As Ratchet started the course for a third time, she thought about how to maximize her chances of success. She'd gotten lucky last time, but this needed better planning. This time, she had a plan to make the cliff climb easier as soon as she was done with the wires. Removing her soiled gloves, she put them in her back pocket, about the one area of her that wasn't going to get too muddy. Inside her pockets, the gloves would be safe and dry. Kneeling down, she flopped to her belly and began the wire crawl. She ignored the mud and just kept pushing through, the end of the wires in sight. Eventually, she made it over without getting hit by anything.

Staring at the wire crawl, Ariel groaned and dove into the dirt again. One step--er, scoot? crawl-bit?--at a time, she made her way under the wire. Please, no projectiles this time...what the ******** was that a ping pong ball? They weren't holding back anything! With a yelp, Ariel hurriedly finished the wire crawl and got ready for the next stage.

Ratchet wiped her muddy paws on the ground at the bottom of the cliff and donned her dry gloves before tackling the cliff a third time. She wondered really how safe it was to embed land mines in this cliff. While they seemed nonlethal, they also seemed like a horrible idea. Shaking her head, she looked out at the lake as she climbed. It was pretty, really, sparkling in the sun like that. And then a shark fin broke her line of vision and she was reminded of the danger of the place. Ratchet paid attention to her climbing again, not breaking concentration until she reached the top.

Beaver to the right of it, seagull to the left of it, sweet goal in front of it.
Squawk'd and slap'd.
Shot at with gull and bill.
Quickly it ran, with skill.
Into the jaws of Chef.
Into the mouth of Ill.
Ran Lex.

Ratchet ran and grabbed for the rope, the feeling of it smacking her paws quite rewarding. Why didn't she use the rope swing more at home? This really was fun. Whooping, Ratchet swung across the alligators, avoiding the other campers who were doing the course at the same time.

Heights. Again. Damnit...the lengths she'd go to for a victory. Assuming the Sharks pulled their heads out of their asses...the Beavers seemed nearly unstoppable at this point. Each paw reaching for a hold and testing it before she moved further, Ariel scurried up the cliff. Next up...that goddamn log with its goddamn seagulls.

Ratchet took two steps out onto the log before she tripped over a territorial beaver and went over the side. Oh, well. At least the ball pit was fun. Ratchet floundered in the balls a while before clawing her way back out to the start of the obstacle.

This time, Ratchet looked out for beavers as well as seagulls. Nothing hit her, and she didn't hit anything, so she got over the log just fine. She removed her gloves again and put them in her back pocket; they'd helped her up the cliff, and she'd use the strategy again. She still had two more tries left!

((Finished three times, two mistakes, I think.))

User Image Once more watching the course-running of her friends, Annabel caught sight of Ratchet making another attempt, grinning. Waving enthusiastically to her friend for a moment, the girl cupped her hands about her mouth, calling out to the mechanic.

"HAUL SOME a** THERE, RATCH! COME ON! IF YOU CAN GET ON OUR CABIN ROOF, YOU CAN BEAT THIS THING!" A pause, then. "FINISH IT AND I'LL SHOW YOU THE PUPPET I FOUND LAST NIGHT!"

A bit messed up, yes, but Ratchet had seemed entertained at the sight of the Simon puppet. An Annabel one? God, that'd probably make Ratchet's day! Snickering a bit at the thought, Annabel returned to a more casual stance, watching the rest of the Audio running the course. Alright- maybe she could've been doing something a bit more productive with her day. Looking for Steggy, or something like that.

...But come ON. It was so much better watching other campers get pelted with Gulls. Definitely made her feel better about herself.

Oh, right...there was a gator pit to cross before the log. Lucky her. Grabbing ahold of the first rope, she almost enjoyed the crossing this time. It was kind of like flying, in a slip-and-you're-eaten kind of way. Once she was done, she began bracing herself for what was next.

Lex still wasn't gonna crawl. It tromped through the mud and bore the brunt of snowballs and the like. In hind sight, perhaps it was best that it was August... You warmed up much quicker.
Did it really have to do this four more times?

The log crossing didn't go nearly so well as the last few obstacles. Focusing on putting one foot in front of the other, Ariel never saw the seagull coming. As it smacked into her face, she flailed wildly, falling into the pile of balls. At least the balls were fun...

Secretly, Lex kinda enjoyed this bit. I mean, climbing equipment would have been ideal, but at this camp? Not likely. It almost wished there was a timer, so it could see how fast it was going. With a face much more unhappy than it actually felt, Lex climbed.

Gators, however.... Lex did not like these gators. This time it clung to the rope at a higher point. Skidding to a halt on the grass covering the other shore, Lex whooped. Hey look- no lost clothing this round!

Lex was doing fine up to the last few feet of the log. Then, the log snapped. Frankly attempting to swim in the ball pit, Lex managed to howl "Nooooooo~~~!" before the beavers over took it....
So close... so tragically close....
