Kaori had been resting back against what served as a wall for their natural shelter, worrying about Selyna. The woman was not the most stable creature when she was around males, she had seen that enough at the house, not to mention her aura practically glowed with the fear she held in her. She started slightly when she heard trampling around in the brush. It was not Abel, she knew that from the pure and simple thought that he would never make that much noise. And Kaori had a feeling that it was not Selyna, for she had no reason so stay in the under brush. "Hello?" she called out, sitting up as straight as she could and looking out at the bushes. It was not dark out, thank the gods, but that did not mean that she could see everything that was there. The smoke from the fire was blowing across her line of sight, distorting images ever so slightly, and her eye sight was not compleatly back to normal yet, she was still squinting a little bit. "Who is there?" she called out, her heart momentarly leaping into her throat.

((And with that I am off to bed! night all!))

Danaiss did not want to frigthen her so he stepped forward with the wood in his hands.
"Danaiss" he said softly and he sat to the fire without another word. Trying to warm up from his wet clothes and adding wood in the fire.
He did not dare looking at her. He did not want to see any eyes whatever happy, scared or mean. It would bring too much memories. He just wanted to rest.

Abel shifted idly back to the form of the lare wolf, following unconcerned. He was sure the camp was a bit farter north than the direction they were heading. He remembered, even if the wind was going the wrong direction for him to be sure, but he was positive. There was no need to worry, and though Danaiss was a ways off and out of eye shot, but still Abel was unconcerned, not yet. There was no reason. Kaori, and Selyna on her way. He lifted his feet, and placed them down carefully, thinking about the others, including the long lost sisters than the direction he was going.

((ok so i was rambling, next shall be better, i promise.))

Originally running towards the camp, her mind racing a mile a minute, Selyna stopped and looked around in a panicked manner for a moment. It dawned on her that they’d be going back to the camp too, and they could easily overpower her, regardless of Kaori being there. Finding a sturdy tree, she scrambled up it and pulled her knees in close to her chest; she began rocking herself back and forth, with her balance able to sustain her behavior. She could see down into the entrance of the camp site they’d set up, when she heard someone coming, she froze and stared down unblinking in the direction of the noise. Narrowing her eyes, she saw him; Danaiss was stalking out in the bushes for some reason, though he was doing a terrible job. Looking between him and Kaori, she panicked a bit again, thinking because she’d fought, that he may have felt she was “more trouble than she was worth” as she’d so often heard, and was now after Kaori. Jumping down, she ran in just as he was coming in with firewood, sliding in next to Kaori shivering with cold and fear, she remained next to her just in case. As much as she would hate for “something” to happen to her if anything were to happen to Kaori because of her….. She’d never be able to get over that. Wondering yet again where Abel was, if only because he’d at least protect Kaori, she kept her eyes on Danaiss, not saying a word to either of them.

Danaiss did not move as Selyna approached although this was obvious that she would have defended herself and Kaori to death if he tried to do anything. *I am no monster* he said to himself, he shivered even more and kept his eyes down into the fire, not wanted to cross Kaori's or even worse Selyna's eyes...he was hungry but did not dare moving or standing as that would have scared them. He waited for Abel to come back or one of them to address him and stayed quiet.

Kaori had watched as Danaiss walked into the camp. Despite Abel's expression of his dstrust for this man, Kaori could see no reason for her to not trust him. His energy did not feel like that of one that meant harm to their group. It did make her curious, however, as he seemed to have two conflicting patterns in his aura, and at the moment at least they both seemed to be fighting for control. She did not understand it, and so for now she simply observed the other, nodding her acknowledgement of him when he greated her, a slight smile on her face as she watched him to show him that, to her at least, he was welcome.

Then Selyna came running into the camp, causing Kaori to jump ever so slightly, as she had not heard her approach, though when the woman slid in beside her Kaori realized that she had probably been making quite a bit of noise. Kaori stared at her friend with concern and confussion in her eyes. "Selyna?" she asked, her throat having gone hoarse again before she coughed once to clear it out. Kaori wrapped an arm around the shivering woman. She pulled the other close to her out of pure habit then rested her cheek on Selyna's head before turning her gaze back to Danaiss. She was confussed about him, unable to figure out what he was.

