Flint nodded to Luniya. "Yeah, see that log over there? I need a plank about an inch thick and about the length of your hand, would you mind cutting it for me?" he asked, attempting to string up the bow.
It took a few tries but he got it, testing it out by putting the rounded dowel inside the notch on the other one, putting the string around it, and moving the bow back and forth, turning the dowel.
"Perfect, once that plank is ready I can get a fire going." he said.

((The fire hasn't been started yet, at least, I don't think it has.))

The sounds of people moving about and talking managed to reach her inside of her mind, but Tyr still didn't open her eyes or move about; by this point she was sure she couldn't if she tried. Body left far behind, she couldn't even feel it any more, and she had this strange thought that if she should try to sit up she'd sit up straight through her body and would never be able rejoin the living again. Maybe it was a silly thought, but Tyr wasn't quite done with meditating anyway.

She felt so calm, so relaxed, and so proud of herself for feeling calm and relaxed around people she barely knew. Of course, organizing her thoughts hadn't been all she had been doing inside of her own mind. There was her mom, the person everyone had always told her she was the spitting image of, and there was Tyr as a little girl running around her, being an annoying little clingy pest. Mother had always been too busy for her, either planting, or working, or being locked up in jail for bar fights; she'd had no time for the shy little girl who had her head in the clouds and didn't want to follow in her footsteps as a warrior. It seemed like the only thing her mother did have time for when it came to Tyr was to teach her Elven so she would know something of her father.

She'd never known her father, but anyone who had known her father always said she looked more like him than her mother, though those same people also never said what happened to him. No wonder Tyr turned out the way she had; between her mother always gone and her father never there she had spent her entire life out in the woods to avoid the other kids making fun of her for being so small. She'd never complained, however, because if she hadn't have spent so much time alone she never would've learned about her speed abilities, or learned how to take care of herself, or learned how to sneak around so well, or about the wit, or learned how to fight at all.

The whole reason Tyr turned out the way she did all stemmed from that first decision to run away from home. Her mother was in jail again for a bar fight, and she'd finally gotten tired of being made fun of; it wasn't her fault she was so short, so why did everyone always act like it was her fault her mother was barely five foot and her father had been a wood-elf? She had wandered off into the woods to play there like she always did, only this time she had simply decided she wouldn't go back. Her mother wouldn't care, no one in town would care, and she knew well enough how to hunt and fish and defend herself from any animal that thought she was a tasty treat by that point, so it was an obvious decision.

Of course, she only knew the woods by her house that well, and the farther off Tyr had wandered into the forest the more lost she had gotten; if it hadn't have been for the wolf she had run into that night she probably would have died. She had been wandering around when the wolf had come stalking out of the trees, probably mistaking her for something that could be eaten. Out of sheer luck Tyr had tried talking to it, and instead of eating her it had sat down and looked at her like she was some intresting new toy, and then it had talked back.

The two days Tyr had lived with the wolf pack had been the best two dayss of her life; learning how to use her wit better and playing with the puppies while the older wolves hunted. The wolves had somehow managed to convince her that she was needed and even wanted at home, and so she'd eventually gone home, only to find out her mother actually had missed her... though she had shown it by hugging her to near death one moment and then beating her sensless the next.

They had become life long friends for her, she had known each wolf through their generations and had been friends with that wolf pack and every one of it's leaders for years. She'd never bonded with one of them, but they had been closer to her than family, at least until the winter they'd been chased from the area because they had been killing local animals for food in that particularly harsh winter.

Thieving had helped her forget, her secret revenge on the world, she was taking from them using the thing the had hated so much about her: her size; and then when her mother died she had had something else to occupy her time with: her mother's actually job as messanger. Then there had been Ferghall to help her forget even more...

With a long yawn Tyr stretched and came awake from the meditation, staring around her as if she had no idea just where she was. Beside her Ferghall was snoring lightly, and around her everyone was moving around and setting up camp. She smiled up at the sky and sat up, brushing the dirt out of her hair as she looked sleepily around at the camp. I miss them...

