"It is instinctive..." Lin commented flatly.

The issue was with a sword, a real one and not a fake one. Even without Amora ever really realizing what was thrown at her, she could or couldn't grab on it depending if it was a real sword.

Lord Elwin nodded and held his wooden sword tightly in his hand. "Indeed. Now, Princess, if you would pick it up, please ..."

Amora nodded and knelt to pick up the sword. She hesitated, her hand hovering just above it, then forced herself to reach down and close her fingers about the handle.

"Um ... now what?" she asked shakily, holding it loosely as she straightened once more.

Lord Elwin smiled and spread his arms. "Hit me."

Lin blinked again, even though she was worried more about Amora, she couldn't help wonder what sort of theory Lord Elwin had. Actually she was just dumbfounded at his instructions.

"Hit you?"

Her mind was running miles a minute sorting through everything she had been told yesterday, trying to figure out what sort of conclusion the man would have come up with.

Lord Elwin nodded. "Hit me. Do your honest best."

Amora looked at the blade in her hands, and her face paled slightly. "I can't do that ... you're not even armed ..."

"I've got a sword," he reminded her, holding up the wooden sword. "Now hit me."

Well he did have a good pint, he did have that, though it was going to end up nicked by the time it was over Lin thought. She remained silent though not sure what exactly he was planning or wanting to demonstrate for that matter.

Amora was frozen. She couldn't even tighten her hand enough around the handle to lift the sword for an attack, let alone actually try to hit him.

"I can't," she whispered, her eyes wide and filled with fear.

"Yes, you can," Lord Elwin said firmly. Without warning, he raised his sword and thrust at Amora's chest. She was taken so by surprise that her reaction was late, and though she tried to knock it aside, it hit her arm instead.

Lord Elwin just nodded. "See? You do have it in you. Now come on, let's try this again."

"Go ahead Amora, it'll be fine," Lin assured her.

It wasn't like he was going into this recklessly and he was obviously expecting something. It was also quite obvious that Amora still retained reflexes despite her issues with the sword.

Amora swallowed and nodded, forcing her fingers to close around the handle of her sword. Suddenly, Elwin attacked again, and this time Amora was able to deflect it perfectly, though she found herself off-balance by the suddenness of it all.

"You're not attacking me," Elwin said with a frown.

"You're not giving me a chance," Amora gasped in reply. She squeaked a bit, deflecting yet another blow.

"I am giving you ample opportunity," the young lord corrected her. "You are not pressing it."

Lord Elwin glanced at Lin and smiled. "You know, this is the first time I've even seen her hold a sword," he confided while he waited for Amora to be ready. "She's always refused until today."

Amora frowned. "That's because I want to know what happened, and you won't tell me until we go through all of this," she said stubbornly. "Unless you'll just tell me now and then we can stop."

She didn't see what the difference was between a wooden sword and a real one, she didn't like either of them - though she would readily admit that a real sword was much harder for her to control. At least, so she would claim. Though as seen only moments before, her control was clearly not her problem.

"I don't think we'll get the full point unless you finish this," Lin told Amora honestly.

This was getting interesting, Yukito had always told her about mental blocks, Vincent had warned her about mental blocks citing they could end a fighter's career unless dealt with, but this was probably the first time she had seen an example of one. At least she was pretty sure at this point Amora was exhibiting all signs that suggested a mental block.