Finally, after a moment or two of silence, she spoke up. "Danaiss? What are you... if it is not to rude of a question to ask. Your aura... it's very... mixed, is the only way that I can explain it..." Kaori hesitated to speak, for she knew that the question may sound rude to him, but it bugged her that she could not figure out his race. Much like when she had first me Abel, but almost more so, for she felt that she should know at least a part of the feeling of his aura.

Danaiss kept his eyes in the fire and sighed. He did not know how to say it, he had never told anyone about his story...but they had included him in their group without question, he owed them the truth...*but if they knew the truth they might throw me out of the group...*
He opened his mouth a couple of times as if was about to speak but then closed it.
After a while he started, with a low, soft and sad voice, close to a whisper...
"Long long ago there was a boy. He was happy although he did not know his father. He was raised by his mum and uncle, both humans, and trained as a Priest of Life to the Godess Danais.
But one day, while he was wandering in the forest he heard screams. He ran into the direction of the screams..." his voice broke..."there was a little girl and a shadow on top of her which disappeared when the boy approached...She was dying...there was...blood everywhere...he had...blood was running from her throat...he was a vampire"
Danaiss's voice emphasized the last word with hate
"She died in the boy's arms...but her spirit entered his soul...the Spirit had the purity and softness of the little girl and the strength and cruauty of the vampire...at that instant the boy realized that he could not be a human, humans could not host a spirit...not that way...
he went home and asked his mother...she told him that his dad was a witch but did not say more..."
He stopped talking, lost in his memories...he did not want to tell them everything, to tell them what happened after...this was enough for the day...tears were running silently on his cheecks...
"I could not save her..." he added in a sob.

Suddenly, something dawned on Abel. Danaiss and the girls were much closer than he originally thought. He broke into a stressed run, cursing himself and his stupidity for getting semi-lost. He stumbled into the area, straightening his stance before walking over to Kaori and Selyna, his head turning so he could keep his eyes on Danaiss all the way. When he stopped before Kaori, he gave her one brief glance before moving around to the side unoccupied and laying down, gently placing his head in her lap.

He shifted his head to the side, and sighed once, sounding very wolf-ish as he did. He wanted to apologize, but he was afraid of offending the man. He hadn't known him long, and he could be terribly mistaken. And another thing, Kaori had welcomed him, and his place was not to question her, though it worried him how easily she trusted. He got there just in time to hear Danaiss tell them his story, though he said it in a kind-of third person point of view and had never plainly stated "I" but it was a given.

Selyna

PostPosted: Sat Dec 15, 2007 3:10 pm

Only half listening to his story, as all that matter to Selyna right now was her safety and that of Kaori’s, she glanced up at Abel, afraid and ashamed that he’d leave her in harm’s way like that. From her point of view, her actions only solidified that she would have to leave when the time came. Startled a bit by Danaiss’ sudden crying, she furrowed her eye brows, unaware of what had upset him so. Going through her mind, she recalled him saying something about a vampire and not being able to save a girl. Now deeply confused by the story and his reaction, compared to how he’d just handled her a moment ago, she felt this man wasn’t stable and needed to be watched carefully, and since Abel obviously wouldn’t do it, that left it up to her.

((Lame I know, sorry. I couldn't think of anything sweatdrop ))

Kaori had layed her hand on top of Abels head when he had rested it on her lap, absent mindedly scratching behind his ears. Momentairly, she wondered if her dogs had managed to get away before the mob had burnt her house. The thought brought a chill down her spine and a lump to her throat, so she pushed it to the back of her mind. When Danaiss started to talk, she turned her full attention to him.

At first, she did not know how to reply to Danaiss' tale, so she sat there against the wall with her arm around Selyna. "Not all vampires are like that..." she said softly after awhile, saddened by the thought that such an experiance had been his first encounter with the species. For the moment, she did not know what else to say, for she knew the exact same feeling, of not being able to save someone...

"I think..." she said almost to herself, "that our little group is more alike than it would seem at first glance..."

"Mmm" Abel murmured, enjoying the attention, and how good it felt. When he felt Kaori's movement of her shuddering beneath him, he glanced up. Checking to make sure she was ok. Though she seemed focused on Danaiss half a moment later, there was something else, though he decided to pursue it later. The pause between Daniass' story and Kaori's response gave him the chance to think about it too. Though there was nothing he could think of that would be appropriate.

