knowledge of emotions. She had certainly seemed eager enough to tease him earlier. Would Ranka be the same way? Once she understood more about emotions and had more practise with them, what would she be like?
It would definitely be interesting to see what kind of traits Ranka would have when she developed more emotionally. Somehow, Seiji got the vibe that she might be more reserved and quiet. Sort of like she already was. He'd simply have to wait and find out. "Well, anyone who has emotions will learn about them sooner or later. It will feel natural for you too one day. It's only a matter of time."

Now that she thought about it a bit more, it was also just a logical conclusion. Rather than dwell on a question that couldn't be answered at the time, just move on instead. And well... initially she hadn't even been sure she could actually feel emotions. His smile caused her to smile as well, feeling as if there were a warm glow in her chest. Like a candle perhaps. "Now that I have a teacher, I don't have to worry about such times. Or rather, instead of ignoring them, I'll just remember what it was and ask you when possible."
She nodded, pausing to think that over. "Preferably sooner than later I would assume." She mused mostly to herself, shaking her head a bit. It was not a good idea to dwell upon her short comings. It served no purpose. Though.... she did get a thought that caused the smile to fade from her features, the usual impassivity returning. She was an Old One, she did not age, and she did not die unless taken out of commission to allow for a new reincarnation. Would she have to help his soul move on with Sheryl some day in the future? It was certainly a sobering thought, feeling a tightening in her chest. Do not think of such things. Being realistic about things all the time was not necessarily a good thing.
She distracted herself by returning her gaze to him. "Is there anything else you would like to know?" She asked him softly, tilting her head in the slightest.

Seiji had to admit, he definitely didn't expect to meet someone like this. He'd spent all of his life alone. Sure there had been girls in his past he had liked. But this was much different. Always moving to a new area meant he never really thought about actually being with someone. Settling in at this academy had definitely changed a few things for him. Having a somewhat permanent home was the first of these things. Among others things, he never thought he might find someone who he would have feelings for, and that she might return them. It was a sensation Seiji had never felt before, a sensation he definitely liked.
"Of course. I'll be here to help you with anything and everything I can. Whether it be emotion related or not. That's...sort of how most relationships develop." He was glad to be there for her. It seemed she enjoyed having someone as much as he did. Even if it was such an early stage for the two of them. As her smile faded away, his own left. What could she be thinking about now? Was it the memories again? He wouldn't bother with it. He wanted to try and keep her in good spirits.
"Well, there is a few things really. But some of them will have to wait. Now isn't really the time or place. It would also help if you had a better grasp of emotions, so maybe in time." Seiji smiled once more, trying to keep the atmosphere between them a good one. "There is probably something though. Oh," he started again, another thought crossing his mind. "I know it's new for you, but I was wondering. Did you ever think about things of this nature...attraction and finding some to like?"

Ranka felt herself blush a little, anything and everything huh? Certain things she hoped he would never have to be exposed to that related to the duties she held, even if she needed some sort of aid. She would have to rely more on Sheryl for that. "By helping the one you care for? Yes, that would cause... er... Sorry, you know how I tend to be more like a robot. Processing information and stating it in such a way." She blushed and lowered her eyes, but it didn't end up lasting long.
Her brows furrowed, they'd have to wait? It made her wonder why and what it was he wanted to know, but she merely nodded once. "Alright." She said softly, falling quiet to listen what he could ask her. Buuuut.... her immediate reaction was the color in her cheeks darkening, her eyes again lowering, her head tilting downward. She didn't immediately answer since... well she wasn't sure if it was an answer he would like or want to hear. "No. Not really. Out of everything related to emotions that I was taught or were explained to me via stories, attractions and such relations between people confused me. So many illogical decisions that didn't make sense and thus motives were lost to me. I didn't understand. And once I understood more, even in the slightest..." She glanced to her sister who almost appeared she was sleeping. "I always thought Sheryl would be the one to run off with someone first. Man, or woman. Not me. I always thought I would remain alone to tend to the spirits of the departed. And those whose time it was to depart." Her voice had grown quiet at the end, her crimson gaze not remaining upon the floor.
Yes... what use would the "grim reaper" have for love? Any living thing she would grow to know would end up passing before her, and she would have to process their death. But now she did. The reason she had found was this warmth. She did not have to feel cold always, she could be allowed to step into such light.

It was a bit odd, he would admit that. However, Seiji didn't mind that Ranka spoke the way she did, or stated things. It was almost cute in a way. He'd never met anyone before who would do something like that, so it was a first for him. It gave her a certain charm. Something he'd grown to like. "It's not a problem. Whatever helps you learn and understand." He still couldn't get over the fact that they had met just the day before. In that time she was learning more about emotions, showing emotions herself, and even doing things like blushing, crying and now laughing. He wouldn't be surprised if she understood even more within the next week.
Seeing her response to his words, Seiji had to smirk. It'd been something more personal, more human than she would understand. Just listening to her talk of illogical decisions and the like proved that. He was positive she would come to learn what he meant but that. Something as simple as a hug or a kiss on the cheek she might understand the action of, but the motive to why doing such an action would probably still escape her.
"Well, I was always told to have hope. Hoping is one of the best ways a person can live. You never know what you'll find. After all, we could have just as easily never met." He'd been seriously debating coming to the academy for some time. Did he want to go to such a place, or would he rather continue on going from place to place? In the end, it was clear what his choice had been. But just one simple decision and he would have never come to Estelle and he would have never met either Sheryl or Ranka. "A little bit of hope and luck never hurt anyone." He added, his hand raising again, finger tips brushing her cheek gently.

It did relieve her to know that how she spoke wasn't a problem or anything. Even some of the Elder's had found it strange. More often than not she was teased by spirits to be a "walking encyclopedia." Now she understood why she felt a brief touch of discomfort. She had not liked being called that.
Even as she listened to him, she didn't initially raise her eyes, her thoughts drifting back to what her job would entail. Hope? Could she dare to hope? Now that was more food for thought... It wasn't until she felt the trails of warmth on her cheek that she raised her eyes, finding herself lowering her gaze as she turned her head into his hand the slightest bit more. She felt... better when he had done that. "The only reason we had been out and about yesterday night was because we had to help a bunch of spirits move on. And I had to... well, to bring some souls into the realm of death. The only reason we had done it then was because I told Sheryl it was better to take care of our duties sooner than later. She almost said no." She told him quietly, her thumb stroking the back of his gently. "I am very happy we met. Otherwise I would still be an emotionless robot." She raised her gaze again, holding it steady with his own.
"I am... I suppose.." She paused, thinking of the right words. "I am just... afraid to hope." She admitted, her voice practically a whisper. She had never hoped for anything before.

Seiji himself had known what it was like, simply doing what he must. He was sure it was the same for her. Or had been up until now. When he had first left his teachers, Seiji had found life on his own difficult. Resorting to measures that he was less than proud of, it was all he could do to survive. In some areas, he had almost become a problem rather than someone helping to find a solution. In those days, he didn't much care for what others thought, or really what he thought was right and wrong. He'd only been trying to keep on living.
The past aside, now they had each other. Seiji would be there for Ranka, in as many ways as he could be. Not only would he teach her, but he was certain their bond would also grow stronger. "Well, it might have been an odd way to meet. But we've still met, and I'm very happy that we did too. Sometimes just a chance encounter can be equally as mezmerising as a fairytale scenario." He felt his lips pull up in a small smile. He couldn't help but smile when around her. Not that smiling was really a bad thing anyway. "There's nothing wrong with hoping. I'm sure as you learn more, you'll understand what I mean."
