Beat him with his own arm. Oh she had to stifle a chuckle at that...that sounded like something she would personally say. See, she was picking things up. Though runes made her senses spike for a moment before they were gone. No need to look at him, the position she held herself in gave her a slight ominous look so it worked.
"Alteration magics are energies that pretain to the ability to change, or manipulate the physical world around one's self. And no deal. You give me double or you don't get your shiny crystal back. I'm not stupid, a pirate always carries his sword's weight in money if not more. Maybe if you didn't try what you did earlier, I wouldn't be digging so deeply into your pockets." She knew Shyrae would back her up with those runes if need be.
She blinked at him at his little tidbit of information. "You got a day off? How did you manage that, you're never off." Or so it seemed. But she shook her head. "I'm not privy to the daily shifts, just the ones the recent search parties. Apprentices don't get to see such important things, seeing as their Masters always have them in hand in quite covetous manner. You're really off?" Made her smile...sure, there was the potiential of him having to be on instant duty should something go wrong, but at the same time, this was a rare opportunity that must be taken. "Spend the day with me? I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be allowed in the planning room today, already past time for things to start and if I'm not there when he closes the door, I'm out of luck. Which means I have nothing to do. I suppose I'll get that rank promotion one day." Till then, she was stuck as apprentice.

"It only seems that way because I patrol when I'm off. But yes, I am." Casual patrolling of the city, it was his default activity of the day. One could never be too careful these days, what with the Orb gone and natural discrepancies happening on a regular basis. Nodding at her question though, he took another bite of ham but looked at her with a slight frown. "There was a planning session today? Why did you not go? It isn't wise to pass up an opportunity to learn, it may be the one thing keeping you from the promotion." His father or himself had the final say in regards to promotions within the Guard, but Jae's direct preceptor had to give the word of recommendation first.

A small smirk, handing the shard over for the time being.
"and what praytell are alteration magics. you know for those of us that don't dabble in magic. though as to your gold. I'll grant you one and a half your former purse. that's still a considerable jump in your income seeing as you had virtually none after I relieved you of it for the damage you caused. Not to mention that I'm in a bit of a hurry, and that's as much as I have on my person at the present time."
lying but hey, she didn't know that. probably had triple what he'd taken from her, if you count the gambling and the impulsive pickpocketing on the way.
"Not to mention I'd prefer certain city officals and thier child-like guest didn't get thier paws on that."
looking at the other elf in the room.
"I know more than you think about dirty tricks and killing. I don't even have to move to kill you...but like I said, I'm not here for killing."
then a small smirk.
"Alright, double your money. we have an accord."

Shyrae's eyes narrowed immediately and she shook her head. Cocky son of a b***h. "You think? Try this on for size, pirate." Lifting her hand she scribed a simple rune and enclosed Hunter in an invisible bubble. One that had no air in it whatsoever. There was no way for him to block it or get out of it since she did it too fast and held it, glaring at him. "Neither do I. I hold your life in my hands right now, then we could take all your money and your pretty glass."
Eilynne sensed both the presence of the shard and the use of magic and was up like a flash, moving through the house and into the bedroom. "I see you still think you know more than I do, human." A glance at the elf and she waved her hand, removing the bubble from the pirate and looking at Shyrae. "Patience young elf. Keeping calm under pressure is a valuable skill. You will have much time to learn it but far less to use it if you do not learn now."
Her lips lifted slightly at Hunter, "You seek to cut a deal behind my back because you don't want me to have your proclaimed pretty glass. Thievery and backstabbing is your way of life but with it you only harm yourself. I have known about that pretty glass for a long time. You have achieved nothing."
A glance over to Savryn. "Feel free to test it and attempt to do whatever you wish with your magic. I should like to know of the results though and I too am willing to pay for your services."

