Cloudchaser was having the increasing suspicion that he was to go to the beach regardless of his own feelings or thoughts on the matter. He lowered his amber eyes and a small smile graced his features for a moment. It was hard to argue with his aunt when she was in such a decisive mood anyway, besides it had been far too long since he had truly admired both the sea and his cousin's gift. No doubt Zeta was quite capable of being left alone a while. It might do him some good even, a chance for unsupervised meditation.
"I would be honoured to join you, of course." He replied thankfully. He watched with a fond expression in his golden eyes as Wavedancer energetically bounced over and offered Iota the pit of the mango as a gift. Her gracious acceptance made the cub bounce even more as she suggested going to plant it and then the beach.
"Really Aunt Iota? Oh please oh please!" The young cub enthused, running little circles around her aunt's feet in excitement. "Oh! Wait!" she paused, dashing off to recover her ball and returning, thrusting the toy into Cloudchaser's arms. The older male took it gingerly and with a small amount of confusion. He regarded it for a moment as the cub returned to Iota's feet and hopped up and down, arms extended in a childish request to be lifted.
Alpha placed the generous basket down near the pile of furs in the main area of the hut near the fire that Eta favoured as a resting place. Satisfied, he nosed past the curtain and into the sleep area to check on his mate. Still she slumbered soundly, though at his soft approach her soft eyes opened slowly and she gave him a warm smile. "Mornin'." she yawned, stretching out a little on the soft bedding. "Good morning, my other. Iota has sent you a gift. I am sure you will enjoy it." the large male purred deeply, moving forward to give his mate a nuzzle beneath her powerful jaws affectionately.
Eta gave a small purr in return and began to lift herself from the bed, eager to see what her gift may be. Alpha moved to help her up and she batted him away gently. "Now now husband, I am pregnant not unwell. I can manage to get to the next room on my own." she chuckled, teasing him for his cautious attention.
Once in the room she cooed over the basket, picking out particularly delectable treats and making a mental note to find a way to properly thank the other female. Perhaps she would give her the first blessings when the child came, a great honour among the Chimera, it would be a delight to see her fertility and luck rub off on the childless female. "Oh this is all so good. Hm! You know what, I could make such a wonderful dish with these vegetables." She smiled, taking her usual comfortable position on her furs. "Could you see what meats are left, my sweet? These need a good kill to complement them. And we shall need fresh water."
Alpha smiled and bowed, more than happy to fulfill his mate's requests. Especially when he knew an excellent meal would be the result. He picked up their own water urn and made for the supplies hut. He knew Iota had already filled the main urns there so he would just need to get some of that water. Perhaps there would still be some fresh meat left over, if not he would delight in an early morning hunt.

"Excellent." Iota smiled fondly at her nephew and niece, surprised as a ball was quickly placed in his hands, the culprit now bouncing before her wanting to be lifted up and in one quick movement the cub was taken up and placed upon her shoulders. A chuckle escaped the pitch chimera, not sure if Cloudchaser was going to follow to her fields or not and just meet her later at the beach, she inquired, "Luckily we can plant this one nearer where we are and not on the other side of the fields. Ready to go then? It won't take but a few moments."
Pausing for only his reply, Iota smiled and nodded cheerfully at her nephew before making her way to the fields as quickly as she could in her walk, it took a while but they arrived in the place she deemed would be a good place for the tree to grow and dug a shallow grave for the pit with her claws and covered it loosely with dirt and bits of leaves, twigs and even pebbles to protect it a bit from birds and squirrels until it had a chance to grow into something. She'd provide it better protection after her trip to the sea front, she could construct a protective covering for the seedling there. "Alright to the beach!" she nearly cheered and began making her way back the way they had come.

Wavedancer gave a loud, childish giggle as she was lifted and settled on Iota's broad shoulders. She waved her paws in the air in delight as they began moving towards the fields, bobbing and enjoying the view from her mount. She glanced over her shoulder and saw Cloudchaser pause a little bashfully before following along behind the pair of them, carefully carrying the ball as though it might explode at any moment.
They arrived at the spot Iota chose swiftly and the young cub peered over her mane curiously as she carefully prepared a hole for the seed and buried it. Her large azure eyes followed every motion the adult made, no matter how small, as if everything was being memorised and studied. And perhaps it was, though there was nothing intentional about the cub's learning. No doubt such basic skills would be good for her when she grew and Iota would need help with the farming.
The fields and orchards would have to grow in time, to match the growing population of the village. One day perhaps even this small cub might be a proud mother, but for now she was content to play and ride on her much loved aunt. At Iota stood and turned to return to the beach she gave a loud laugh once again and echoed her words. "To the beach!" she giggled, pointing enthusiastically.
Cloudchaser stared at the ball. Human things baffled him, though he could see why the younger cubs enjoyed such a thing. It was like a small prey animal that would never bite back or flee too far. He almost missed his aunt encouraging him to accompany them. He gave a nod and caught up, warily carrying the ball.
He stood patiently and watched from a short distance as Iota planted the seed, turning the ball over and over in his paws. He gave it a testing bounce, amused to find it returning to his grasp in a rubbery way. A few more bounces caused the ever serious expression on his face to lift slightly.
It did not take the two females long to tend to the planting and he was caught a little off guard when Iota stood once more and headed for the beach, Wavedancer keenly laughing on her shoulders. His amber eyes followed them and he caught the ball up again in his slender claws and caught up to walk by Iota's side. It did not take long for the wide blue expanse of water to be visible on the other side of the village.

