Yes, but Ami also wouldn't tattoo a Chasid who came into his shop.

Oh, I didnt see that episode.... I know that there was once a jewish woman who got something in hebrew on her foot...

She wasn't claiming to be Orthodox/observant. I suspect that the impulse was different.

ohh....... okay.....

That is, the woman's impulse in getting a tattoo. Also, Ami's impulse in giving her one, but in refusing one to the Chasid who came in. I once skipped chemistry class and walked down to the choir room, where I offered to help my choir director catalogue some new music he'd just gotten in. He didn't want to let me; he said I should just go back to chemistry class. I told him, "If I leave here, I'm not going to chemistry. I'll just walk home." I was not an "observant, orthodox" student. He accepted my help.

Two years later, I again offered him help in finding lost or misfiled copies of music among the files. He asked me if I had a free period, and I said no, I'm supposed to be in a class. He said, "Go back to class." At that point in my high school career, I was an "observant" student. I sheepishly went back to class.

Looks to me like Ami was accepting the woman as a customer because he knew that if he didn't, she'd just go to someone else, someone who wasn't as good at tattooing as he is. But by refusing the Chasid and explaining why, he was reminding the Chasid, "Look, you say you live by these words, this Torah. Do you really, or don't you? You have to decide where your commitments lie." The Chasid knew he was right, and when Ami refused him, almost assuredly didn't seek out another tattoo artist.

I really want to see Miami Ink. I think Darren Brass is cute. Which is odd, cause he normally isn't my type (its the abundance of big ugly tattoos), but he has such a nice smile.. biggrin