"Well then, I've learned something new today. You need a hobby Kaz." Giving a chuckle at him, she'd always never been afraid to joke with him, despite his disposition. "I was up late last night doing those maps you're going to need. And earlier I had a few run ins while I was out scouting...I guess I was just tired and overslept. But also, he does those things so early anyway and if I'm one second late he won't let me in. My tail could be in the door, and he'd slam the door on it."
He was definately strict and now she was getting lectured. "In all actuality, I've pretty much learned it all, or at least what he has to offer. Don't you think it a little odd your father asked for me and not him? Somedays I think he's keeping me down on purpose. I mean I know I'm not the most reliable...and I'm clumsy...and break things...and now I'm rambling."
Just like her mother, quick to jump. Though Shyrae was definately not her mother...and odd blend of the two, eyes from somewhere in Sevilin's side of the family and well...she was indeteresting in the good way most of the time. "Hey now, the dead things are my business." But it seemed the matter was going to be taken out of thier hands, seeing as the little alm
ost elf like thing from before showed up. What was this thing anyway? "You two have met I see...well, he's going to pay for it. He owes me. But honestly if either of you have anything else and are willing to pay, I'm up for service." Score. A satisfied look to Shyrae and a cocky noise to Hunter. "Savvy?"

the casing didn't seem to bother hunter in the least...he just started to hold his breath...and took his sword, and punctured a hole in the floor, kneeling down and sucking air once....before the little girl came in. giving a glare over to her, before tapping his blade against his shoulder.
"What exactly are these glass shards, and why do you keep thinking that I hurt myself by watching out for myself. You constantly seek to aggravate me with riddles."
and a lifting a finger.
"Of course I'd do it behind your back. last time I came in this city with those you took them from me. I don't like repeat performances of that kind if I can help it."
then back at the hooded elf.
"Savvy."

Shyrae shook her head and waved her hand to get rid of the rune she'd used then turned and left the room. She needed a few moments alone.
Eilynne raised an eyebrow. "You are only aggravated because you understand exactly what I'm saying to you. Choices you make cause you to feel the way you do. And you're blatant disrespect will catch up with you one day." She glacned at the shard for a moment, then gently reached up and removed it from Savvy's hand.
"Rainbow glass that changes in the light, yet does not cut when it's supposedly sharp edges are sliced against skin and other objects. It cannot be broken by normal means and if you attempt to sell it, other than for services, all would laugh in your face. It appears worthless, yet you are willing to pay handsomely for it. Tell me, pirate, what do you think it is? You think you know. Now you tell me."

A thoughtful pause. "Reading does not count?" But back to the more important details she was telling him now. He always knew the Guard's strategist was a bit eccentric and aloof in his ways, but this was certainly news. "That is a bit much... It's his responsibility to educate you so that you may one day take his spot." Finishing up his breakfast, he cleaned the dishes in the sink and then returned to the table. "My father may have asked for you because it was you, and not him, who accompanied the scouting teams out to the desert so many times." A frown though as she trailed off. The master was biased... "I will look into the matter for you. As long as the job gets done, behavioral shortcomings should not matter."

"I don't know what it is. only that it's something of great value to people like you and the dragon-kin that do know what it is. and according to our necromantic friend her it has the power to alter the world around it. which in itself is quite valuable, if you know how to work the thing."
blatant disrespect of what? damn this little girl thing was full of riddles.
"If I had to venture a guess, due to overheard conversations and paid for information, that it's part of whatever item I assume your kind gave them some time ago."
though a glance as the other one walked out on them.
"I don't think we should let her do that. the last thing either of us needs is her telling someone that I'm here. you know, reputations and all that."

