"I guess he's kinda? I think maybe there's magic and there's..." She gestured to the weakly stirring were, " hella magic." America sighed, and admitted, "I dunno. I'm new to all this, just starting seeing through his eyes a few weeks ago." The bluejay preened a bit at the attention, settling firmly onto America's shoulder. Tomorrow America would have the startling realization that Algernon Mixlin had taken his belt off in front of her.The amount of belated blushing would startle (and maybe flatter) anyone watching.

"That answers that question. Thank you, Jamie," Jeremiah pushed his hand against the wall and walked over to hit the button on the elevator to hold it in place. He was not having it go back downstairs, regardless. It was staying right here, thanks. "Wherever she is, it takes a while to get here." He rolled his shoulders, back protesting and pain lancing through him. If anyone was to touch him, he was cold to the touch but paid it no mind at this point. "We can only hope she can fix this or guide or-" Jeremiah's hand flicked in through the air. If worse came to worse, he could ... "We need to get the others together in case this can be fixed. The Sergeant's word is backed up by mind but eventually that won't hold them anyway." He glanced over to Eve to see if she was alright. Those legs of hers ... They had to be an experience to learn again.

Alg didn't seem to quite grasp the blush to be honest. He was looking at the bird. He hadn't seen anything like a warg before tonight. Still, they shouldn't dawdle so he was turning for the stairs, talking to them over his shoulder. "I've a magic cat actually." His green eyes cast back at Jack and America, "Her name is Violetta. Come by the bookshop and meet her." She'd even pose for pictures. Mostly because she wouldn't bother moving and she liked attention.

"N-No problem," he responded to Jeremiah, remaining quiet as the detective continued, going over what needed to be done. As much as he wanted to keep to the silence, he piped up again. "Um... that w-was a while ago... before the weres were..." Biting his lip, he shifted a little. "Should I... update her?"

Seeing s**t. Bird eyes. Magical cats. His mind buzzed with possibilities and mild indignation that now wasn't the time to really be pestering them with said inquiries. He merely nodded for now, in understanding and as a promise; there was every intention to investigate the moment he had a chance. Assuming he lived.
"This is like an anime. A bad quality anime," Jack said with a grunt as he took on the were's weight, bruises wailing underneath. "Animation budget's absolute s**t. But what bookst--"
There was a pause. He looked at Algernon again.
"...You're not...Professor Mixlin, are you?"

That was it. The were was pushed through the portal, and then he was gone and the portal was gone. Shiloh was left standing with the individual he'd been carting to the tear, their now haggard body slowly sliding down to the floor as he loosened his grip. They were now on the floor, and Shiloh was left gawking.
"Is... I-Is it over...?" he was speaking to no one in particular, those messy feelings of panic and dread still lingering over his head. Those weren't his feelings—they were someone else's—the were. They were his thoughts.
Did they do the right thing?
It was hard to tell, because Shiloh had little grasp on this situation as a whole. He didn't know what the other world was, and he didn't know what these were-guys were supposed to be, and he didn't know... he didn't know jack s**t, and it bothered him. It bothered him a lot.
And then there were the footsteps. He was so goddamn tired, so so so tired, and he only realized it was law enforcement patrols when Jeremiah and Shun called out to them. His breathing hitched, eyes scanning the crowd.
The weres. Jamie.
It was a different panic, because no one was in any immediate danger of dying. Or well, most people weren't; y'know, the people that didn't have rabbit ears and tails and feet. For the first time in the midst of all that latent agony, Shiloh made his way back over to his friend, clutching at his shoulder. Though the blood had slowed to a trickle, it remained bright and contrasting against his shirt, sore and oozing and raw. The adrenaline was starting to wear off, leaving exhaustion in its wake... it hurt, really hurt.
"Where did he go...?" his voice cracked from how dry his throat was, "The guy... we just shoved in. He's gone."
He floundered for a moment, leaning against the wall. His legs felt a little wobbly. He could still walk just fine of course, but, "The police... they're coming, aren't they?" again, directed at no one in particular, but he looked to both Jamie and Jeremiah when he spoke. It felt selfish to antagonize over it, be bitter about it, but it burned thinking they were so close and there was still a chance they could lose everything they worked for.
Well, not lose. They were all alive, mostly in one piece... but he wasn't sure if it'd stay that way.

"I- Well-" Algie seemed to be attempting to straight his shirt. He was slashed, strangled, limping and had hog-tied a couple were-beasts and now someone decided to recognize him. "Yes, well.." He stammered only a moment, before putting on his polite smile, "Yes I am. And the store is called Bibliophile." Yep, now was a good time to keep walking downstairs.

Distracted by his conversation with Jeremiah, Jamie had temporarily focused, blocking out what had gone on around them, refusing to give himself time to think about the consequences of what they'd done or the real weight of what they still had to do. The blinders came right the ******** off when he heard Shiloh's voice, though, heard the way it cracked. In an instant his focus was redirected, his heart leaping into his throat. Shiloh had been one of the ones to send the alpha through the portal to Other Ashdown, but that was also far from Jamie's mind right now. What really mattered was his friend.
"S-Shiloh...!" he called, wordlessly excusing himself from his previous conversation, though he wasn't going far, he'd still be able to hear. He was just going to Shiloh's side, because seeing him slump against the wall only worried Jamie further. Was something wrong? Had something else happened to him in the confrontation with the rouge weres?
That's when his eyes hit the injury, blood staining Shiloh's shirt even worse than it had his now discarded jacket. It wasn't new, but the sight of it made Jamie remember and a twinge of pain forced him to think of his own wound enough that he hissed in discomfort. Not that it stopped him from going forward. Nothing else was said at first as he wrapped his arms around Shiloh without any warning, returning the hug from before like it was a promise they'd made.
Finally he was able to find his voice again. "I-I'm glad you're o-okay..." he huffed, sounding so relieved. They still had things they needed to do, but it felt for a brief moment like they'd made it out of a burning building unscathed. I was scared, he thought to himself, but couldn't get the words out.

