Sen made a 'tchhh' noise. She might as well have just said, 'Oh, yeah, right!', because that's what one would read from her face. The cub had never realized it, but she was extremely expressive, and couldn't not be when she tried.
And in the next minute, they were in the graveyard, passing the skeletons of the dead and corpses that were not-so-skeletony just yet. Sen looked disgusted at the sight of them, but her eyes also looked sad.
"Come on, you can't be that old!" she tried again.

Riko tried hard not to change his pace when he realized with great delight that they had made it to the graveyard. He'd finally gotten there, and no one had come to stop him. He puffed up importantly and jogged along to keep up with the slow elephant's giant steps. The cub didn't seem to care about the grim surroundings, he barely understood them, though he gave no indication.
"How would you know?" Riko snapped insensitively, turning to glare at Sen and seeming totally oblivious to any saddness in her expression. He was obviously arguing for the sake of arguing, regardless of what the topic was. He might have felt some respect for the old elephant's knowledge and desire for peace, but certainly not with how things were at the time.

Sen's face scrunched up in disgust, but this time, she refused to acknowledge Riko's... Rikoness. He was so annoying, why couldn't it be him coming to the graveyard? Not that Sen would really wish death on anyone. Not this young, anyway.
She couldn't even grasp being so old you just didn't want to live anymore, which is why she thoughtlessly pestered her new, giant friend. "Anyway--"
"This is the spot," the elephant cut in. "Take care of yourselves cubs."
Sen stepped back as much as needed as he laid down. He looked even bigger all stretched out! Sen tilted her head, then snorted. "Come on, this place smells bad... Hey... Hey? HEY!"
He couldn't really have just... No way!

The change in Sen's expression was enough of a triumph for Riko, since she continued to fail at ignoring him entirely, so he turned back to watch the elephant. He started visibly when suddenly Hakajo declared they had arrived and laid down. Riko didn't know what to say, but he figured if this was where the elephant decided to lay down, now was the time to say something.
"Ummm," he hesitated, hopping out to look at the elephants tired eyes, "G'night."
It was simple, it was innocent and it was all the cub could think of to say.

Sen looked a number of things: Shocked, astonished, distressed. The mixture made her face look very awkward, and it would have been comical if the situation hadn't been the one it was.
"I can't believe it!" she wailed. He was really dead. He really, really, really was! Who would just go down that easy?!

Riko stared at the elephants eyes, waiting for him to suddenly wake up and claim he was just kidding around. It was useless to hope it, and the cub realized it quickly- though he gave it another moment just in case before he turned to Sen.
"Well, no point staying," he said lightly, glancing back over a the elephant before looking around, "Right here anyway." Maybe he'd go explore the graveyard while he was here- but how long had he been away from the den? Would anyone think he'd been away too long?

How could he just take it all so... so well like that?! "You're a freak!" Sen screeched at him, aware she was crying now but opting to ignore it. Explore? How could she just roam around like that?! "I'm going home!"
And, she took off before she'd even finished saying it.

Riko seemed to ignore the comment about being a freak, at least outwardly- and he looked back to the still body of the elephant. He wondered if he'd missed something- he wasn't acting much differently than the elephant had, after all. He wouldn't have realized Hakajo's peace with the situation came from wisdom, and Riko's own came from the lack of such knowledge and understanding. In Riko's view, the only one acting weird was Sen.
He looked back towards Sen much too late, but saw her heading off back towards the Pridelands. Not really caring, Riko looked up to the sky to try to judge how long this venture had taken and if anyone would be missing him. Deciding he didn't want to follow after Sen, he opted to explore right around here a little bit to delay his own return home enough to avoid seeing her again.
