gonk doctors are morons! so i went to my prenatal visit on the 13th. what a waste of time. The morons forgot to schedule my us and refused to even try and hear the heartbeat with a doppler cause "she didnt have time" then proceeds to yell at me because in 4 weeks i managed to loose 6lbs but my belly looks like im 5 months pregnant Dx she was like"pregnant women should gain weight not keep loosing it " i have headaches and morning sickness ..i eat what i can when i can stressed so they finally scheduled my u/s for the 24th. Thank god for small favors whee and i sat there for 2 hrs for them to wiegh me do my BP and yell at me about my weight and send me off with a "we'll be checking you again in 2 or 3 weeks instead of 4 or 5".... i was like um sure o.O.... so i have to go back feb 3rd but i think once i get the us and know the baby is ok (i have been having alot of pain and cramping in my pelvis and back which they are trying to tell me is 100% normal) i am soooo changing doctors. On the plus side it puts me at ease whenever the baby flutters about whee oh and the nurse was teasing me cause i told her i eat alot and was worried i had gained 10lbs she says hey maybe its twins ..those are common symptoms(increased belly size, loosing weight, increased pelvic pressure, even head and backache) and Tim seriously looked like he was gonna faint and puke xDDD so he REALLY wants that us now rofl how is everyone else?

"Pregnant women should gain weight not lose it"

Complete bull crap.

Even women who are at a moderate weight (not women who are underweight) can lose weight during pregnancy especially into the second trimester.

Because hey, most of us don't eat very well. Then we start eating better so WE don't gain any weight, and the baby starts using what we already have in our bodies.

And if you are overweight you may lose weight your entire pregnancy. I gained and lost weight all throughout my pregnancy. When I went in for my appointment a day before my labor started I was four lbs less than my pre-pregnancy weight.

Isabella still came out healthy and at 7lb. 12oz.

I think some doctors rely too much on "gaining weight" as an indicator of fetal health. I mean god forbid you gain 40 or 50 lbs during pregnancy either, then they'd flip out on you for THAT.

Yeah and with being pregnant you tend to eat more often but smaller meals which will just kick a metabolism into full swing anyway.

Don't feel bad. I'm over 22 weeks now and just made it to 3 pounds above my start weight and it seems to be holding. -knocks on wood- Of course the last time I did that, a few days before I went to my check up I lost 2 again so I've been hoping I can at least maintain what I was before. I've been going in cycles. Gain 3 pounds, lose 2-4. Stay there for two or three weeks and then shoot up a fast 3 pounds...and it just keeps going.

About two months ago thanks to my increased metabolism and a bout of food poisoning [ gonk ] I was 10 pounds under my start with all these people getting worried about me. "Oh baby, why are you losing weight?" Chris has been tempted to be a bit mean and tell them I'm dieting although he knows it's not the case; he just thinks it's hilarious that the one time I can eat and eat and eat, I just can't keep the weight on. As if I don't feel guilty enough about it. ;[

I'm glad to see you're already doing what I was going to suggest: getting a new doctor. Seriously, you're going to have to see her for 9 months of your life, why see one that makes you feel bad for something you can't help and obviously isn't dedicated to what she's doing and would rather scold you like a child? I've been finding out that it's really common for women to lose weight even if they can keep food down and have perfectly good sized healthy babies. They put too much emphasis on the weight gain rather then always checking for other signs the baby is doing fine and growing as they should. And depending on who you ask, they don't agree either. At my first appointment, the nurse said even at my weight I should aim for 15-25 pounds whereas the nutritionist I had to see was like, "try to stay closer to 15." 15 was my target anyway and at this point, I don't see it happening. lol If I ever hit 10 over I'll die of shock.

Yeah, gain too much and they harp too. Sheesh. You just can't win sometimes.

Yeah in my first pregnancy I lost 25 lbs and the doctors were freaking out. The nutritionist however was like "Baby's fine? Okay GOOD FOR YOU!"

Ugh they focus way too much on weight sometimes. I was underweight when I was pregnant the first time and the civilian doctors were just PUSHING me to gain so much weight. When you can hardly keep food down, you really dont want to eat more as it is. It's damned if you do, damned if you don't. They seem to forget it's nothing to do with a number and everything to do with how the baby is doing!

Ugh, my crazy husband WANTS twins. I'm still debating about smothering him with a pillow for that comment, lol!

I've been so incredibly nauseous the past two days, it's really taking its toll on me. I'm not throwing up, but gagging to the point my stomach muscles are worn out isn't a great feeling. I'm just hoping it gets better.

Heh thanks, I'm hoping it eases soon.

Oh can I ever sympathise with the nausea....I'm roughly 32 weeks along & still having to take phenargan for the nausea... sweatdrop
My stomach feels like it's going to explode at any given moment, I can barely eat anything at all, to the point that my hubby & our roommate are both trying to entice me with foods they know I normally love, but I can't even look at food. sad

Anybody have any suggestions for sleeping more comfortably? the pillow thing has never worked for me, and I toss & turn all night. sad

You have Hyperemesis or borderline hyperemesis, Zan?

I'm not far enough along to suggest on the sleep thing though I am starting to find sleeping a lot more uncomfortable and pillows don't seem to help me either.

Yikes, sorry to hear you're having such bad problems with sickness! But we are glad to see more faces here in the pregnancy thread!

As for comfortable, I have always had problems getting comfy. I was tempted to by one of those C shaped pregnancy pillows because I know I would love that even afterwards. My problem is I am a stomach sleeper and I can't do that. Occasionally I catch myself in sleep doing that.

Maybe find a firmer surface or a softer one that helps?

I was actually given a synthetic down filled blanket that I sometimes put under my hips & butt, and that seems to help a little, but I've had tons of trouble with my right hip ever since my first pregnancy.

I'm not sure what Hyperemesis or borderline hyperemesis is, Pirate, Let me look that up & see. smile

edit: Just looked it up, and I'd say that's a big maybe, though my doc hasn't said so....I actually found out I was pregnant last July when I went to the ER for severe dehydration/heat exhaustion. eek
I've had troubles staying hydrated throughout this pregnancy.

Nopenname had borderline hyperemesis this time around, so you're not alone in that horrid sick-all-9-months feeling. 3nodding

If you dig back through some of the pages you may find some of her posts about it.

About sleeping on your stomach, if you get a body pillow you can sorta prop up one half of your body and still manage to sleep on your stomach. It takes some arranging but I slept largely on my stomach during my pregnancy because of my SPD and sleeping on my side locked up my hip bones and sleeping on your back can cause problems with blood flow.

First, I gotta say, Nopen, I love your sig. heart

And I have a question for you guys. Does anyone know if it is possible that because of my first baby being so large, my hips never fully went back to normal? I've asked both OB/GYN's that I've had since then, but the last one was a moron (see my post about deliveries) and this one wants to wait & do an x-ray before he says anything.

All I know is when I describe the pain to people who know about that kind of thing, I get told it could be arthritis. neutral
