Why? You're going to lose so much of your embouchure and other things from not having it around. Just playing scales over the summer helps.

Hello! I love being a flute player! My flute is my baby, and I don't mean to make that sound gross or anything. I just love it. Right now I am trying to accomplish my bravato issues.

@ beautifuldream8: Bravato? Do you mean vibrato?

@ lil_kitty_TNA: What kind of weird injury?

I was doing a vaults testing back in the winter for P.E. I vaulted and didn't land properly, I landed on the right side of my chest first. I heard a cracking sound or something similar, but I never got it checked out.
I always use my diaphragm whenever I play, but ever since the accident, I've been always feeling some weird hard movements in my lower right ribcage.
I talked to my band director about it, and he told me that if I'm not confident that I'll do well because of the incident in the coming fall, he said I should probably take a break until I feel confident enough to play without worries.

o_O I think you should get it checked out. That way, if it's a true injury then you can get it healed before it gets worse; because if it gets worse, then that's not good for playing/anything that involved good diaphragm support.

Forgive me....

I would if I could. Sadly, My family doctor is being an a** for giving my family false information such as my grandmother having allergies but not specifying which ones (He kept telling her to go take blood tests, but my family thinks he's taking advantage of my grandma by just getting her to donate blood without her knowing), telling me that I had tennis elbow when it was merely a sprained wrist, and I could go into more details but I won't.
My mom would take me to another doctor but --- none that we know of are currently offering walk-ins. The ones that are offering walk-ins are those that are... in the -not-so-good parts of the city (Where all the drug addicts hang out/live). But we'll try to find one soon.

What's up my fellow flutists? XD

I've just taken up the flute, after playing brass for 8 years hehehe.
Any tips?
Do you just like blow harder for the upper octave?
(I know practically nothing about it yet)
Apart from how to play B,Bb,A,G,F,E,D. xD
Oh well xP

Well, it's not so much air as it is placement of lips. If you blow too hard, you'll over-blow the note and get a different note overall. And if you use too little air on the low notes, they'll all sound flat and gross. Use the same amount of air for all notes, only change your lips. For lower notes, make a round "ohh" and try to relax the corners of your mouth a bit and bring your lower lip back towards your neck. As for higher notes, think of the sound "oooh" (different than ohh, which sounds likes ommm) and bring your lower lip out more.

Try to get down your major scales and know their key signatures so you'll know the notes when a piece of music that has, say, Eb major as the key.

What brass instrument did you play before?

That makes sense, I'll give that a bash! Cheers!!!
I've been trying to just blow harder, and it has been quite tricky to control...

Trumpet, but mainly Flugel for the last year or so.
I know it can be a hard transition between brass and flute, but tbh it seems to have worked quite well for me =]

Once I learn a few more notes, I'll work on a few scales and that.

Cheers!! =D
