Well, Wednesday am; a little late to be talking about my weekend. I just want to send a group hug to all of you --so much happening with you all!
Taylorsue, your answer to the new password question was right on- good answer! And Orna, I LOVED yours!

What I did this weekend: I started reading my first manga about 2 weeks ago --Fruits Basket- but I this weekend, I went on a marathon and finished it! All 136 chapters, I'd guess about 20 or 25 books when it's finally published! (It's not yet publicly available in the US)

A month or so ago, I'd rented the four Fruits Basket DVDs, since I kept running across people recommending them and I fell in love with the characters and the music. Lightkin and I watched the DVDs together (check out her profile for a several GREAT videos, including a tribute to the Fallen of Deathly Hallows that'll make you weep)
Then as I surfed, looking for the right Fruits basket picture to add to my profile, folks kept saying the Fruits Basket manga went into more detail and the DVDs covered only up to book 8, with about 17 books in print, and maybe 5 more to come as they were translated into English.

So a week ago I went to Barnes and Noble and learned how to read manga. I discovered manga is NOT read left to right like English and it's harder to read than right to left Hebrew, which is in straight columns (and I can't read anyway). I would get mixed up occasionally and read out of order, but I read the only 3 B&N had that were later in the story than the DVDs and got hooked! I intend to purchase the entire set eventually, but there's no wiggle room in my budget, and at about $10 a book, I will have to collect them slowly!

Looking online for info became like a scavenger hunt but I lucked into the ENTIRE manga online, AND translated into English, even though it's not yet officially released in America yet. (It's here, if you're curious. I suggest you rent and watch the 4 DVDs first, though).

I read the online manga Fruits Basket in between work and in between renting a new office to work at part time). I read it while I ate, and into the wee hours of the night. And ALL Monday, Columbus day, as I didn't have to work. Bodhi cat had to walk across my keyboard to remind me to feed him. But the story! Oh my! It truly, truly moved me with plot twists and deeper and deeper insight into the cruelties and triumphs and love that can happen. I laughed, and I cried, and I gasped and was awed. It was way, way cathartic. Wow! Highly, highly recommend!

Then yesterday I confirmed our 5th judge for the Halloween contest and posted the info in our new Events subforum. So now you're caught up! Let's go Ravenclaw! Hufflepuff is about to leave all the houses in the dust unless we get posting in the Puzzle thread and win some of the contests. Go Ravenclaw!

And thank you to whichever wonderful and anonymous benefactor gifted me with FOX ears!!

Tonight I lend OOP (the book) to a friend who is working on his PhD in psychology. He'd never read any of the HPs -heh, until last month when he said he was going solitary camping in Baja and looking for something to read to his "inner child." I gave him Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban. He came running back and asked for Book four. He'd also gone and watched the first three movies, refusing to watch Goblet of Fire until he's read the book. Wish I had a good picture of Mike--he looks exactly like Hayden Christensen and I keep feeling like I'm talking to Darth Vader. You all would like him!

Oh, and THIS Thursday (like tomorrow), the celebrity "Are you smarter than a Fifth grader" that I watched being taped with Clay Aiken will be shown! So you may catch a glimpse of me in the audience. But uh, oh, I don't remember what I wore....pathetic, and so sorry! I can't give you a clue. I'm in the first row balcony, though, just above the kids and able to peek at their answers - best seat in the house!

So now you're caught up with me....and I have to go get caught up on dishes and housework...

Follow up to any "5th grader fans" or Clay Aiken fans among us.
I got this e-mail yesterday:

Clay's "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader" Episode
Moved to November Sweeps

Sent: Sunday, October 07, 2007 5:01 PM
To: Ask Fox
Subject: are you smarter than a 5th grader

I heard that Clay Aiken has taped one of these shows.
Can you tell me or how do I find out when it will be on?
Thanks

AskFox's Reply:

In a special 2-Hour ALL-NEW episode airing on THU 11/1/07 (8-10pm ET/PT) - if no baseball

So 2 HR I think means Kelly Pickler's episode will be shown-she was hysterically and at times painfully funny!i

Well my best friend got back from Disney today but I won't see her till Monday because she will hang out with her other friends which is fine by me. So my weekend is to be filled with homework, baseball games and church. So it will be okay I guess. How about everyone else?

And Orna, I LOVED yours!

Thanks! I'm glad it wasn't a total babble-fest then!

Thank you! I have the anime (and love it) but have never purchased the manga - I had no idea it went so much further beyond the anime. I will most definitely be reading this in the week or so to come!

