Children Of The Flame

But the way she talks, she claims it was a personal failure, Gion mused. And she says she was right beside him when it happened ... whatever it was.

Well because she probably thought she could prevent it being so close, but the thing about cross fire or things of similar nature is that you can't tell. Because originally the person who is hit wasn't the target.

Daemon pointed out.

It doesn't stop, but then again it could have been something else, but it's still a possibility.

Gion nodded thoughfully. Well, perhaps someday I'll ask her about it, he mused.

He was growing tired again, and he decided to stop for a while to rest and eat. He slid down between two drifts and built up a wall to block the wind.

What's the time?

Daemon asked, something that was quite normal for him since he had little sense of it without Gion's help.

Gion looked around, but he really couldn't tell ...

I think maybe about noon-ish? he thought. I can't see the sun, it's far too cloudy ... and I think it's starting to snow again ... at any rate, I'm just guessing by my stomach.

He heard the wind pick up again and made the wall of his little shelter thicker and higher.

Hmm... and the fact that you're traveling in snow doesn't help matters, it uses up your energy sooner.

Daemon mused, he supposed there was no way to tell until they didn't have to worry about it anymore.

Yeah, there is that, Gion admitted reluctantly. Though I suppose that last night's sleep ... or half sleep ... isn't really helping matters either, really ...

If nothing else, though, he was learning a lot on this trip. Even if he hadn't yet had a chance to prove himself against anything.

Eat well.. you packed enough to last you a very long while.. especially since a lot of it came when your sister emptied her pack too.

Daemon replied back until he realized perhaps mentioning Elnara was not the wising action at the moment.

Gion was silent for a while as he took a wrapped piece of waybread from his pack and started eating. He wasn't sad, he was angry. Well, not strictly true ... he was both sad and angry.

He still couldn't believe that his brothers would so flatly reject to accept their sister just because she had an ability that almost no one else had. It was true, the ultimate source of the ability had been a demon, but that didn't make their mother or sister a demon. It wasn't a demonic power, it was just a power.

Is there such a thing as a good or evil power? he asked Daemon slowly, thoughtfully. Or is it just a power, and how it is used depends completely on the user?
PostPosted: Fri Mar 16, 2007 5:11 pm

No... there is no such thing as an evil power, there are powers and magicks that are considered dark or dangerous, but only how a person goes about obtaining and using such a power determines this.

Daemon replied back seriously.

The means to an end is what determines what is evil or good not the power itself. Why?

Because I think the biggest reason why no one likes Mother or Elnara is because their shapeshifting ability originally came from a demon, Gion explained. Mother killed it, which was how she got it ... and Elnara got it from her, and so indirectly from the demon ... so people think it's evil, and they're scared of them.

The wind picked up even stronger, and Gion shivered a bit, actually starting to feel the cold a little.

He considered building a shelter again to warm up ... but it was still early, really he should travel a bit more first ...

He finished the waybread and started on the leaf.

Well techcially that isn't a new concept... really the idea because one thing is evil if a person shows signs of it they're considered evil.

Daemon replied then with a sigh.

Not to mention my home and yours are very different some things wouldn't apply very well.

Snow started falling then, slowly at first, then thicker and quicker. The wind was still growing, too ...

I think it would be interesting to learn the differences between our worlds in more detail, he told Daemon as he turned and began building a wall on the other side of him as well. I don't suppose I'd ever be able to go there myself, though.

Wait,
he reminded himself. Of course I have to believe that I can ... and then we can believe that I can get you back home as well!

Daemon was happy for Gion's optimism though he wasn't fully like that. He knew things were ify but he was okay with how things were now. Still... he wished he could get back, more for Gion... a world like Gaia would suit him better he thought.

Perhaps when I do... we can discuss the difference.

That would be nice, Gion agreed happily, finishing with the wall and starting to dig into the side of the drift. The snow was heavier than it had been the night before, and it was harder work this time ...

He was starting to feel a little frustrated, to tell the truth. He hadn't made much progress today, and he knew it. He wanted to reach the Borderlands so badly now ... not for adventure's sake, not for the sake of receiving answers from Ulani and Ulrich, not even just for the sake of meeting them: but to escape the fury of the winter weather.

No, he hadn't been expecting anything like this at all. Perhaps he would see if he could stay with his relatives until winter was over and the snow was gone, and traveling became easier once more ...

Now THERE was an idea.
