I have no problem with the actual taking of the blood or the needles part. It's just my veins are buried in my arm apparently.
I had the worst time with IVs through my pregnancy and then shortly after when I was diagnosed pregnancy induced pancretitis in my 5 week postpartum (I'd had it for awhile but they had said it was indigestion).
My right inside elbow is the only place a nurse can ALWAYS hit, it's apparently the only easily visible vein. So during my labor I had my pitocin drip in my elbow crook, which is pain in the a** place to have it. Then the best nurse I ever had, Carmen (I remember her name even), moved it for me to my hand when I was in post-partum for my antibiotics for my tear. She looked and said, "well I see a shadow, would you like me to try?" and bam she hit it the first time.
When I went back to the hospital (ER) for my gallbladder, I had an IV for morphine because it hurt so bad and for fluids because I couldn't eat for the week while I was waiting for the inflamation to go down. The DAY of my surgery the nurse un hooked my IV and then the fluid wouldn't go in.
So, I have like six anesthesiologists in post-op sticking me in my foot, and my leg, in my hand and then they freaked me out and said "Well if we can't find a spot we're going to have to put it in your neck." They eventually got it into my other elbow.
After my surgery I went for blood tests to check my Liver Function to see if the gallstones were all gone and the lady couldn't draw blood she said my veins were traumatized.
And people wonder why I don't donate blood.
