"Oh ... You want my blood? How about right now, brother?" Eiry held up his bleeding hands closer to Rivener's face, knitting his brows together. If his brother was going to use this power from his blood, then Eiry was ready to give all that he needed. If it meant that he wouldn't have to fight Edgar again, then that's all Eiry needed to hear to give anything to Riv.

On a rare moment of seriousness, Eiry said in a low tone, "Brother. Take it. As much as you need. I don't want to fight him again. Take it."

Rivener was startled to see how willing Eiry was to comply with the strange demand. He wasn't sure however, if just drinking the blood was enough... he thought the blood would have to be in his veins for it to work, and to do that he needed to figure out how to do one of those transfusion things that Dr K (a shiver ran through him at the thought of the doctor) had done.

"I'm not sure how to do it," he admitted. "I don't know if drinking your blood will work; maybe we need a real transfusion, and that's complicated." He sighed. "I was just asking to see if you'd be ok with it. As for how to do it... well, I don't know." He finished pulling out the glass, and poured a bit of alcohol on a cloth, to wash away the blood and ready the hand and arm for bandaging. Then, he could start on his own hand.

"What about putting my wound to yours?" asked Eiry in his innocent little brother voice, "If we don't do it now, that means we have to hurt me again later, right? How will we find out?" He winced once as Rivener plucked out another piece of glass and finally finished. He glanced at the collected pile of glass on the little cloth that they had picked up from the first aid box. When the alcohol came near and briefly touched his wound, Eiry let out a quick cry and jerked his hand away from Rivener.

Rivener startled when Eiry yanked his hand away, but he quickly recovered with a frown. "Come on, don't be a sissy. And if we put our wounds together it won't do any good, the blood doesn't go IN... We need a doctor with that weird T-shaped thingamajig..."

Rivener's eyes widened. He knew a doctor with one of those things! He looked Eiry in the eyes and grabbed his good hand tightly. "You want to help, you said so, right? There is a bit of hurt involved, but we can get it out of the way tonight, I think. Stay here," he said, and he dashed off to his room.

The minute he opened his door, he spotted it. He'd pinned it on the wall near the window, the business card of that really scary man... Riv floated over and removed the card from the wall, scared even to touch it. It was all brown with age, and there were some weird blood-like stains on it... "Dr K", Rivener whispered fearfully.

He was deathly afraid of the man, but he could help. Rivener would even deal with ths scary man, if it meant he could protect his family better from that damned ghost.

Riv floated back downstairs and dialed the number.

"Tonight? Can we? Brother... Where... What are you doing?" Eiry watched his brother disappear through the doors of the room and, not wanting to be left alone, Eiry followed. He floated after his brother, but he was weak and couldn't move too fast. By the time he got to the stairs, Rivener had floated by him and reached the phone. Floating after him, his ribbon catching on things on the floor, Eiry felt suddenly very tired. Floating slowly to the ground, he tried to pull himself up with the wall. This feeling was overwhelming and it completely sucked away his energy. Each and every breath got harder and it felt like he was breathing through a straw.

Rivener got an answering machine. Apparently this Dr K screened his phone calls? However, the message made Rivener's face blanch and he hardly was able to speak when the beep came. It was a generic woman's voice, the one which came with the voicemailservice. She said:

"The number you have dialed," cut to a recording of Dr K breathing hard through his mask into the receiver, and mumbling something that might have been a phone number, "is currently either busy or unavailable. Please leave a message after the tone."

*beep!*

Rivener gulped and spoke. "Err, D-dr. K? This is R-rivener. You helped me once when I was bleeding, with Dr Kyou and Lazarus... Erm, I need your help again, can you come over quickly? P-please? We're at 723 old Tree Road in Durem Caves North..." Rivener wasn't in the habit to be polite, but for Dr K it seemed unthinkable not to say please. "Bye!" Riv hung up the phone with a slam and turned to his brother. "Ok, I called... I hope he- EIRY!"

Rivener lunged forward as Eiry was collapsing. "What the hell!? What's going on! You're not bleeding that much!" He was reminded of his own still-bleeding wounds, but those would have to wait. "What's the matter?! Are you fainting from fear or something?! ANSWER ME!" He felt like shaking the younger Frei but thought better of it. Instead he slipped his arms around the other and floated him over to the living room couch, where he could lie down peacefully.

"I'm hungry," the minty green raevan muttered in a raspy voice as he was scooped up in Rivener's arms. That much was true. He hadn't eaten in a while since Isi was too busy to take him all the way to Deadwood to feed. Now with all this action, his partly formed body must've sucked away all the reserve energy he had left. The adrenaline could only last for so long and now that the danger had passed, Eiry began to feel the strain of hunger.

"Is he coming? The Doctor? That machine-scare told you where he was?" Eiry still had no real definition of what a phone did. He thought that it talked for people you wanted to talk to, not that it was a device you talked to people through. As he was placed in a corner on the couch, Eiry whined, "Brother, you're getting your blood all over me."

Rivener blinked at Eiry's statement. He suddenly realized he didn't know what Eiry ate! He knew he and Isi went to the park often, but for what purpose... "What can I get you to eat?" he asked, blushing a bit at having to admit that he didn't know this one crucial thing about his little brother.

"And yes," he added, "the Doctor will be coming. He wasn't there at the moment but I left a message... Hopefully he'll be around quickly. Nevermind about the blood, we'll clean you later; tell me what to get you to eat and I'll get it so you'll be ok, THEN I'll take care of my bleeding."

