"The thought of suicide is a great consolation; one can get through many a bad night with it." --Nietzsche
Ah, yes, the pulling of the old Nietzsche card. I'm a psychology student in college. I'm one who sees themselves as other than human. I'm one who attempted suicide, and I'm one who still gets self-destructive urges.
I don't think thinking about suicide is inherently bad. For people like me, though it doesn't serve a higher purpose as stated before, it is all that can pull us through those darker nights. Though I can state now I wouldn't try it again, I will admit that I still contemplate it. Not as a "I can run away from this if I want to," but as a "I'm making the choice to live."
Now, back to the original purpose of this thread. Boy, can I relate! And here I was thinking I was alone in that feeling, that longing. It can be really hard to deal with, but I've learned that I'm here for a reason...I allow myself the time to grieve and to long for what I'm missing, but not to the point where I will harm myself or compromise my life here.

Wings of Aegis Oh, I know they would... sweatdrop As a matter of interest, what College do you go to? I go to Brunel University in London, England, and I study Social Anthropology, which usually includes detailed assessments of certain aspects of psychology, especially evolutionary psychology.

Social Anthropology looks really interesting! I've taken a few Evolutionary Psychology classes...great stuff. I'm more into the odder areas, like states of consciousness, and of course abnormal psych. heart

My most well received essay I've written thus far critically assessed the entire strain of evolutionary psychological thought. But hey, you know what they say. Know your enemy.

I'm University of the Pacific (Stockton, California, USA), declared Computer engineering major,
Contemplating: Biology, Biochemistry, Communications (emphasis in public relations), Psychology (behavior analysis), Philosophy, Religion, Sociology (criminology)... and I think that is the least of ideas that Im being torn between right now.
Though I will also say I think this thread has started a deviation process.

Well, I'm starting this fall at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I'll probably major in Biology or Biotech, minor in Spanish. I plan to go on to forensic pathology, though.
And I'll agree with Khalida on this one. But I couldn't resist.

Going into second year at the University of Glasgow for Computing Science as a major (as you guys call it), did EngLit and Philosopy last year and despised them both. No idea what other subject I'm taking this year, but I know fo sho I'm taking CompSci to the end.
And yes, this thread has very definitely underwent subject mutation. 'o'

'o' What's funnier is that even though it has been identified, we are now just talking about how the subject has changed... not how to get it back on track...