((^^;; Um, I kinda got caught up in what Tyr had been thinking about meditating... None of this information really matters, it's just here to take up space of what would other wise be a really short post: She woke up.))

Ashe cocked a smile. "You do look better that way." She too took flight and said, "Unarmed sounds fun, if you would take some off that armor off we could get started." She started to stretch, waiting for Usrah.

((in case you didn't read: Dragons can use the powers of whichever form they have taken. In this case the Elders ability to fly. At least that's how I read it. Is that correct Aisu?))
PostPosted: Tue Jul 01, 2008 4:42 pm

((Sorry, but the dragon description says excluding those races' abilities. Not a big deal, though. Ashe should just be able to fly normally, because dragons are extremely magical.))

Usrah snapped his fingers and his armor disappeared in a flash of golden light. He now wore a loose, flowing white tunic and a pair of loose-fitting black pants. He curled his hands into fists and cracked his toes.

"I promise not to hurt you. This is simply for fun."

He then took on a fighting stance similar to Elgarez's.

"I shall demonstrate the Art of the Benevolent... Storm King Style."

((That and she is a wind dragon...The we'll forget my little misreading XP))

Ashe shrugged, "What's the point of training if you don't get hurt. Though I thank you for thinking of me." She got ready, and smiled, "Never been one to use fancy names, so I got no name for this." She flew forward and started to try and land a punch on Usrah.

(I guess you didn't need me to answer after all. ^.^)

Lin looked at Elgeraz.
"You sure are lazy for a werewolf. Thanks for the help though, it is appreciated."
She smiled lightly, and soon finished setting up the tent, and all the sleeping skins inside it. The tent door could be left open all night if they wanted it to be, and they would all have to take a watch, to keep their eyes open for enemies. It was a simple way of getting things done, and making sure that nothing attacked them unprepared. Lin walked out from the tent, and stretched. Her back, and the rest of her cramped up joints, all cracked.

"That was hard work. Nothing I'm not used to though."
Lin let out a yawn, and rubbed her eyes. The after effects of the powers she usually kept in reserve had passed, and now she was feeling even more drained then before. She ignored her sleepiness, and began to get out a few things for a warm meal around the fire once it was lit.

(The fire hasn't been lit yet tic_tac_joe. I also suggest you try to do some more in your posts, I can understand if you have writers block, but if you don't, I am sure it is easier to type some more, and be more descriptive with your posts.)

Elgarez shrugged at Lin's comment.

"Lazy? I could have put this up all by myself, if you asked me to. You just didn't take my full potential into account. It's okay, though. You don't really know me that well, so what I can do is quite a mystery."

He smiled and walked away back to the tree where he had previously sat.

-----

Usrah smirked.

"The point of training is to develop knowledge against particular types of enemies."

He brushed her fist away with his left hand and pushed her backwards with his right hand. His moves were graceful and flowing. Even the motion of his body had changed into a more relaxed stance.

"Breeze Palm. A variation of the Storm King Style used to defend yourself against your enemies You see, I have fought many dragons over the years and have become familiar with many of their battle tactics. However, I am certain that a dragon as unique as you will prove more of a challenge than those others."

"Oh, really?" Ashe turned around and aimed a kick at Usrah's back. "What battle tactics did they use? And how am I any different from my kin?" She asked, though she probably already knew the answer. She knew that she wasn't really going to land a blow on him, but she was already having some fun.

Usrah took the kick while making himself fall forward. Ashe's kick slipped off of his back and he tucked himself inward, causing her foot pass over him. He did a complete flip and then returned to a vertical position. He spun around to face her.

"Well, most of their tactics were comprised of brute force. Many of them fought him in their true dragon forms, though there were a few that took the shape of smaller creatures. I would say that you're different because many dragons simply don't travel. They would much rather dwell in their lairs with hordes of gold to keep them company."

