User ImageJaws parted, sides heaving and tail swishing from side to side with a lazy movement, a lone, muscular lion padded across the dust-covered ground. Huge paws pressed almost silently against the ground. Almost. For Amari was not a stealthy beast, nor a hunter. He was blessed with a strong body simply from all the travelling he had done...not to mention the fights he had gotten in.

However after spending such a long time away from the pridelands catching hardly anything to eat, he craved to see his mate again, wanted to watch her graceful hunting techniques and perhaps learn them for himself.

The truth was that he had never truly been taught anything of the hunt, of the thrill it could bring and of the art to bring down different sorts of prey. At best he was sloppy, but he wasn't fussy. If he caught something then he would thank the goddess and be done with it.

He paused in step, raising his head and gazing about him, a swirl of wind caught at the dust, sending it fluttering up in a great golden swirl. The sun continued to beat down and beneath his paws the cracked ground caused only slight hindrance to his path.

Next step. Water. Was he likely to find any out here? Probably not. With a heavy sigh he lowered his head once more, strong muscles rippling beneath a dusty coat as he moved on with a relentless pace. There was no other option. Next stop. Pridelands. He would visit his mate...perhaps even announce his decision to stay with her. Leave the life of freedom and travel...become a pridelander. Was it truly what he wanted?

Undecided he continued on, panting, eyes downcast.

User Image A large blue rougue lion walks into the southlands, as he was walking heavy footed dust rose behind him making the air cloudy. He had't ever come into the southlands so it was all new to him, he'd only ever been into the mainland and the jungle before with Neema, but Balamwezi was in search for a change. He needed to find someone else to love and cuddle, as he couldnt be on his own for the rest of his life, life sure isnt worth living if you have nothing to love in the world.
As he walked around exploring the new ground he spotted a orangie brown tanned lion about the same age he was at the corner of his eye. He plucked up the courage to go talk to this lion, he discintively remembered the anchor sort of shape on his nose, this lion was familiar, perhaps he'd seen him when he was at a younger age?
As he drew closer to the lion he did definately recognise him, and drew a breath to say hello,
"Heya, m'names Balamwezi, call me Bala for short,"

User ImageThe southlands was a place of serenity for Amari, a place where he could walk and walk and not meet a single living soul. On most occasions he enjoyed the peace and quiet, and came here for that very reason. He loved the sun, the heat and although most would find the scenery rather dull, he enjoyed gazing upon the stretch of gold.

The dust however was a problem all of it's own.

He sneezed after inhaling some and took a few steps backwards almost jumping out of his fur at the sound of a voice. A male voice! His muzzle wrinkled in the beginnings of a snarl. claws unsheathing and teasing at the ground beneath him as he whirled around with a grace he rarely showed.

Bala...blue...blue lion. He blinked, startled by the brilliant colour of the lion's fur in such a manner he almost forgot to maintain his dominant posture. How dare this...this freak come walking right up to him like that? However something familiar tapped at his memory, he remembered seeing this lion once before...perhaps briefly. He had been younger then, unable to pick a fight. Now however they were evenly matched.

He snorted, eyes narrowing as he strengthened his pose and gave a low growl, head lowering a little and ears pinning back. "What's this Blue? Come to pick a fight?" Oh dear...seems someone was still a little on the grumpy side when it came to the male side of the species.

The sun, eternally running his familiar course across the skies, smiled his golden gaze upon the grasslands, catching those same trees, those same patches of scrub as every day it caught. Yet today something trembled, something moved where movement was rare. It was but as a shadow, fleeting, only a scent to tell the tale.

In that split second a spot on this dark movement shone like the sun himself, so golden and pure, almost blinding. On this mark the shone often pricked in it's travels, but never was it allowed to play there long.

Silence marked the travel of those paws, silence the body flowing liquidly from place to place, white and golden eye watching those in the area, but mouth giving none away.

