Well it certainly seemed like Mec was giving it her all now. That was a good thing; the more energy she spent, the more exhausted she would be, and the easier she would sleep. It certainly seemed like Scabbers could use a break, he obviously didn't have the energy his charge had. "Okay, sweetie!" She said to the little filly at the mention of a safe zone.

She kept her pace even, right behind the filly and just able to touch her, but refrained from doing so. She figured it'd be a good idea to let her reach Scabbers first, as that would rid her of more energy. Hmm... "Better hurry up then, sweetie, or else ah'll catch yeh!" She said with a grin, tossing her head to throw her mane to the other side of her neck. "And ah can almost reach yeh!"

What was this, Miss Elsie about to tag her? Yipes! With another little snort the filly pressed herself harder to get away, her legs moving swiftly in little quick bursts with as much as she could muster at the moment. She really didn't want to lose the game now, not after finally tagging the mare and being so close to the safe zone. Luckily, for some reason, she hadn't been tagged yet, and quickly the filly dashed over to Scabbers.

The zrun once more found an easy resting position, his eyelids laying heavily and halfway down his vision. Man, he hoped Mec would let him sleep tonight, for certainly the filly should be tired out by now. However, it was the sound of galloping hooves that brought his head up from his light napping, and of course what did he see? Mecriana nearly plowing into him. Of course, this caused the Zrun to scramble to his feet, ears twisted forwards and bushy tail hanging low. "Mec?! Geez girl, aren't cha tired yet?" That had given him the scare of his life.

"Safe!" the filly gasped once she came to a stop, her sides heaving as she panted for air. Of course, such a thing didn't last long as it was replaced by a wide grin. "I'm safe!" she giggled up to the Bae mare, her icy eyes warm and bright. Slowly though, she did happen to hunker down to her belly, for her legs simply refused to carry her any longer. Man, she was tired.

The small Bae chuckled as she halted besides Mec, nodding her head. "Yeah, yer safe now," she said, then carefully folded her gray limbs beneath her. She shook her head a bit, trying to move the forelock out of her eyes after it had so annoyingly decided to fall there, then smiled at both the paintaloosa foal and her little Zrun friend.

"Are ye tired, sweetie?" She inquired of the foal, eying her with a grin. It would certainly be amusing to hear Mecriana argue over such a question when she had nearly collapsed onto the soft grass from exhaustion. "D'ye want t' go t' sleep now, suga'?"

Hmm... Maybe she should sweeten the deal? Nah, not yet, she decided. If the tired foal succumbed to the tug and pull towards sleep, that would be good. However, if she still refused to sleep, Elsie would have to break out a bedtime story for the stubborn Mec. But which one? Hmm...

Tired? Her? Well, she was pretty tired, but with such interesting company around she didn't really want to fall asleep just yet either. "Naw, I'm not tired Miss- Mi.." her voice broke softly as her maw opened to give a long, sleepy yawn. "Miss Elsie." Gently the filly had laid her head on the ground to sprawl out a bit more, her tail flicking in a slow whispy movement. Obviously she was fairly sleepy, but if anyone asked her she was still wide awake.

Scabbers could not believe his ears. Mec certainly seemed tired to him, and boy did he wish she would admit, for last time they had gotten into an arguement he ended up playing 'pounce' with her for nearly an hour before she fell to sleep in exhaustion. Such a resourceful little filly she was, he wasn't quite sure where she found that energy to go on but he certainly didn't have it. With a yawn of his own the Zrun gave a regarding bob of his head to the Bae mare before allowing himself to drop down to his belly beside Mec; for the third time finding a comfortable spot to lay down in.

Elsie watched through her stubborn forelock the tired filly continue to argue over how sleepy she was, and the Bae mare let out a warm chuckle. "Ah can tell that ye ain't sleepy one bit," she teased, flicking her silky tail. Hmm... Well, the little Mec seemed like she could fall asleep at any minute. But what if she still refused to sleep? Hmm...

"Would ye like t' hear a bedtime story?" The gray mare asked, leaning over to nudge Mec's shoulder very gently. Which story should she tell the little filly? Hmm... Something that involved magic, that was for certain, that would hold the filly's attention. But what story? Well, maybe the little paintaloosa would request a specific story, or ask for certain types of characters, or maybe even a plot. Well, she would cross that stream when she came to it. "Do ye want me t' pick one, or did ye have a specific one in mind?"