Oh. That wasn't really an answer to any of his questions, but it was a response all the same. Definitely not the one he was expecting though.
Jamie's voice, warbling and concerned, he expected that. Jamie coming over to him? Yeah, made sense. He tried to force a small smile on his face—something lopsided and sloppy but genuine—but the muscles in his face refused to cooperate, only twitching slightly. He lost that urge to grin when Jamie hissed in pain, eyes immediately drawn to the shreds in his shirt.
He couldn't look at it for long though, because suddenly there were arms around him and it was warm. For a second, Shiloh tensed, but in the next... he melted, mellowed. It was only Jamie after all, and technically he was the one who started it. It was only fair that Jamie return the gesture, even if it was belated. Shiloh couldn't say he minded.
"I'm pretty tough..." his voice was still weary with exhaustion, but Shiloh was still standing after all. "You too, y'know. Lot more than you look." those scratches along Jamie's chest looked a lot worse than the wound on his shoulder felt. Maybe it was his new found form as a... whatever he was? Were? That's what they were calling them, right?
For all Shiloh cared, Jamie was still human. Rightfully so.
He still hesitated on hugging back. Instead, his injured arm carefully wrapped around Jamie's smaller frame, his good one reaching up to yank the beanie off of his head. His hair instantly frayed outwards, but it wasn't like anyone else here looked like a goddamn model.
He slapped it right onto Jamie's head without a word, tucking the animal ears on his head under them.
"S'probably a good look for you." he cracked, maybe the hint of a laugh in his voice as he tried to situate it. He couldn't see Jamie because now both his arms were hugging him and... it made him feel weak. Weak and vulnerable and open to the elements, showing this softer side like this—and around so many people—but... he couldn't help it.
He was weak. But maybe for now, that was okay.

"Hi," says Lady. She is very tall and very still and the shadows beneath her eyes are a deep, dark blue as she looks down at Masha. "Sorry I'm late. What did you need?"

Every now and then, Shun would glance back to see if the rest were making any progress for what to do with the rest of the werefolk. After Lady had appeared, he had to do a double take, because there now was a very tall red headed woman who definitely wasn't there before.
"Where..." he started, just sort of staring at her.

It was a relief in some areas, and a great source of stress in others, to see Lady appear... and she looked exhausted, which added an extra layer of concern to Eve's emotional state. "Lady, the fifth one -- do you know if he's alright?" She wasn't sure who had called the girl here, but it was something Eve desperately wanted to know.

"I'm not that tough..." And that was true, but Jamie had proven he could stand strong when he needed to, even if it was on wobbling legs. The only saving grace in this whole situation would be not having to do that for a while, and he could only hope that's exactly what would happen, though there was no way of knowing just yet. It would be nice to relax and be weak and not worry about much of anything aside from making sure his fish were fed.
"Okay," he relinquished. "Maybe a little tough." A laugh tried to accompany his words, though it sounded strained and died in his throat as soon as the hat made it onto his head. To be honest, that was something he definitely wasn't expecting.
"W-What...?" One hand left Shiloh's back to touch at his own head, feeling the unfamiliar fabric beneath his fingertips. It was only a hat, nothing more impressive than that, but in that moment it felt like one of the greatest gifts he'd ever gotten. "You... you think?" he asked, sounding a bit baffled. "Can I... really wear it?"
Whatever the answer would be, a voice closer than Jamie could ever expect startled him out of his starry-eyed thoughts. His head snapped over, then snapped up. Lady was nothing if not impressively tall.
"L-Lady...!" he bubbled, letting go of Shiloh with reluctant slowness. "I..." It's not as if he hadn't been expecting her at some point, but her sudden presence was a surprise either way. "We... um... Everyone else t-took care of the, uh, moonwalkers who were attacking people... They're all tied up, and uh, the o-one who we think started everything he..." Jamie looked down at his feet. "He was sent through a portal..."
Shifting back and forth a bit, he continued. "B-But now the police are coming and w-we need a way to get, um, everyone out safely..." That's what they were doing, right? The conscious and cognitive weres could probably get themselves out alright with a little ingenuity, but Jamie assumed no one was quite sure what do to with all of the unconscious and uncooperative ones.
When Eve spoke up, Jamie glanced over at her, too. "A-And um... I'd like to know that, too. I-If he's okay, I mean... If you know..."

Jeremiah blinked and shook his head at Krasnya, not quite surprised to see her appear just like that. Not that he really said hi or anything, instead just inclining his head and offering her a gesture of his fingers in greeting. It was an old habit. The others around him, they were asking the questions that needed to be asked. That meant he did not need to say a word. Jamie was given a reassuring nod and a small smile.

"The fifth moonwalker is downstairs," says Lady, brow furrowing. "...Not that there aren't six more here, but... what are you talking about? Put the fifth through a portal?" She looks then to the other moonwalkers. "I can open a portal back," she says. "But you'll have to be quick about sending them through, and it won't help them. It'll just keep them from humans."