User Image Bala looked puzzled and wrinkled up his nose, and remembered who it finally was, Amari, he'd felt sorry when the other lions picked on him and tried to stick up for him. But remembered the temperment the lion had on him then, obviously hadnt changed now.
"A fight? me? No, i dont fight unless need be, what kind of lion do you take me as?" he circled round the lion, angry that he'd suggest such a thing that Bala would do.
And once again the colour 'blue' had been brought up to the subject, it always hurt Bala when they made fun of his colour. Flashbacks happen to when he was younger, he was always an odd cub different from the others. Other cubs wherent allowed to hang round him as their mothers would tell them such stories about how his 'eyes where evil like pure blood' and that he was abnormal not to even live near normal lions. He'd all forgotten all of this untill now as he didnt really want to rember it.

User ImageUnaware as of yet of the other presence lingering nearby the rust-coloured male narrowed his eyes, claws scraping small grooves in the dust as he flexed them experimentally.

"Well what if the need is called now? What then?" The words slid gently from his mouth, a playful and threatening smile playing on his maw before fading beneath yet another snarl and a louder growl. "What kind of lion I take you as? Well are you a lion? Never seen one with your....condition before." Obviously referring to the colour of his fur, he had no idea how much he was hurting the male.

He was such an idiot sometimes, oblivious to the feelings of others, particularly if they were males. Flirting with femmes, fighting with guys he often found himself in a difficult situation with others, only having a few close friends. He was an idiot and that was all that could be said. All brawn and no brain - Amari in a nutshell.

"So...Bala." He tried the name with a glare, "what'll it be? Are you a lion or a mouse?" Not that he'd seen a blue mouse either...but meh...the only blue thing he'd ever seen was a parrot, and there was no way this Bala would be able to fly. A silly comparison really.

Watching the pair through half-lidded eyes, a flicker of amusement traveled across the black figure's features. Her mouth curled serpentine upwards, eyes sparkling a little as a spark of humour was found in such simplicity.

Fighting, such a childhood pastime, proving one's worth to the world in order to prove it to oneself. And did it work? She could only wonder, bereft as she was to such a need as that which drove it.
A snigger almost gave her away, before being suppressed. Instead, that calm smile remained, that amused glint in those bi-coloured eyes.

User Image Bala stared at Amari, and snarled
"What if the need is called now? then the need is called now, but i shant 'pity fight' with someone who is being a complete berk and trying to pick a fight such as you're displaying right now." he smirked "condition? i dont call it a condition i call it a gift, you're just jealous as you're 'common'" he raised his eyebrows, allthough the comments where hurting inside he had to fight back and pretend that he didnt care. He couldnt believe when he'd just said, it was the nastiest thing he'd ever said to another lion.
Bala stood up, "well, unless you need some help with vision or learn what a mouse and a lion is, im a lion," he looked around to see whether other lions where ant their presence. He saw a dark black shadow, by the slender figure and the way it moved he could judge it was a female. He hadnt spoken to a female of his age for a long time, the last one was Neema, but if he wanted to find someone he had to put himself on the market.

((*scrambles to make a quick reply* I have to leave after this @__@ but we can continue later =3 ))

Well, well, well so the lion did have fight in him. Growling in reply to his snarl, Amari lowered himself instinctively. Eyes locked firmly upon the other lion, teeth bared as he continued the lengthened growl. Being unobservant he had not yet noticed the feminine shadow close by. Probably for the best since his ability to act normal around them was close to zero.

"Gift? To look like a wingless parrot?" Ha okay so he used the parrot idea...well he was out of snide comments and it was better than nothing. "You wander all by yourself because others don't want to be seen with such a strange beast. You'd scare away the antelope before any got even close to catching them." The corners of his mouth twitched in amusement.

However as Bala looked away, seemingly distracted by something Amari did what instinct told him. He pounced. Back legs uncoiled like springs beneath him, bulky frame propelling forwards, forepaws outstretched, claws ready to land a hefty blow. A powerful roar rolled from parted jaws, a mighty sound that caused the ground to almost tremble underfoot.

He knew it was wrong.

Knew it was pointless.

But experience told him that all males were threats that had to be destroyed and in the blue and white face of his adversary he saw those of his brothers, teasing and tormenting him. Daring him to try and land a blow.