A story? The little filly's ears perked up as she heard the suggestion. She hadn't been a story before, but her father had said he would eventually; that before he left in the game of tag though. Hmph, who needs him anyway? It was a sour thought but it was quickly wiped away once her mind was back on subject. "Could you pick Miss Elsie? I haven't heard a story before", she spoke eagerly now, despite the fact her little head was still placed upon the ground by her hooves.

Scabbers himself was nearly about to fall asleep, but he figured it would be rather interesting to hear exactly what kind of story this Nequus would tell his little Mec. Hey, if the filly liked it he could always try it on her later the next time he was trying to get her to go to sleep. That ought to do it. Blinking sleepy eyes the Zrun fixed his gaze upon the filly to watch her reactions, though flicked his ears in the direction of the Bae to listen. This should be quite interesting to say the least.

Oh, there we go, that hooked her. She smiled, letting out a light chuckle, then lowered her head and voice. She had heard somewhere, though she couldn't remember where, that the best way to get someone to listen was not to be louder, but to talk softer. The quieter you spoke, the harder they had to listen to be able to hear what you had to say. "Okay darlin', we'll fix that problem right now," she said with a smile. Poor filly. She hadn't ever heard a story before? Well, that was to change right now. "The story's called the Sand Nequus."

She cleared her throat before beginning, and somehow lost her way of speech in favor of a more formal tone for story-telling. How she managed to do so was a mystery, but it was hard for her not to revert back to her normal accent. "The Sand Nequus is a nequus, obviously, but it is a strange creature that no one alive today has seen. He has the traits of every breed of nequus: two horns, one Reya and one Ichsa; a strange tail, a mix of hair like you and I have, and the muscular tails of the Reya; and he has the strangest pair of wings you would ever hope to see, with the outline of the Reya and Aeri wings, but instead of the membrane stretched between the fingers he has butterfly wings like I have, and at the base there grows feathers like you have, and tendrils, like Ichsas have. His body is a pure, snow white, though he is covered in flecks of tan, silver, and gold, with eyes that change between those three colors. He's said to be a beautiful little creature." She paused a moment, to make sure her audience of two was listening, before she continued. "And the strangest part of all, is he's only about the size of a little bird, hardly bigger than yer nose, Mec," she said, losing the formal speech for the personal comment, smiling as she spoke.

"Now, the Sand Nequus, if you couldn't tell already, is a very magical creature, and he has a very special job. His job is to fly around to every creature, and when it's time for them to go to sleep, he flutters his strange wings very hard. When he does that, lots of special, magical dust floats down onto the eyes of the nequus that needs to sleep. This magical dust, when it settled onto the eyelids of the nequus, makes them yawn and become very sleepy, and they will almost instantly fall asleep," she said with a sage nod.

"They say that whenever someone yawns and gets sleepy, thatt he Sand Nequus is nearby, trying to sprinkle his magical dust onto their eyes so that they can sleep." When she finished she bowed her head a bit, hoping that they would get the hint her story was over. Hopefully, that would help Mec sleep.

A story about sleep? Now Mec had admit that made her all the more sleepy, not to mention near the end of the tale her eyes had started to get a bit a droopy. Was the Sand Nequus near? Could she see him? Tilting her head slightly to the side to it rolled in the grass she glanced up in the general area of the sky, but didn't see such a thing. Darn, she must have missed him. Ah well, she would find him tomorrow, she supposed. "I missed him this time Miss Elsie, I almost got to see him", she half-way mumbled in a sleepy tone.

Ahahahaha, low and behold not only was Mec nearly asleep, the Zrun himself had fallen to the spell of such a story. Then again, he was already exhausted from the days adventures, not to mention nearly falling asleep at least three times before while trying to find a place to lay down.

Lolling over the thought one more time, Mecriana allowed her eyes to finally close, not having the will to keep them open at half-mast for much longer. Though before she slipped off into sleep she did happen to mumble one more thing. "G'night Miss Elsie."

The small Bae smiled, studying the effects her story had had on both filly and friend. She let out a light chuckle at the comment Mec had made about missing the Sand Nequus, nodding her head, and she leaned over to gently nuzzle the filly. "Yea', yeh'll see him soon, sweetie. G'night." And with that, the gray mare settled into a more comfortable position, and laid her head down for the night, giving her translucent wings one last flutter before she succumbed to the world of sleep and dreams.