Thanks, Para, for the validation for "Fifth Grader"

And, far from a babble-fest, Orna! Also, it's nice to find another Fruits Basket fan! I think all of you would enjoy my friend Lightkin'sprofile.
She's an HP fanatic but I can't get her to join the Guild (too many other commitments, she says). Anyway, she has some great videos on her site, including a Fruits Basket one done to "Everytime we Touch"!

I like fruits basket, its not my favorite anime/manga series, but my friend is in love w/ kyo. Not as much as before since she got the whole manga series in japan and can read it. I can read it but I have no idea what they are saying...ehh I need to study my vocabulary. Anyways, if anybody is interested in some good manga series, one I would recommend is vampire knight and a good anime series is Blood plus, funnilly enough they are all vampire included. So what is everyone going to be for halloween? I am going to be Saya in Blood plus. But since my hair is long, and she has short hair, I will be the long-old fashioned saya. Here I will put a picture up. Thankfully, today is my appointment w/ my eye doctor and I'm going to get new contacts..I'll get the red contacts then.

The one of the left...thats the one I will be..all I need to find is a japanese katakana. Any idea where I can get one?

Hey everyone - I'm back! Sorry for not being around the past week, I was in FL with my family.

I do enjoy Fruits Basket, I really loved the concept and how the anime played out. Although I enjoy Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena) more - it's an odd anime but it really makes you think and theorize.

Welcome back orna! How was florida? Did you do anything fun? That anime is interesting...what is it about?
PostPosted: Fri Oct 19, 2007 10:29 am

Florida was a lot of fun - I thoroughly enjoyed my time there!

Utena is definitely an odd and interesting series, and very hard to describe. Essentially, the series follows Utena Tenjou and her relationships throughout the series. She becomes involved in a secret dueling club that fights for the right to have the Rose Bride (Anthy Himemiya) who gives the power for revolution.

Here is the wiki page, and here is a great page that does analysis of the plot and the characters.

Congratulations Candy! Wooo!

So, I've entered ALL of the halloween events - we Ravenclaws need some house points! Hopefully I'll win something and get us some points!

Btw, I love the BOO idea - random gift giving is so much fun and I love that it's anonymous!

How would you measure a person's worth?

In my opinion, no one has the right to even as much as think that they can measure another person's worth. You don't even have the right to measure your own value, so why should someone have the right to measure others?

It's exactly because people think that he, or she has a lesser worth then themselves, that there has been so much discrimination, racism, slavery, homophobia, sexism, and harassment throughout history, which can even be found in the present times.

Of course, that doesn't change the fact that everyone gets a first impression on a person they've just met. This is mostly based on the person's look. What clothes they were, if they're overweight, underweight, make-up, etc...

A person's opinion of another aren't solely based on their first impression, however.

When I started at Junior High a little over two years ago, I had a good first impression on some of the girls in that class. Now, I know that I was sadly mistaken.

But that's not to say they're bad people. Or have a lesser worth then myself and my friends. That's just my view of them after all. And if you ask their friends, you'll probably hear lots of positive things about them, If not for the few quirks about that person that they dislike.

And no one can honestly say that you have a friend that's never done something that you didn't like, or that they don't have habits that you find less attractive than their more positive attributes.

Another thing is, you don't know the people you meet completely. Think of the human personality as a gigantic puzzle. However, it's an uneven puzzle. Some of the pieces are much bigger then others, and some are extremely small. This is the pieces that makes up ones personality.

The bigger pieces are the personality's major qualities. And the smaller are the little habits and quirks, such as biting their lip when their nervous, biting nails when they're bored, etc..etc..

Now, imagine that you've puzzled a lot of the gigantic puzzle. However, some pieces are missing: A few medium sized ones, a lot of small ones and perhaps even a big one! The puzzled pieces are the part of the personality of your friend that you know.

But wait! Some of the pieces are wrong! They don't even belong to this puzzle!

Those pieces are your friend's white lies, their deceit, their mask, what they show to the public that's completely false. And perhaps some of those pieces are just what you thought should be there.

In other words, some of the things that you know about a person is false. It's not real. Other things you don't even know, since they've never told you that.

This is another reason why you shouldn't measure someones worth in such a way. After all, you don't even completely know the person your measuring!

I guess if you have to measure someones worth, it's only in human nature to measure your friends and your own worth higher than those you don't like, feel neutral about, or the people you don't know.

I apologize if I ranted a little too much. Guess I like to rant sometimes.

Where Are Your Greatest Strenghts?

Mmh.. I'm a good listener, I guess. I tend to think things through before I act. Of course, that's not to say I haven't done a few rash decisions and actions in my life..

I learn things easily, and I have a good memory if I wish to.
