Daggers in that place were deadly sharp, sharp enough to split hairs, and these were no different. the dragonic etchings in the blade spoke of blood and fire...and the bases each had a screwpoint, as if there was a third object that they were supposed to be attached to.
Hunter hissed at the ripping, and it got his wakefulness and he sat up, instinct coiling his tail to him...looking around with new eyes that saw much more, and different then human ones.
"where am I?"
looking around...noting who was watching him.
"we're not in the glass sea...what are you doing here?"
Drifter listened, quietly.
"the black must be brought to heel, then. if he is truly so powerful, and purposefully seeks solitude, there must be a reason. That reason is how to ebb his great strength, to move it away from Lycear."
Still thinking it terms of earth and flowing sands.
"Dragons brood and can hold grudges, and quietly plan for lifetimes to mortal man or even elf. How did Laricalu die?"

Careful examination of the daggers told him his plan wasn't really going to work. He'd been intending to modify the daggers from the treasure trove and give them to Savryn but those screwpoints would make it seem like he was just pawning off what she could use. He wanted to make amends and to do that, it had to mean something. He put the daggers away and sighed, leaning back against one of the barrels as he surveyed his many pockets. Coming upon the dragon scale from Des, he paused and looked thoughtful. Hmm...maybe. Glancing up, he chuckled. "That's what happens when you make deals like you did." Pulling out a small rat he'd found among the water and waving it in Chy's face before dropping it to the deck so it could run. "You've come through worse, though."

"Well good evening to you too." Pushing him down to rest back in the sand with her tail, mindful of her own blades. "Your scales will keep that from getting infected...it wasn't yours anyway." Watching him as he looked around, which was no doubt odd for him. "You're near the dragon necropolis. And I am here because I do not want things to go down a bad path. Right now, I'm keeping you cool...be thankful."
"He does not enjoy city life, has always been a creature of the sands and salts. Lari was very much the same until she met Lycear." Sideglancing her. "If they meet again...he will kill Lycear." There had always been little doubt....it wasn't that Lycear couldn't handle the other, but would not be as willing to have a long fight. Kaznec was grown now and already half pushed out of the nest he should already be out of. "A mage killed her. One with great power, but at the cost of his own life in it. Only Kaznec could tell how it happened...but either he doesn't remember because of his injuries, or merely wishes to never speak of it. When a mother looks to protect her child, she cares not of the cost and Kaznec was all they had. Their other eggs had not survived, he had and she loved him dearly. The only reason Kaznec is alive is because of her."
Chy of course was smart but simple...and a running rat instantly meant a chasing falcon.
"This is baby stuff compared to most pains. Which is why I keep telling you not to fuss." Rolling over so that she was laying on her side some as it made her feel better to a degree. Especially since she was putting food away like no one's business. "it was a good deal, you have to give me that."

Drifter listened again, quietly.
"No mage would face a dragoness without good reason...wether that reason was to the sole benefit of the mage would be in question."
It just didn't make sense. a human mage would never had the learning, the power to take on a full grown female dragon, especially one protecting her offspring. an elven mage could have the learning and power, but they respected dragonkin usually.
"Lycear has hidden strength in him. Tempered by the city as it is. the one of the salt, Saewelquin...his power is in knowledge and brute force."
She was still quite readily putting the recent assaults on the sit on that ones's shoulders. at least...nothing else as of yet gave her reason to think otherwise.
"Should these two meet, you akin it to stormfronts passing into eachother. a raging torrent of blood, fang, scale and claw. and you are sure that the black will overcome the red. That will not do."
lightly taking a seat.
"If the black was the cause of these elemental assaults, how would you propose to fight back?"
"Judging from...my present circumstance, I'd say your a little late on the bad path. and if it wasn't..well...I guess mine, now...whose was it?"
Yes he was leaning back..and enjoying that right now he didn't feel like his veins were filled with liquid fire. but now he was starting to feel the cold of the desert, and absorbing the heat of the sand greedily.
Desdemona was on her way back...there wasn't much in the way of hunting by the necropolis, after all it was a place of death and powerful magics..but there were carrion worms that were more then big enough considering the dragons they fed on. she had one of those in her talons while she glided on the thermal updrafts.

