[xP I see one of the mods have a thing for starting with red letters.]

Kaori-san (Ms. Kaori), I take it that Keigo is a dialect? Yes, it is cute! So, ome ni kakarete koei desu. Mo (Also)...if you are not a beginner, how experienced are you? Are you fluent?

Keigo is like the politeness of the words used. Like how polite words are.

Well, I've lived in Japan, went to HS and also worked...I guess for a foreign born and raised, my japanese is pretty good. I wouldnt say I was fluent, but probably very close smile

Anyways, Mikagi-sama is correct, Keigo means "polite form" which is used in business settings, with elders, and also with superiors; however, for most, Teineigo is acceptable too. There are two different kinds of Keigo: sonkeigo and kenjyougo. There is also Teineigo, which is using the "masu, desu" forms.

ahh, wakarimasu I understand, doumo arigatou thank you much, Kaori-sempai (Sempai is a title given to someone that is more knowledgable than the speaker, but is not dedicated as their sensei [teacher]. Usually used in school settings by lower grade children to higher grade children).

Watakushi no namae wa Rebecca-chan desu.
Hajimemashite, dozo yoroshiku.

My name is Rebecca.
Pleased to meet you.

(Did I do that right?)

Yup, good job. One thing tho - you don't add "chan" or any suffixes to your own name when introducing yourself. Other people will use it depending on how well they know you smile

Thank you 3nodding

I'm still starting out Japanese. I am learning about the three writing systems but all I have to learn now is what certain things mean. Could someone help me and tutor me a bit, just to get me started because I don't even understand newbie conversations.... I can say some stuff in romaji... but I can't actually say whole conversations yet... unfortunately. I really wanna learn and go to Japan one day!!! emo

Nice to meet you.

As for here, it's a little cold.

I like the snow, but I don't like the cold.

I like this weather: a little hot, a little cold, and rain!

I love the rain.

It's much more common using three dots in one: …
Just write three regular dots (。), push enter and choose the 三点リーダ. wink

Ohayo gozaimasu. Watashi wa Rozu desu. Ii desu ne?

Good morning. I'm Rose. Nice weather, isn't it?

Please correct me if I'm wrong here. I'm new at this. And I did it in romanji because my computer doesn't do kana.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 03, 2007 7:18 am

It would be more correct if you hadn't forgot to write an important part of the last sentence. ^^; Well, *starts correcting*

It's not ohayo, it's ohayou.

And "Ii desu ne?" is only "That's nice, isn't it?" or "Isn't that ok?" ... something in that way. You should have written "Ii tenki desu ne?" which means the thing you wrote in English.

... Ah! Btw, it's roomaji, no N in that, that's a common mistake done by English speaking people because they're thinking that about the meaning of the word, "The Roman alphabet", but the word is constructed by Rooma (which is Rome) and -ji which means character.

Oh, sorry. I believe the part about the weather was just a typo, though. Thanks. sweatdrop
