"Okay, look," Julianne said, pulling out her cell phone, a little frustration showing on her face, "I know that you're not coming clean with me. I'm pretty sure you don't want me to call the cops. Tell you what, I'll turn off the car, and you get in the backseat and tell me what's really going on."

The little one tensed up and looked up at Julianne with wide eyes. "I'd do what she says." Tommy said. "We just want to talk and make sure you're safe. We get the police here and there's going to be a big commotion."
Rosie stared at them both for a moment, then frowned and looked back at the alley. Then at the alleys around that one. "I'm not supposed to get into the car with strangers..." she mumbled, sounding conflicted. It wasn't as though Gossamer would care if she got into the car... it was just if they went anywhere. She didn't want to get completely lost from Gossamer again. ".... you promise we won't go anywhere?" she asked, looking back up at Julianne.

"We'll only go somewhere if you ask me to take you somewhere, little lady," Julianne said, her expression calming down along with her temper, "I promise." To prove her point, she turned the car off, took the keys out of the ignition, and showed the little girl the keys as evidence. "See? Can't drive anywhere if the car's off."
The back door unlocked. "Hop in," she said.

Rosie looked back at the door, then back at the alley ways again. She... she didn't see Gossamer anywhere still. But that didn't mean she wasn't watching somewhere. She was still sort of on the whole "can't be seen in public in Gotham" kick. Probably in mist form somewhere.
With a small sigh, Rosie turned around and moved towards the passenger door to crawl inside. Once she was in, she gently closed the door, then nervously looked up at Julianne and Tommy.

"Okay, now let me tell you up front," Julianne said, turning around to face the girl. Her hand ended up on Tommy's leg, but there was no real intent there, yet. She continued to say to the girl, "I know you lied earlier. You don't live in that building. So please, just tell me the truth. If you need help, I will do all I can." She smiled as she asked, "Why don't we start with your name?"

Hoo boy... where to start? This adult was clearly more... intuitive than most she had passed by lately. If she lied more, the woman was likely going to catch on. But she couldn't just tell the truth either. Saying she was trying to break into the car or steal some hubcaps wasn't going to win her any favors. Or saying that her mom was a sorceress and they were playing a little game to get back the rest of her duplicates.
"... Rosie." she replied. "My name is Rosie. Mom lets me go out exploring as long as I keep within eyesight of her. I was... your car's really pretty. I just wanted to see it. Kind of hard to explain where I live without... people thinking they need to call child services right away..."

"Okay, Rosie. Thank you for telling me the truth," Julianne said, clearly buying into the half-truths that Rosie had told her, "I'm Julie. Let me ask you this: where IS your Mom? I'd feel much better if I left you either with her, or at your home."

"Um.... well... she's um..." Rosie began, trying to think of how to explain that she wasn't quite sure where her mother was at.
Luckily, she didn't have to wonder for long. There was a slow, gentle rapping on the driver's side window. Standing outside the car was a woman with long reddish-brown hair pulled up in a messy bun. Her dark green eyes were staring down at Julianne, and her other arm was crossed over a long, black sleeved shirt that hugged her curves.
Rosie looked up at the window and instantly recognized the face. The... hair and shirt however were new to her. Not something Goss normally wore. It was too... normal looking for her. And the hair should be black.

Julie looked towards the sound of the knocking, and found herself looking at the very Irish-looking woman. There was a very distinct resemblance to Rosie, so Julie assumed that this was Rosie's mother. She opened her door slightly (with the car off, the windows wouldn't open), and unbuckled her seat belt, saying with a smile, "You must be her mother. If you move just a little, I'd be happy to talk."

The mother, unfortunately, wasn't smiling. Nor did she look like she was in the mood to smile. Regardless, she carefully stepped back away from the door so that the other woman could get out of the car. She took another quick look back at Rosie, who slunk down into her seat a bit as though she knew that she was in trouble.

Julianne saw the woman's expression, but decided to keep the smile; better to kill with kindness. As she got out of the car, she said, "Hi, I'm Julie. I found her wandering around, pretty much aimlessly. I had just asked her where you were, when you just appeared." The smile faded a little as she decided to follow the same advice she gave Rosie, and added, "Don't be mad at her for getting in the car. I gave her the choice of letting me help, or me calling the police. It was underhanded, I know, but I didn't want her wandering around Gotham by herself. I'm sure I don't have to tell you how dangerous that can be, for anyone."

Gossamer looked back at the woman and gave her a small but noticeable grin at her last comment. "Not at all. I'm very well aware of how dangerous this city is. And as soon as I get a few of my affairs in order, I hope to move us to some place with a little more sunlight." she replied.
"I suppose I'm what you would call the "overprotective" type. I wanted to give my daughter a bit more independence and let her walk on her own for a bit. I turned around for a minute, and she was out of my line of sight. Came just in time to see her get into your car." she added. Her mood seemed to have lifted a bit. Likely due to her now knowing that her child was no longer in any danger.
In all honestly it was more because these two seemed as though they'd be easy to deal with.

"Well," Julianne said, glad to see the woman's mood lightening, "Since you're here, there's no sense in Rosie staying in my car."
She opened the door again, and said, "Alright, girlie, go to your mother."

Rosie slid out of the car without hesitation and ran up to be by the side of her mother. The dark-red haired woman placed a hand on the little one's shoulder as she hugged her leg, then looked back at Julianne.
"I appreciate you wanting to keep her safe. I'm sure if you hadn't stopped her, she'd have chased a cat down the street to try and bring it home or something."

"That's what she said she was doing, too," Julianne said, a small chuckle emerging. Well, the mother certainly knows her daughter, that's for sure.