He was starting to feel the tiniest bit woozy himself, but he didn't want to take the time to treat himself before he got food for Eiry.

[Eiry gave his brother a worried glance, one that said 'It's nice that you care about me, but you are more important at the moment, so don't make any stupid decisions'. The minty frei didn't argue with his brother, though, he knew better than to do that.

"Death," Eiry said, completely serious, then he added as an after thought, "Like dead plants. Only from dead plants. But we don't have any dead plants here because Isi's a good gardener. That's why we go to the park. That's also why you should clean yourself up now instead of later."

Riv rolled his eyes at Eiry's look, but at least the younger boy didn't waste his time arguing with the stubborn Scorpion. When Eiry declared what he ate, though, Riv's expression changed to bafflement, and then suddenly to pleased remembrance. "Stay here!" he said, as though Eiry could dissapear any moment.

The Raevan flew upstairs to the painting room, where he and Aphi had their own private spaces... Here they'd often painted still lives from plants, and the one live plant they'd had, was forgotten on a windowsill and had long-since croaked. It wasn't much, but hopefully it might tide Eiry over until Riv pulled the glass out of his hands.

Riv grabbed the ceramic pot bearing the pitifully yellow and dry Fiddlehead plant, and he floated it downstairs. "Here," he said, placing the pot near his brother. "It's all I got. And NOW I'll tend my hands."

He tried to look all cool and under control as he floated to the first aid kit, but really he was feeling rather faint... He had to wrap these quickly, and until he did so he should stay out in the night air, absorbing energy so that he remained strong. "I'll be just out the door here, okay? Call for me if something happens," he said, starting to tweeze little bits of vial out of his palms.

"I think I'll follow you, brother. I don't want to be left alone," Eiry quipped nervously in his raspy voice. Lifting himself up from the couch took a bit more energy than he realized, so he sunk down in the air as soon as he pulled himself up. Reaching for the plant, he picked it up carefully between his gray ghostly hands.

"When did Isi and Aphi say they'd get back from the picture moving?" Obviously, the minty frei meant 'movies'. Floating near to the ground by the doorway, Eiry laid himself out on the hardwood floor, ribbon and all. The coolness of the wood felt nice and he restrained himself from trying to eat the death from that. He tried it once before and ended up with a stomach ache. Pulling the plant he had set on the ground to his face, he breathed in the death and began to absorb his food. Just like Rivener had said, it wasn't much. Within instants the plant was back to life, green and lively and happy. But Eiry's body still yearned for nutrients and energy. In fact, the little snackage provided by Rivener's plant made him realize how hungry he REALLY was.

A while later, a yellow cab skidded away from the pavement in a hurry, eager to get away from the creepy doctor as fast as possible. He even gave Dr.K extra change! Pocketing the coins in his stained lab coat's pocket, he turned around and proceeded towards the door of the old large house.

This is definitely somewhere different than the place where he last had his Raevan patient. More suited to his taste actually. He would love to have his warehouse workshop in somewhere more secluded like this.

Walking up the small flight of stairs, he knocked once on the white wooden door and waited for an answer.

Rivener had been about to answer his brother when he heard the taxi's screeching tires outside, and the knock. His eyes grew wide and his blood chilled.

"It's him," he announced ominously. He stayed rooted in place with terror, having to force himself to move after a minute. He floated to the front door and, fearful, opened it.

Hi face blanched nearly of all color when he saw the doctor was really there, a nightmare made flesh. And Riv was the one who invited him! He offered a nervous, terrified, almost hysterical smile.

"H-h-h-hello, Dr K.... P-please c-c-come in..." He got out of the way, almost hiding behind the door, staining the sides of the doorjamb with blood.

Picking himself up from the floor, Eiry pushed the now-living plant off to the side beside the door so no one would step on it. Forcing himself up in the air, Eiry floated after his brother. Why was he acting like this? He seemed .. What was it... Scared? No, that's impossible. My big brother is not afraid of anything! Eiry concluded with the nod of his head. Besides, the doctor couldn't be so terrible if doctor's were like Dr. Kyou. When he floated around the corner, using the wall to keep himself at a reasonable floating height, what little blood he had flushing his cheeks abruptly vanished.

"AGHHHHH!!!!" Eiry's scream tore out of his throat, and the first thing he did was turn tail and bolt away as fast as his weak little body could float. He went to the first safe place he could think of: The downstairs closet. Slamming himself inside so he was safe and snug with Isi's large coat collection, Eiry felt the energy drain out of his body again. Slumping low, Eiry let himself drop to the ground where he leaned against the wall amongst his coiled ribbon.

What was that? It was like... Edgar, but ... A MILLION times as scary! No wonder his big brother was scared of it! It looked like ... DEATH itself! Whimpering, Eiry tried to choke his whimpering to a quiet gurgle. He wouldn't want to be discovered by...by...That doctor!

Ignoring Rivener's painfully obvious tension upon seeing him, K stepped into the house. He inhaled long and loud, taking in the old musty smell of the old walls and floor. Yes, he definitely much prefer this place over the apartment he last treated the scorpion Raevan. It was then he heard the scream.

He jerked his head in the direction where it came from, and could only catch a glimpse of someone ran away behind the wall. Curious, K walked over to it and saw, though very faintly, a hint of green smoke trail. Squinting behind the gas mask, K followed the trail to a closed closet. His mask deathly close to the closet doors, his breathing loud and clear for anyone inside the closet to hear.