The scent of freshly spilled blood floated through the open window of the hut that Delta shared with his mate and child. He knew his wife was still asleep, but he did not know that she would be waking soon as he skinned the deer, so they could use the skin for tanning, and the meat for eating. For the sleeping Chimera, the blood was a sweet smell, one she enjoyed to smell, for it almost always ment a successful hunt, and with that, the rush of success. Her previous dreamless sleep quickly turned into a rush of images, smells, and sounds as her brain supplied the previous hunt that she had with her mate. A smile graced the chimera's lips as she tossed in her sleep, sighing happily.
By the time that Delta had finished with the skinning o the deer, and the removal of all unfavorable pieces of animal, such as the horns from the skull, and the hooves from the legs, his mate was awake, laying in bed, listening to the early morning sounds of the village. Kappa liked to lay in bed sometimes, one of the best times of the day was when you woke up with your beloved next to you enjoying their warmth. At least, it was in her opinion. Sighing, the lithe female rolled over and got out of bed. With a bit of a yawn, the female Chimera stretched out her back and her arms. Moving through the house, she came out the back door that Theta had installed for them, to make their jobs easier. Delta and Kappa worked as a team to hunt for the village as a whole, leading the hunting parties, or just hunting on their free time. They knew the land around the village well, since they had traveled over it, and would often scare away any dangerous predators before it came a problem.
"Mmm... From the smell, I would say your hunt was a big success." Kappa said, a slight purr under her voice as she walked over to where her mate was.
"Indeed." Delta answered his mate, a pleased growl under his voice as he answered her. "This was a long hunt, and you know how much I enjoy those." He smiled at her, as he looked up from his task, pulling out a specialized knife, one that was used to cut chunks of meat from the bones. "He was injured, but he was strong, and hearty. He will make a good meal."
"So I can see." Kappa replied, as she moved, grabbing another knife, and helped her mate with the task of getting the meat sepperated from the bones. The task was a little bloody, but Delta had already taken care of most of it, draining the blood where it would need to be washed off later. A large, sloped rock was just the spot.
The two talked about plans they had, to take the children of the village on a training hunt. It would be a lesson in stalking, to see which of the children needed more help in it, and which ones had the basics down. If everything was good, they would take them out on a small hunt, to go find some rabbits, or other small prey, to hunt themselves, and to show their kills to their parents. The work was much shorter with the two experts working on it, and soon, they had several baskets that needed to be taken to the supply hut, so the village as a whole could share in their bounty.
With a quick check on the sleeping Little climber, and a quick wash of the stone, they were on their way, leaving the deer skin out to dry for now. The two headed towards the supply hut, and noticed that Alpha was on his way as well. Delta looked over at his mate, then back at Alpha. Kappa nodded her head, meaning she saw him, and the two increased their pace a little, so they would met up with Alpha just as they both reached the supply shed.
Delta was waiting till they got closer, to call out to their leader, but his mate, as always jumped the gun, her impatience, calling out just a moment before Delta did. "Morning Brother Alpha!" She called, as she did a little wave with her full hands. Delta shot her an annoyed glance which was met with a childish smirk. Delta smiled back, not staying annoyed at her for long.
"Delta has brought down a deer this morning, and I'm sure we were low on fresh meat." Kappa said, since she had started the conversation. "So, you get to have your first pick of the venison, it appears." She said, and set her baskets down, as did Delta.
"That, and we would like to talk to you about something." Delta said. "Kappa and I believe that it is time to give the children a lesson in stalking. It will be close to the village, where any adult may watch. If they show that they are ready enough, we will do a practice hunt, where they will go and stalk some simple prey, a rabbit or a squirrel, for example." Delta explained his mate and his idea to their leader.