Pleased with Chy's response, Kelligrin went back to feeling out the scale he'd gotten from Desdemona. He could possibly do something with that. Sliding a sharp, jagged, stone knife out of a hidden sheath, he began to test it against the edge of the scale. Indeed, small slivers began shaving off. Desdemona hadn't believed that there was a blade that would rend dragonscale, but he knew there was. He was holding it now. "I enjoy fussing over you, Vryn. It gives you an excuse to yell at me and make me feel incompetent which you do so well." Setting the scale on the floor, he began to shape it in his mind. "You proved your ability, your objectivity, and managed to please Desdemona and assist my quest in the process. Yes, I will concede that it was a good deal. You were rewarded quite nicely, too. What did you take from the stash? I didn't see."

"All we know is that he wasn't from this plane, he was alone, and in one fell swoop he destroyed so much." He didn't really like to talk about it any more than Lycear did, seeing as Lari had been a dear friend. "The question of the victory comes from the will of the combatants." Blinking at her lightly. "How do you fight nature? I suppose only back with nature or take away the resource."
"My daughter's." Snorting at him with narrowed eyes at that notion. "You should splay your wings, it works better to absorb heat through your wing webbing." Though he probably didn't know how to do that so she elaborated then and there. "You work your wings like you do your arms. You won't learn to fly that way but you can at least push them in and out."
"And yet in that explanation, I don't see how you fussing over me is enjoyable or a pay off for you." Speaking of course inbetween her eating and drinking and spasming. "Or is that sarcasm." Frowning to that notion before back to eating. Digging into her side pouch she pulled out a pair of sais that she had grabbed. "Hopefully enough of a reward to properly sell."

"True. but who nature do you have to fight with, other then myself?"
watching him slightly.
"How would you defend yourselves?"
Okay... sitting up a bit. And then spreading out the wings with a wince...and back in, and back out...okay then...and flap once, and flap twice. painful...like a limb that had been asleep for a long time.
the sais looked more like tiny swords, the hilts encrusted with jewels of all sorts, and the blades themselves looking as if they'd been scuplted out of diamond. they shimmered a bit every now and again, like they are charged with some form of energy.

He raised an eyebrow at her, nowhere near as conceding or welcoming as Lycear was to her, her kind, or their help. "Are you insinuating, Lady Geomancer, that without you here this place will simply go to ruin?"
"Just like a clumsy hatchling indeed." Snorting lightly but other than that turning her eyes up to the darkened sky, if he was confrontational now, he was not going to like what he had to eat at all whatever it was she brought back.

"No, you misunderstand me. I am simply asking how you would raise a defense without my presence or help elementally. by knowing how you would face this adverse condition, with the earth being moved against you, I can help fortify your position."
watching him carefully.
"I know you don't approve of things. and honestly...the sands are my home. the city does not cut me away from them, but I still prefer to feel the shifting sands beneath the hull of the Leviathan."
taking a long look at Koto. lifting up her crystal hand, clear and see through, before a shift gave it a more diamond look, and dragonic features.
"The shifting sands move quickly through the hourglass, Koto. those that possess shards, and can use their power, will fight to keep them."

"We have dragons in our ranks that are kin to the earth as well. The problem comes in not being able to predict when things occur and it is more or less impracticle to keep a force of dragons constantly in natural form at the moment for a what if situation." Eyes shifting to look at her less than usual hand. "Should I be suspicious to think you have one of these?"

"No. I have no such thing...I have spent many, many years to do this. I have been training as a geomancer since I was a young child."
she rested her hands on her lap.
"If I had one, I would not be what you see now. I studied many things, but the dangers of attempting to try more then this.."
holding up her hand.
"Outweigh the potential chance at fufilling a childhood dream."
Desdemona came back, landing a little distance away and dropping the work on the ground before her, before shifting back in a green mist to her humanoid form.
"It's good to see you sitting up."
before working to carve up the worm.
"I brought something for you to eat. I know it's not what your used to be trust me it's better then it looks."
In fact hunter was just about to remark on that when he shut his mouth. glancing between the two of them, and shaking his head lightly. they knew better then he did what his new body needed food wise.
"I hope so. because it certainly does not look appealing."