User Image"i may not have wings on the outside but dreams and thoughts can make you fly on the inside," he could see that Amari was getting angry at the comments he was making. "I prefer to walk alone if such 'lions' like yourself walk amoung these grounds, alot of lions hang round by themselves so i bear not to differe here. If you cannot see, i am well fed as i hunt well, my colour is no problem for me"
Bala quickly turned back round from watching the shadow walk across to see Amari pounce on him, he rolled backwards and pushed him away with his powerfully strong back legs. He hadnt ever fought a lion before, the only times hed had to fight where to catch food.
"Urgh, what do you think youre doing?" Bala stands up furious with rage "just to think i used to stand up for you, big mistake obviously" he frowned, turning around walking away towards the shadow he'd glanced at before being pounced on the big idiot of a lion.

He frowned, leaping back another pace in case the lion wanted to take a swipe at him, shaking the mane out of his eyes.

All this metaphorical and poetic language made his brain hurt. Flying on the inside because of dreams? This made him falter however, thinking back to his mate waiting for him at the pridelands. When he looked into her eyes he almost felt as if he could fly. Was that was this lion was talking about? Ah whatever...it wasn't important. He wrinkled his nose and glanced up to meet the crimson gaze of the strangely coloured lion.

What was it like to be such a strange colour? Was it a blessing or a curse? Maybe a bit of both...He couldn't help but feel a stir of jealousy, wishing that he was something to look at. If perhaps he had a more interesting coat pattern he too would gain more eyes from pretty ladies. His dusty coat offered nothing that could be considered 'unusual' and truth be it the femmes would overlook him despite all efforts...well...all except for one. Maawio. He was not worthy of her love that was for sure, and yet he couldn't bear to leave her, he wanted to be a part of her life, wanted to make her happy. As long as she was there by his side he would never feel empty again.

Snapping back to reality he saw the blue lion walking away and anger swelled within him. He must have been an idiot to turn his back to an angry lion! Ego damaged a little at the thought that maybe Bala wasn't scared of him he took a step forward.

"HEY! Where'd you think you're going!? Stand up for me? Don't make me laugh!" He bristled in irritation, paying no heed to the watching shadow and made for the other lion again, swiping out at the other's hind leg. "You don't know me!" He would not converse with males...well...except for Mahiri and Asi.

"Where am i going i hear you ask? im going over to the femminate shadow over there, i dont wish to waste my time with you," he stopped in his tracks and turned his head to look at Amari, for some big lion he lacked a brain "When you where younger, when everyone else didnt like you i stood up for you and said you wherent that bad of a lad, my mistake, you seem to have a problem with anyone," he growled as Amari swiped at his back leg "dont touch what you cant afford.. kid" even though that Amari was a fully grown adult Bala thought that he acted like an immature terrotorial kid that needed to grow up inside before he was a proper adult and to be treated like one.

*padding quietly through the long dry grass, a small lion cub glanced around her nervously. She had been on her own since she can remember. She knew she wouldnt be able to defend herself against an attack so she kept quiet, walking cautiously through the swaying grass in search of a small meal.*

With a snort and a swish of his tail he backed up a little, a rumbling growl emanating from his throat. "You have the wrong lion. You don't know me." He repeated it once more as if trying to force himself to believe it then turned from the blue lion and burst into a run. He would have been able to handle a slap in the face, but not words. Words hurt more than any strike could and the worst part of this was that he had been the cause of it.

Did he have problems? He stumbled over his front paws, stubbing his nose against the cut and grazing it upon a jagged rock. Ouch. He rubbed at it with a forepaw, now wanting to find water more than anything. He looked a wreck and there was no way he could reutnr to Maawio like this.

That was when he heard it. The soft treading of someone nearby. He raised his head, sniffed at the air - which aggravated the wound on his nose - and realised that he still wasn't alone. He cleared his throat and remained where he was lying on the floor.

"Hey...anyone there?" His voice was no longer filled with hatred, instead it was soft and almost weary.

"I dont wish to know you" He turns back round and starts walking again over to the shadowy figure, he took a glance back to see what Amari was doing, he saw him run then tumble.. smacking of what it looked like his nose on a rock, it looked quite painful, if he hadnt been so disheartful and mean to Bala then he would of helped him as it was in Bala's nature. Yet because he was just being a berk then no.. he wouldnt help..
Turning back round again, hoping finally to meet who and what this mystery lion/lioness was.