Luniya went to the log Flint mentioned and use her claws to shape it to Flint's liking. She liked working hard and it made her feel useful.

Luniya watched Ashe and Usrah spar with each other. "This should be interesting." There was a different smell lurking about. She was surprised that the others didn't smell it. "You guys I think we have a visitor," she turned her eyes towards the trees.

((tic tac this is a good opportunity for a nice length post. Introduce your character and talk about the surrondings.))

Lin followed after Elgeraz silently.
"Well I know you could have done more, but I don't like people doing everything for me. For once, I want to do things for others. I was never able to do that back at home."
She smiled back, and then noticed his ears. She hadn't really noticed at all earlier, and she wondered if Luniya had the same. She felt the urge to pull at the ears, and so she grabbed them both, and squeezed them a few times, before tugging at them.
"Hehe, you have ears!"
She noticed his tail as well, and blinked.
"Ears, and a tail. What a discovery. I think I am pretty slow noticing it. But they're both furry!"

I should go see if Luniya has the same.

Lin blinked at what Luniya said, and she turned around to face her. She looked around, and then she was able to sense the stranger. Moondust returned shortly after this, and stood behind Lin staring at the werewolf, and growling slightly. Lin was too busy looking for the stranger to even notice.
"A visitor, where? I can't see anyone, but I can sense someone, or something..."

Elgarez raised an eyebrow, confused and a bit surprised by Lin's reaction to his ears and tail. However, he did not seem to be too surprised by the announcement of a stranger. He looked up at Lin and Luniya with a smile.

"Yeah. Some guy has been out there for quite some time. I wouldn't be too worried. From what I've detected he's not corrupted by darkness."

Lin smiled at Elgarez.
"I'll take your word on that."
Eventually noticed Moondust, and she bent down petting him.
"Hey there Moondust, I guess you guys couldn't find those enemies. A pity, I was hoping to punish them! Oh wells. Why don't you go hunt for food? When you come back, you can have a meal."
Lin was speaking in her special animal language again, so that only moondust could understand her.
"I plan to go hunt then"
"Excellent, come back soon, you may get something extra."
"I look forward to it."

Moondust rubbed against Lin, and then ran off into the forest to find food.

"He's such a good tiger" she now spoke in english.
"Oh! I better get a meal ready, I am sure everyone's hungry. Well I can prepare the meal, then I will cook it, when the fire is lit."
Lin walked off and got all the things for a meal together. She grabbed some fruit, salted meat, and herbs. She put the meat back, it would last a while since it was salted.
"I should go hunt, or someone else can. Who will volunteer?"
Lin walked over to Luniya, she noticed that Luniya also had the ears a tail. She smirked, and then grabbed Luniya's ears from behind.
"Boo!" she said cheerfully.
Lin seemed to be in an extreamly happy mood, and she just couldn't help, but play with the ears of her friends.

At the word "hunt" Tyr sat up completely and quickly jerked her thin armor on, attaching her daggar back to her hip and standing up. Hunting was something she could do, and something she could do well. After all, hunting required silence, speed, precision, and caution; all things Tyr had mastered long ago. "Um, Lin... You don't mind if I go, do you?" She asked softly, but she was as nervous as she normally was, instead she was actually smiling and looked very different from the nervous wreck she had been earlier.

Flint looked up when Luniya mentioned someone nearby.
"Are you sure?" he asked, reaching for the plank. "And thanks, by the way, this should do nicely." he added, walking over to a small spot in the middle of the camp.
He grabbed a few rocks, making a large-ish circle on the ground, then put some dry brush and leaves in the middle, then the plank over it, then the whole contraption in a groove on the plank.
Holding tightly on top of the dowel, Flint pulled the bow back and forth, making it spin in the groove, generating friction and a bit of ash [Or whatever, I saw this done on a Marine training school show, I don't know exactly what it does.]. After a moment, he tipped it into the kindling, blowing slightly, when one of them glowed.
He continued to blow gently until the kindling caught, making a very small fire.
