I would cosplay as.... um.... lemme think......... the black knight from Fire Emblem Path of Radiance or Vivi from Final Fantasy IX (because we all know Vivi > all other black mages)

Good lord are we still talking about cosplaying? If so then I'd cosplay Iron man, my favorite and the best super hero of all time who's movie I've already seen three times.

Oh how fun! Did you go each time with a big group of friends? Or a small group or by yourself?

Three different groups of friends. I created a cosplay via the dream avatar deal but it looks terrible and costs a lot

Cosplay can also extend to the real world, in which the definition is you, yourself, are dressing up as someone.

Well, much like karaoke or parikyura, cosplay is a shortened form of two words to make it "easier" for the Japanese to say the word.
For karaoke it is "kara" which in Japanese means "empty" and "oke" which is a shortening of orchestra.
For parikyura it's the shortening of both English words "picture" and "club". These are the small sticker photos you see sometimes.
For Cosplay it is simply the shortening of "costume" and "play". Which can be a broad range of... well... anything from Batman to a piece of toast. xd
