Lizzy swam up to Smee and rolled to float on her back, letting the little otter crawl onto her belly and watch the happenings around them. She sighed and rolled her eyes, it looking like Jack was causing trouble yet again. She kept her paws around Smee so he wouldn't go shotting off to get involved.

(( Sorry it's taken so long to reply; I haven't been replying much to any of my RPs. School started and then my dog...and well, I just haven't been feeling up to snuff. But I promise I'll try and be better about these things. ._. ))
A spray of bubbles left Scupper'd's tiny maw and broke the surface, his snout wrinkled with determination at avenging his captain's name. And he would've gotten his revenge, too, had it not been for Maria's own captain! The little otter didn't respond particularly well to Barbossa's castigation, and once he was done reeling he immediately shot up and champed his little pearls at the elder captain's paw. He had been caught in the moment, honest!
"Put 'em away, kit," Jack drawled from across the shore. He reluctantly removed his own effects with a melodramatic sigh, stacking them next to the bag Scupper'd had left behind. With a small shake an a small-fanged grimace at the water, he finally slipped in and leisurely swam towards the others.
"Is that how ye raise your kids, Barbossa?" he asked, unintentionally dunking his own charge beneath the water as he pushed for purchase. "Kids should be nurtured and whatnot." He said this all with a mock sage-like quality to his otherwise lackluster tone, and waved his free paw towards Elizabeth.
"It's really a woman's job, but times are changin', mate."
Scupper'd, meanwhile, flailed uselessly beneath the water.

Maria gasped when the other little otter bit her captain and looked to see Barbossa's reaction. All the fun was gone for the moment. She knew when her captain was angry and knew he was close to his limit of idiots.
Hector's eyes narrowed and he ever so slightly barred his teeth at Jack.
"You always were one to jump to conclusions, Jack. I'm not raising the flea. If anything, she's learnin' a trade on her own. I'm surprised your little tag-along isn't dead by now. What with your foolish attitude and you drownin' him as you're doin' right now," he sneered back, flexing the bit paw. Without another word, he swam back to the bank and shook himself before flopping down on the rock he had used to get up into the tree. If Mar knew what was good for her, she'd get out, too. But he wasn't going to suggest anything. Let her learn her own lessons, that was his idea.

Elizabeth kept Smee close, floating on her back and she started to groom the top of his head to calm him down, glad it had the desired effect of hism going slightly limp on her belly, her paws still wrapped around him

Maria followed her captain out of the water, walking up to the rock he lay on. She paused to shake herself off before walking a bit more slowly to him. She climbed up onto the rock and crouched down, trying to be eye-level with Barbossa.
"Cap'n...?" she asked softly, timid a definite change from her normal bubbly attitude.
Hector looked up when Mar approached him, sighing when she acted all timid and almost scared like that. He considered his options and found he really didn't have much of a choice.
"Mar, I'm not angry at you. You can stay up here if you want, but you can always go back down and play with your little friend," he whispered and, seeing as how Mar was between him and Jack, gifted her with one of his rare, sincere smiles. Of course he was raising Maria! He was really all she had. Then again, he wouldn't admit to playing the father, not even to himself, really. He was her captain, and for now, that was enough.

Jack gave a vague blink and hastily removed his paw, to which Scupper'd bobbed up like a buoy, dazed. The little cub shook himself to life and ran his tiny paws over his head and whiskers in self-check. It really wasn't the first time Jack had done something like this to him - not the exact same thing, but similar. The otter had tired out his petulant glares on his captain, though, figuring he just had a God awful memory; at least he hoped. When he turned his gaze on Jack next, he was patted roughly over the head. He spluttered as he went under again.
Was that supposed to be affectionate?
Scupper'd gave his forepaws a wily wave, and splashed water at the Captain.
"Well, tha's it!" he laughed, dangling his paw for the small otter to catch. "If ye wanna lock horns, c'mon then, tike!"
Jack ducked underneath the water and butted his head against the cub, sending him paws over tail through the air; the tiny otter squealed uselessly and hit the river with a 'plop'! He gathered his wits and gnashed his little teeth, and wriggled after his laughing Captain.
Sparrow wove through the water leisurely, rolling through the river's embrace as easy as breathing. Though he had been malcontent to enter, once he was in there was no getting him out. Drawing his paws inwards, he turned his head to catch a glimpse of his charge's progress, only to see a look of horror on the kit's face; he was flashing his limbs like a madman.
Jack blinked and turned around, slamming headfirst into Elizabeth's back.