He nodded a bit, agreeing with Kaori. Even if his experiences of the species were as limited as hers, he remembered the one in mind. There was another moments pause, then Kaori spoke again, and he once more glanced up, a quizzical look acorss his wolven features. What was she talking about? Looking at it from the surface he couldnt add the situation to her statement. Even though he could have looked into it deeper, he decided to let her explain, prompting her with a murmured. "Go on"

((Short, but it got the job done, sorry))

Kaori gave a dry, humorless laugh as she half closed her eyes again at Abels prompting to continue her train of thought. "Just... we all seem to have something in our past that seems to conect us... not literally, but... I do not really know how to explain it..." she chewed on her lip for a moment before continuing. "Like... with my family... and Danaiss' experiance... you and Selyna have never told me about your past... but there is something there... it's in your energy, and your eyes... It's like we have all been hurt in some form or another.... and that is what connects us... Heh.... I am not making any sense..." Kaori said finally as she leaned her head back against the 'wall' of the cave and staring out at the stars, a strange, thoughtful almost-but-not-quite smile on her face.

((erk, short. Ah well.))

The morning mist rolled slowly over the low hills and plains of the valley, the shadows of the moutians still bringing a deep chill to the late morning hours. Overhead the blue sky was unmarrd by a single cloud as birds flew in great flocks above. And the birds saw many things upon the plans. Wagons, horses, people, animals, flowers rivers; all sorts of things these birds saw. Yet there were two things they did not. Two things that raced upon the road, their feet crushing the dirt and gravel beneath their unseen boots. Reno and Demetrius ran on, the sweet cool upon their brows and they went, the city well within their sight.

They had riden hard since they and the priestest had parted ways, journeying day and night without rest. Already they had ridden two horses to death and now the city was there, standing mighty before them and soon they found themselves slowing their pace, their breaths coming more relived now as they approched the city's great gateway. The high arch stood well over twelve feet tale and was wide enough that two carts could pass without fear of collision. Beyond the gate lay the insides of the city. Reno and Demetrius waited until they were fully composed and then they cast the insible hoos from their faces, their smiling face stunning the guards. Reno was barking orders loudly as he revelaed his Inqisitional daggers to the guards, proving hi to be no threat.

“Hold your blades and still them, harm is not what we intended to infilct upon thee. For if we had, you would be dead by now!” Reno slide the daggers under the folds and out of sight once more. “Listen soldiers, anathema are coming. Their footfalls bring them here with each and every passing moment.” Reno finished speaking and instantly every soldier's head bowed, either out of respect or fear and Reno turned his eyes upon Demetrius.

“Listen Demetrius, remain here. I go to report to the Arch Priest. If these accursed anatham should return before I with Templars, well...make sure they do not get away...I want as many alive as possible. “

As you say, so shall it be.” Muttered Demetirus. Then in unison, both raised their cowls and disappeared.

Abel grunted and readjusted his head on Kaori's lap. But she was right. "Yeah and?" He was still hurt over his past, and not exactly willing to share. "Lots of us non-humans have. I'd be willing to say almost all." He stared, in one could say a defiant almost glare. He just couldnt give it up. It hurt too much and it was none of their business. She was right, sure he'd admit that, but admitting the certain events in question was a bit harder. His tail whipped from side to side, in an irritated manor. "Sure you're making sense." He grumbled, still focusing on nothing in particular on that opposite wall.

Abel rose to pace restlessly, thinking entirely too much about it. His head was lowered and each step was placed heavily as the next rose. One side to the other than back again. Oh this was his weakness, and he wasn't any good at hiding it. 'Just who do they' spin 'think they are,' spin 'thinking they can' spin 'pry like that?' He thought to himself, spinning once more to head in the opposite direction.

Kaori had lifted her hnd slightly in surprise at the gruffness in Abels voice. It was obvious that she had struck a chord with him, but she was not sure what it was... "Well... yeah... you are probably right but..." Kaori was at a loss of what to say. She had not meant to irritate him, and she was now compleatly thrown off by his attitude. So she shut her mouth instead and leaned back against the wall, watching as the silver wolf pace back and forth. She chewed on her lip as she tried to figure out what she might be able to say that might calm him down. She was at a loss for words, however, and so just watched as Abel paced, certain that it was something that she had said that had set him off.