He had to force himself not to shrug since she couldn't see it and it was just a natural reaction. "No reason for you to understand everything about me, Vryn. Takes away the mystery." He refused to confirm or deny if he was being sarcastic because he knew she wouldn't understand. She didn't understand, couldn't. Taking the sais from her hands gently, he studied them. "They'll fetch you a pretty price for sure. Draconic items are worth more in the Rider-lands." He'd had a feeling she was going to sell hers which only gave him the motivation to rest them back on her covered thigh so she could do what she wanted with them and begin working on his pet project. The steady scraping of a blade sliding against something hard filled the air and just to fill the silence, he began to sing quietly the song his father had used to put him to sleep when he was a baby.

He merely gave a snicker snort and turned his attention back to the maps that were spread out across the table, constantly being updated with marks and symbols of all sorts. “Childhood dream…those are rarely met but still fun to ponder on.” Though he turned a new look to her. “Tell me…what is the ratio of dragons to other races among the pirates?”
“Hardly better than it looks…but essential none the less in hard times. You get used to the taste.” Any dragon knew those had a particularly nasty taste, but they were a great source of fluids and protein when in a pinch. You just had to eat past the texture and taste to get the nutrition. Turning a look on Hunter, she smirked as she was amused to an extent about this. “Once you get some fluids into you and you feel better, then you can work on….standing.” He’d probably topple over faster than that horrid little white rider dragoness who was always falling over.
“Ooooh, mystery. I understand.” Snickering as if to say ‘yeah that’s the answer you give to every woman’. “They’re worth what they’re worth wherever I may be when I sell them. They’ll fill my stomach and clothe my back for a while’s time.” If she wasn’t so prideful, she’d ask what all his noise was about. But she didn’t like people telling her what things were all the time as it made her look and feel incompetent by her blindness. Listening to the melody, she couldn’t help but start to hum along with it. She knew the song, though she had never heard it from an Inthara. Dhairiss had often sung the same thing Kelligrin was singing now when he was holding her and trying to get her to calm down for whatever reason she was upset. It made sense he got it from them, seeing as he was often with Kelligrin.

"which ratio are you looking for? thier mounts and those they are trying to break, or those that are dragonkin twisted against thier own?"
getting up and walking over to the map and looking at it.
"the dragons in training and those broken down are about even. the riders that are dragon kin...for them it is maybe one dragonkin for every ten or fifteen riders. more and more look for quick safety or wealth. many atolls have as little trust to dragonkin as they do to pirates. they fear them more, the idea that one of their kin in anger could do great damage."
a soft smile.
"My dream is possible...but the cost for now is too high a risk. what good would it be to attain my dream, if I lose myself in the process."
Desdemona shrugged.
"she has a point. but there's not much else out here. not exactly like we can find cuisine food in a graveyard."
handing over the slab of it to him, and working on one herself more to let him know yes she'd eat it too.
Hunter looked at the meat in his hand, sniffed lightly...well...that was unappealing. and his sense of smell was stronger to, like his eyesight. so a tentive bite, and good lord that was not a welcome taste. and his face showed it. but, it did make him feel better with something on his stomach, and beggars can't be choosers, now can they. so he took to eating it as rapidly as he could to get past the taste.

"Actually, I was asking how many dragon-folk are pirates themselves." Frowning lightly, "I know Rider statistics and I don't like them...though I do hope you're not saying that even pirates are now breaking dragons to heal. We at least respect you more than Riders because you abstain from that." Though another snort at the talk of dreams. "You'll probably be dead by the time you can pay the cost from the way you speak."
No Nell couldn't help but be amused by it really, as shown by her giving a light chuckle as he was experiencing. "You'll have to learn that meat is your main intake now. Sure...you can still digest all non-meats, but it won't do your body as much good. But her attention turned to the discarded tail blade nearby and she picked it up, running her fingers over the smooth curved bone that somewhat resembled her own. Sighing she looked to Des. "You might want to tackle flying and changing last."