Elizabeth basically tuned everything out as she got into a comfortable position so she was floating on her back while holding onto the curled up Smee on her chest, occasionally grooming at his small ears. She was close to dozing off herself when she felt something slam into her back and let out a wail of a yelp/squeal and she ended up rolling and flailing about, dropping Smee.
Poor Smee was happily dreaming of catching fish and playing tag with his friends when he was woken up to feel water rushing into his nose and Elizabeth's frightened squeals and he flailed about as well, not knowing what was up or down, left or right.

Maria whipped around when she heard Miss Elizabeth shriek, running for the water when she saw the pair flailing in the water. She was about to jump in and help when a cream, white, and brown blur rushed by her, her captain's tail gently knocking her back a bit before he dived into the water.
Hector saw Elizabeth falter and knew something was wrong when the pair thrashed in the water. Not to mention Smee's cries. He leaped off the rock behind Mar, streaking by her and diving in before he would let her join the fray. No doubt Jack had something to do with this, but he would deal with him later. Little Smee and Elizabeth came first.
He swam straight for Smee, latching onto the scruff of his neck and pulling him to the surface and towards the bank. Mar hopped about anciously until Hector deposited her friend on a rock protruding into the water from the bank and went back for Elizabeth, all in mere heartbeats. He used his paws to try and calm her flailings, nudging her back mostly.

Smee's panicked more when he felt his scruff being pulled on and he tried to fight whoever was trying to take him away from Elizabeth. He calmed down when he was put on the bank and suddenly Maria was there and he looked about anxiously, "Elizabeth, Elizabeth!!" he called out, looking ready to hop into the water to go help her.
Elizabeth slowly calmed down when she felt someone nudging her and she got herself under control, righting herself in the water. She panted a little bit, looking about frantically for Smee.

As Elizabeth flailed about, Jack had tried to calm her as well, but only managed a few nonsensical strings of babble, paws flailing in a mimicry of the others. He looked little more than bewildered, jaw slung open as he mimed in the air.
"Tike's all right, Lizzie," he said, trying his most charmingly apologetic tone; it would have been a mite convincing had it one, not come from him, and two, had not had the underlying humor. He waved flippantly towards shore. "The chivalrous Captain Barbossa came to his rescue."
He gave his goatee a thoughtful stroke, leaning the aforementioned captain's way with a look of skepticism, "Tha's new for you, isn't it? Valiance and the like?"
There may have been a hint of biting with his words, but as always with the infamous Sparrow, it was hard to tell.
Scupper'd crept away from the larger otters and slithered to shore, dragging himself out all hodge-podge. He gave a thorough shake and bounded towards Maria and Smee, completely nonplussed by the accident.
"Tha' wuss great, wunnit?" A shrieking peal of laughter left him as he waggled his tail, eyes bright with mischief.

At finally spotting Smee, safe and unharmed, on shore, she calmed down and floated in the water, catching her breath. She growled at Jack as she turned to look at him, narrowing her eyes, "If it wasn't for you, it wouldn't have happened in the first place!!" she screeched at him.
Smee hadn't found it fun at all and he laid himself down, trying to calm his furiously beating heart.

Hector surfaced when Elizabeth did, managing to catch Jack's words. Oh, he noted the slight bite in his words and he just smiled slyly back.
"Not exactly, Jack. Seems like I'm always fixin' your mistakes," he retorted, his paw touching Elizabeth's once more before he swam back to the bank, climbing up a little ways away from the trio of little otters. He glanced over the make sure Smee was okay before shaking the water from his clothes and returning to his rock to lie down. He really did want to beat the daylights out of Jack for being such a fool, but he'd do that another time, when Mar and Elizabeth and Smee weren't around.
Maria frowned at Scupper'd before lying down as well, putting her head on top of Smee's.
"It wasn't great at all! Miss 'Lizabeth and Smee coulduve been really hurt! Your cap'n needs to watch where he's goin'," she shot back, glaring at the other mini otter.