And footsteps said Shyrae left. A look in a general direction as the shard was taken from her hand and Savryn returend to the bed, plopping down. Like she was going to walk around with people in the room when she couldn't see. "Good then, get me my money and I'll deliver your information to you." Wel...she wasn't going anywhere. Last thing she needed was them finding out she was mostly blind.
"Okay reading counts, but you need to get out too. I mean not watching out for the city." A shrug. "Apparently if I'm not dilgent to show up on time then I don't deserve the day's words." And yet she still seemed none too upset...Bell had learned to simply go with things after a while. "I suppose." Though then a surprised look and a jump up from her chair, "No Kaz!"...which resulting in her getting caught up in her own tail again and she flung out her wings to keep herself from kissing the floor.
Okay...fall averted, embarassing flailing still occured. A blink at Kaz as she regrouped herself. Walking over to him and standing before his person, she looked up at him. "You don't have to Kaz, really. Please don't worry about it? You're supposed to just be you today, not Commander." Behavioral shortcomings...what a nice way to put it. And personally...it was better to bunk in the little apprentice room with the strategist than be in the guard bunks...if he said something she may loose that little perk.

"So you think but you do not actually know. That knowledge is more important to you than living yet you can do nothing with it. You have no power to alter anything, human. Your search proves to be fruitless just like it would have for the chest you pulled from the sand. The key does not exist yet men have wasted their lives attempting to find it." She walked over and set the shard in Savryn's hand gently. "I wish you luck Lady Elf. Please notify me if you find anything out." Then giving an abrupt nod to Hunter, Eilynne exited the room.

His eyes more or less widened at the outburst and he instinctively reached out across the table to steady her, but to no avail. At least she had learned by now how to watch out for herself. As long as she wasn't hurt, embarrassment was merely a side effect. "Alright... I won't." Giving her one of those skeptical 'are you sure?' looks but nodding. "I am just me, but tomorrow I am Commander again and you will still be you and still have those problems." But he decided he wouldn't say anything about the issue if she didn't want it, let her work at her own pace. So as an attempt to brighten the atmosphere, he offered a smile. "Let's go to the ice caves again." How like Kaz to just take charge like that. It was a bad habit.

"Are all you magic types that damn arrogant?"
flipping a look to the hooded elf.
"I've seen people with no magical talent or power make magic work. they just need a trigger. find out how it works and then it's easy to find a trigger. and what in the sand seas was that comment about blantant disrespect..."
grumbling lightly, before quieting down and leaning on the wall, crossing his arms lightly.
"How long is this testing thing going to take?"

He had always been looking out for her...seemed to be the one thing he didn't take a day off from when she was around. Bell appareciated it though, after all with how clumsy she was and all. She personally thought it had to do with the lack of tail blades and other such dragonic bodily accessories. Who knew maybe she just had no balance. Kaznec sure wasn't budging was he? "I promise you that if things go down hill, then I'll tell you. He's tough, but it's better to be in his good graces and have a place to stay at night that not....well frankly, usually flithy and such."
Wringing her hands a moment in so like her fashion when she was unsettled. Then a blink and c**k of her head as he smiled and then threw out an idea. That drew a smile from her as well and a laugh. "A man who likes a challenge. I like that idea. Lead the way then...let's see if you still know the way." Cleaning up her own dishes then and crossing her arms lightly, giving that challenging look.
Oh look shard back in her hand. A nod to the...whatever it was....she really needed to find that out..."Will do." And her attention shifted to Hunter's general direction. "Arrogant is merely a word you use because you are ignorant. She seems very much like a type of elf my father never took kindly to, but at the same time...there is truth in her words. I would merely take what she says and store it away for later. It may ring bells then."
Shrugging lightly then. "A few hours at least. I wouldn't leave port if I were you." Dropping the shard into a pouch on her thigh. "I need to gather materials and such, prepare things...are you patient enough to wait for something you really want?"

"Patience is not my forte'. but I'll wait. come to the inn you first stayed when you have results."
and he slipped out of the room...and just because he could, snuck around to find the other elf...giving her a hard slap on the rear before casually fading into the shadows and slipping off like the snake he might be...and finding one of the dogs and tapping his boot three times, getting one to come around and slipping a note to give the crew some shore leave due to having to wait for magical test results...and then back to the cardgames with him.