Alpha's ears swiveled to face the direction of the cheerful morning greeting, followed swiftly by his head and a wide smile. He held up his own massive paw in a wave. "And good morning to you, Sister Kappa and Brother Delta. Ah! What a delightful prize you have won this time. This must have taken some work." Alpha praised when he caught sight of the baskets of prepared meat. "Just what my lovely mate requested. Thank you for your hard work."
Alpha bowed slightly in gratitude as she selected a couple of likely looking cuts, perfect for a multitude of preparations. Eta would be delighted, it looked like it had been a good, healthy deer at some point in time. Neither too fatty nor too lean.
"Hm? Oh yes! Stalking if a valuable skill. The younger two in particular could use a little training in the basics and Boldhunter, as I am sure you've become quite aware during lessons, needs to work on her patience." Alpha nodded at their suggestion, rolling his eyes a little at the cub's antics and giving a small chuckle. "No doubt you have seen her attempting to capture a flighty prey in a group. She scatters them everywhere. Admittedly she usually gets one, but her skills need work. Little Climber and Wavedancer could use some good groundwork. I think my daughter is beginning to get the idea on land now, Little Climber is quite a way behind the others though. He still had difficulty with his walking even. I am sure it is no concern, Lambda has said he is healthy enough, just a little slow."
Alpha weighed the meat he had taken in one massive paw as he pondered on the subject of the cub's training. They all needed much more work before they were competent. Even the eldest, though he showed little affinity for the hunt. "Cloudchaser might do with a refresher lesson. He hasn't been on a hunt since the trees blossomed and even then he was an observer. I know he doesn't like it but... it is essential. See if you can convince him to join you sometime, even if all he does is find you suitable practice prey." Alpha nodded, breaking into a wider smile. "It is an excellent idea. I shall be most excited to see how far they are developing if I have the opportunity to watch. You have my permission."

Lambda quickly but not hastily left the hut. The fresh salty air helped calm her aggravation. She had been so upset, of having let her self run out of a medicine. She left her worries behind knowing full well that Iota would have everything she needed in the garden. It wasn't long before her voice hummed along with the noises of Nature about her.
The healer had been so preoccupied with her mission that her thoughts, Nature and her own humming drowned away the chatter that had erupted from the others as they greeted and wished everyone a good morning. Lambda took the most direct path towards the prize winning garden. If any of the humans knew of her gardening skills there would be no doubt that they'd scavenge it dry... Her song had been interrupted by an annoyed grunt but it soon picked up to where she had left off.
Once entering the garden, she paused to take in the new smells that tickled her nose and the beautiful views that she always took in upon a visit. She lifted her head up and silently thanked the Mother for giving Iota the gift of Gardening. It was such an important key for the Chimera's survival.
It wasn't long before her eyes fell on that golden yellow flower. Cilliea closely resembled water lilies in there form but there were a few major differences. Aside the fact that they did not inhabit in watery areas. There size was almost half the size. These tiny flowers were sometimes woven into crowns for the children to wear.
She sat down and easily picked the long grass like leaves that grew from the stock. Lambda decided that three would be enough to almost fill her jar. Almost immedeatly a milky substance discharged from where the leaves had been broken off. Had she been a novice, that would have been all the milk she would have gotten, however her tools and expertise would drain every last drop into her jar.
Just as she suspected the three leaves had filled the jar almost to the top. She quickly tightened the lid and placed it in her bag and in return she took out several other small jars and an larger empty one. She put some of this and some of that from the jars into the large one. Inspecting after everything was added. Smelling. Eyeing. Feeling. Once satisfied, she pulled 2 more Cilliea leaves and emptied all the milk into the jar.
Taking out a wooded rod from her bag she stirred for a few moments. She would now be ready to see Zeta, And the freshness of the Cilliea leaves would do wonders for his healing wounds. After returning everything to her bag again, she stood and made her way towards the Temple.

Zeta sat and stared at the grave, long talons reaching out to touch the metal cuffs. They felt as they always had, heavy, a burden to bear, cold. He had cast off his own cuffs as soon as possible after he had been freed from the labs, though he knew exactly where they lay in the forest even after two decades. Others chose to wear them still, a reminder of how precious their freedom was some had said. A foolish concept, he thought. It made more sense to him to cast off all ridiculous sentiments.
This seemed like a good a time as any to indulge in the training given to him. He settled himself comfortably on the soft grass and faced the monument to his late mate. It seemed too small, too insignificant. Of course when they had finally buried her none of them had more than basic skills and there had been so little time to do more. He felt as though she should have had a massive statue in the heart of the village.
He shook such thoughts away from his mind. It was harder to concentrate if he allowed his mind to wander such. With a deep breath he closed his eyes and slowly exhaled. Slowly, as practised a thousand times, he began simple meditation. The aches he felt began to fade as he concentrated on his inner self more than the outer world. Should someone come to the temple they would be unable to see him at first, as he was hidden from view by the building itself. He would not have heard an approach as he slipped deeper into concentration.
