Sticking his nose in the air, Shao took on an annoyed expression. "I don't owe him an explanation...to offer one would be to imply that I give him some authority over my comings and goings." Blowing a strand of crimson hair out of his eyes, he followed Alphonse's gesturing, nodding in agreement.

at least he rather liked water, Shao thought to himself, wondering idly if the fish were slow-moving, and if so...how good they'd taste baked, with some lemon-butter sauce. domokun

"...Training Room? I think I heard Clint mention it, but as with most of the things he says, I really wasn't listening..."

Alphonse smirked, turning his gaze from the man to the city lights again.

"Then let's check it out sometime. But I'm not a battler, really... my trainer isn't a battler anymore."

At least not that he knew. He didn't remember ever being sent into battle as of yet. Tired of sitting, he stood up to stretch and yawn lazily before pacing to the edge of the roof to look down.

"Oh, my. What a big drop." Then he turned to his companion, his smirk widening into a grin. "Wanna bet I can make that?"

Shao blinked, then smiled. "Well, you never will be without practice." he observed, inclining his head. He wasn't one either, but he'd certainly like to try his hand at it.

Getting to his feet as well, when Alphonse grinned, tone suggesting a dare, of sorts, Shao walked over to the edge of the roof, looking down at the way they'd come.

"If you break your neck, I hope you're not expecting me to carry you over the threshold like some sort of blushing bride." he drawled, tone obligingly disbelieving that the other could pull off the drop unharmed.

"And bet? What did you have in mind?" Eyeing the other's expression more closely, his own yellowy gaze narrowed. What on earth was he planning?

"Hm, I don't know... if I win, you will be my companion for a week." He'd almost wanted to say 'slave' just to see the expression on the man's face, but he decided against it at the last minute to prevent him from backing out.

"And if you win... hmm... I become your training partner. How's that sound?"

Either way, he'd win a new friend of sorts. Luring people into spending time with you over winning or losing a bet was fair game, anyway... nobody had said that was against the rules!

Tilting his head to the side, Shao thought it over, debating what, precisely, a 'companion' might entail. He'd ask, if he wasn't almost positive that the other would simply smirk and refuse to answer anyway. On the other hand, if Alphonse chickened out or didn't pull it off...he'd have a captive training partner.

Nodding once, having made his decision, he motioned with his hand, gesturing loosely at the ground. "Alright, have at it--bet's on." he said, shifting his weight from foot to foot. Much as he'd like to win this particular bet, he didn't want the other to get hurt, after all.

The feline gave his companion a dramatic bow as if thanking him for such a cordial invitation, smirking as he did so. "Allow me, then."

Of course, it was very high... and not even a cat with all his nine lives could brag about being able to make it safe and unscathed, but he had a plan. Positioning himself on the very edge of the rooftop, he gave a step forward to leave the roof, reaching out to grab the rail of one of the balconies from the floor immediately below. He dangled there for a bare second before he let go and swung over to the next balcony, a floor down. From there on, the drop was pretty safe.

So, he made one final leap down to the floor, landing on his feet and then lowering himself to a crouching position to reduce impact, and remained there for a moment. Once he stood up, he looked up with a triumphant grin.

"Made it."

Restraining himself, Shao avoided gaping like a fish in amazement...and, he had to confess to himself, a certain degree of envy in the other's ease of movement in having pulled that off.

Inclining his head, although he couldn't resist wrinkling his nose, Shao acknowledged his loss.

"I do believe you're crazy, you know that?" he queried, expression shifting slightly as he realized that now he needed to figure out a way to get down.

"Maybe. But sane people never got too far, if you ask me." Those strange people in the laboratory were living proofs, though he never wanted to go that far. He looked up with a wide grin, his tail flicking happily behind him.

Poor Shao, now he was the one that was stuck. Alphonse placed his hands to the sides of his mouth to amplify his voice as he called out to him from the ground. "Do you need help getting down, or do you want me to catch you?"

Though, he hoped the man wouldn't jump. He wasn't physically strong, and it'd be a bit of a distressing situation for both.

Shao chuckled, the sound unfamiliar, and even a bit rusty.

"Depends on where you plan on heading, I suppose." he retorted.

"No...I think I can manage it." Hopefully...and preferably without anything needing mending, in the end. Getting a firm grip on the edge of the roof, he lowered himself, feeling about for a foothold. That accomplished, he reached for the vines that they'd used to ascend, his trip downward far easier...and, disregarding a few minor slips, rather more graceful, if he did say so himself.

"See? Piece of cake."

"Ah, that was very good! And it's harder to come down than climb up, good work!" His compliment came along with a couple of light pats on the head. Of course, he had to rise to his tiptoes to reach.

Once that had been done, he crossed his arms behind his head and turned towards the mansion once more. Bedtime? Not likely, not for him. But he could still listen to music, perhaps, on that strange little machine his trainer had left at his room.

... or maybe he'd make the zangoose accompany him for the night.

"Alright, enough stargazing for tonight. What should we do next? I'm not sleepy at all."

Shao grimaced. "I'm not some sort of pet dog, to be patted on the head, you know." he grumbled, although the praise that had accompanied the head-patting was okay by him, of course.

Brushing a strand of hair out of his face, Shao eyed the meowth curiously.

"I can't say I'm feeling tired yet, either." he mused, tapping one slender finger lightly on his chin.

"We could always go try our hand at...fishing." he suggested on an impulse--ignoring the fact that catching anything was that much harder in the dark.

Alphonse's eyes seemed to glow at the suggestion. Ah, fish... fish was delicious, and sweet, and always a good midnight snack! Clasping his hands together, he grinned and gave the taller man a nod.

"I'd be more than delighted. I'm sure they won't mind if a fish or two are gone from the pond."

After all, it wasn't like the owner of the mansion came around that often.

He grabbed Shao's arm to lead him (or more like, drag him) towards the pond, which was more than a few feet away from the house but still far enough from the wall. "How do you like your fish? Fried? Stewed? Butter-and-lemon'ed? How much of a gourmet are you?"

Shao smiled, teeth flashing in the dark. "And even if they do, unless there's cameras, they won't know who did it now, will they?" Fresh fish sounded miiiiighty good, in his opinion.

"I like fish almost any way you can make them...I think. I can't remember for sure, and it's not as though my...trainer has given me much opportunity yet to experiment."

His mind was already a step ahead, pondering how they could best catch some of said fish. "What about you?"

"My favourite would be... mm, raw and wriggling." He grinned as he walked, folding his arms behind his head. After a pause, he shook his head and glanced over his shoulder at the other male. "Nah, just kidding. I like them best when they're baked. You know, you wrap them in that shiny paper thing and put them over the fire." He didn't remember the name of that shiny paper, but it wasn't important.

"Oh, just... one thing. I really hate water. So I'd rather avoid climbing into it to fish, if I may... but you can do it for me, can't you?" Alphonse was excused. He was a feline, after all! But Shao? He was the manly, cool, immune-to-everything type, wasn't he?

Shao blinked. Ohhhh no...

"You don't like water?" The question was asked with an almost malicious gleam in the zangoose's eye.

"Are you sure? ...I mean, have you ever even tried getting into it?" Again, his expression was carefully schooled into one of polite, if somewhat innocent, curiosity--however, his eyes were decidedly mischievious; a new expression for the zangoose.

"But, I suppose if you really can't take it, I can make up for your shortcoming." he offered, tone carefully patronizing. Perhaps a surprise bath was in order, yessss?
