It could have something to do with something I've read about at least two ba-freakin-jillion times which is the whole reason people believed that Pein was actually Yondaime. From questionable sources I've been told that Pein is a master of Genjutsu, and not just a little bit. Apparently, before Naruto and the gang find out about who he really is from Jiraiya, he uses this Genjutsu super power and makes everybody think he's actually Minato (Yondaime). I dunno what may have happened past that. Just that he kicks them all around...a lot.
