Tanner went to a pitcher on the table and poured a little water in his glass. He took a sip and put the cup down, continuing. "Now onto the matter at hand. I first started learning about the plague's aftermath when I arrived at Yent. Like you, Kai, I too was curious to see just how severe a plague it was. On the surface, it seemed like the world was back to normal, because of course the plague had occured over 300 years ago. What really scared me was the things I was discovering about the event that scarred the world forever." Tanner always had a flair for the dramatic. Kai chuckled at the cheesy statement. Tanner continued, "People had documents written, firsthand accounts, of the plague's destruction. One thing that's shrouded in mystery is just how these monsters rose out of the plague, but all the scholars seem to agree that it's that specific event which set into motion the creation of these evil creatures that are so insistent on killing everything they see." "All the scholars and I have to go by is a theory. It's backed up by other documents, but this is the main one we used for research. The notes were written by a scribe of a city far west of here, near the ocean. A port city. The book's been re-written by my men several times, so that we don't destroy the very old original copy. Even so, this volume I have is quite old." Tanner pulled out a bound leather book from his tunic. The yellowed, flaky pages inside were flipped very gently by Tanner as not to destroy the book. He read out several pages.
Third Moon, year 80 of King Undar.
I will attempt to trace events occured previously that seem out of the ordinary to this disease. We buried those that died of the infection in the field. So many perished that we ran out of space, and we started throwing them in weighted caskets in the ocean. Soon after, we got reports from local fisherman that some fish they were catching were horrendously ugly and mutated, to the point that some of the very old fisherman had died of utter shock. They were larger, with long pointed teeth and contorted bodies and claws at the end of their fins. It's my guess that those poor fish had nibbled on the corpses buried in the ocean.
Tanner took another sip of water, and started pacing again. "This is what we have to go by, a theory shared by many educated, that's largely hidden from the public. It scares me greatly. Anyway, we connect our recent attacks to this event because the monsters sort of fit the description, with the exception that they almost look like humans with scales. Fishmen, us of the Illys call them. It may sound silly, but when I saw one I was so scared my blood turned cold. As if they've grown from their previous state, they look like a mix between a fish and a human, have arms and legs, and a head, but no ears, and eyes closer to the side of their head. They're a deep, gleaming blue, it shines in the moonlight. They fight suicidally, not caring if they die. I've noticed they're nocturnal, we've never fought them in the day before. And they're stupid, often falling for old war tricks, only fearsome because of their strength and daring battle ferocity." "Now, I called upon my good friend Lucas to find people to help us locate their origin. We've been attempting to trace their location for a couple months now. I know you all don't show much fighting capabilites, having been underground for your whole life. But it's not exactly all fighting you're going to be doing, so that's quite alright." Tanner looked out the window, nighttime was approaching. "You all must be tired, I'll fill you in on your job tomorrow morning." He peeked out the door and said something to Gerard. Tanner spoke, "Gerard will accompany you back to the dining hall and you may do as you wish. Thank you all for coming with Lucas to help us." Lucas and Kai stayed behind, as Tanner took some time to catch up with Kai. ((I'll post Kai's talk with Tanner later. But I'm done. Longest roleplay post I've ever done, I'm exhausted. XD ))

I can't go back to sleep, so here I am. And also, I really wanted to get this huge plot development all posted, so that the roleplay wouldn't become stagnant. I hope you guys like all the revelations. XD))

((I'm glad you like the development. ^_^ If everything goes according to my plan I have in my head, some really awesome things will happen soon. I had to get all this explained first so that I can continue with everything. I just hope that everyone else will like the plot. I didn't want anyone to get frustrated that I just now introduced a fantasy element, since up until now it's been quite believable. But I think it's a cool idea. I always preferred just a little fantasy, so that it's not too unbelievable.))

((Yeah, if you ask me, it's a bit too easy to get out of hand when everyone is some sort of part-magic, part-elf, part-animal sort of...thing. o.O But this is cool. I like your ideas. :'D
Now I'm all excited for the next development. x.x

((I will, but I wanted to talk to Tanner myself I have some ideas of my own, specifically that I was hired by Tanner earlier to protect them. So I'll wait till you're done with the Kai/Tanner talk, then make my entrance))

She hadn't got in trouble. She had attended a meeting in the Lord General's Own Meeting Room and hadn't even gotten in trouble for it. She exited quietly, eager to be out of the room, lest someone decide she didn't need to be there. Outside, Pix was lingering by the door and Catriona wondered what he could be doing. Waiting, perhaps? She made to ask him about his wounds but she remembered they were ultimately her fault and found herself mouthing wordlessly at him. Blushing furiously she turned around to find Andrea, her only friend and source of comfort. She could not, however, and was stuck with her back to Pix, rather lost for words and feeling rather vulnerable.

He was fuming, that b*****d Tanner had basically hung him out to dry. This was not part of the deal, and he NEVER took jobs for the military. Someone was going to pay very dearly for this and damn his old wounds. Then he saw the girl, he wanted to strike her right there, unleash his anger. Hell, she wasn't even important. And he would have had he been alone but in public he wanted to keep some control. The children still thought he was as good as he said he was, not the run down mess he had become.
So instead he reached out putting a hand on the maid's shoulder, "It's ok, I'm sorry for acting angrily at you." he said in a calm and soothing tone.
No one could tell him that his acting skills had declined.

Catriona recoiled visably when she felt his hand on her shoulder, but when she heard his soothing words she was inexplicably calmed, believing his apologies. Reassured, she turned to him and, keeping her eyes on her hands once again twisted in the front of her skirt, asked softly, "How is your wound? I hope I was able to fix it up well enough; I never was very good with medical attention. Rather squeamish, as it were..." Her sentence, comparitively confident in the first few words, faded into an inaudible murmur as she realized she was rambling. Her gazed flicked back and forth between different spots on the rug and, occassionally, Pix's boots. She couldn't just mind her own business, could she?

"Don't be so nervous, we're all friends here," he lifted her chin with a finger and smiled genially at her. Atleast she was easy to look at, it made the acting easier. His old skills from being with the Harlequins had never left him. He could act and jest and preform the night away, and when it came down to fighting, he did it much the same.

She nodded slowly, gazing widely at him with innocent grey eyes. His eyes were so cold, like a winter chill. Her eyes sparkled, his just simmered. Such unfeeling, analyzing eyes... She became accutely aware of his finger on her chin and she tried to pull herself away from his gaze unsuccessfully; she didn't think she managed any movement at all. Moments stretched themselves out in front of her and she wondered why Pix captivated her so; this was the first kindness she had whitnessed out of him. So why did she find herself unable to break his gaze?

Women were so easy to deceive, all you had to do was look them in the eyes.. He kept the gaze ,"You really are too shy.." He cooed. He needed to think of someway to be off with her.
