The 11th Doctor
actually, from what I've been hearing, the next Doctor is going to be a woman

Oh gawd not that old joke again. xd The BBC already pulled this one ages ago when Tom Baker was leaving. They started a rumor the next doc would be a girl and had the fans in an uproar.
It'll never happen. If it did, I think the universe would explode or something.

I think that's inevitable with the new series, now. They've been trying to move away from the "sexism" of the original series by making the Doctor's travelling companions a bit more important to the storylines. So there's no reason for them not to ever do a female Doctor.

Plus, it wasn't just in Fatal Death that they've done it outside of canon. I'm pretty sure one of the Big Finish "Doctor Who Unbound" series did it once too.

Back when Tom Baker had been the Doctor, it probably would have been unthinkable, but not now.

(I don't think it'll be the eleventh, though.)

The actress' name is Joanna Lumley, and every actor that played the Doctor in Fatal Death was supposedly up for the role at some time. Including her.

Ooh I don't know, it would be very daring of them... even though it is the new series, the Doctor... is just a male role, there's no other way of putting it. To me it just seems like... one of those 'always has been, always will be' kind of things. I mean a female would be interesting but I wouldn't really like it... ??? I just don't think they will.

So many possibilities! death, gender changes... 0.o

Honestly- with the success the show has had, and the ratings the bbc are getting with it, i fail to see how this can be anything more than a rumour.

Yep! It was in Exile, when Arabella Weir played the Doctor and some actor called David Tennant played Time Lord 2. Wonder what he's doing now?

Aren't you in the David Tennant fan guild? Come to think of it, aren't you the one who posted an entire list of David's voice work in there when I made the topic asking if he had done anything other than Exile and Scream of the Shalka? xd

I thought it was hilarious that the master started flirting with the doctor when he turned into a woman.

Lol, patsy kick's major a**.

But I don't think it's posible to regenerate as a woman if you were born a man. It's just NQR man. That's like you waking up in the middle of the night, and suddenly you are a compleatly different sex. That's just not right.

I doubt it will be cancelled after season 4. The BBC need it too much. Though considering they've made SO many spin-offs now (Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures, Doctor Who Animated whatever...) they might pause it just to allow all of them to catch up.

If it's cancelled I'll just sink into the Big Finish adventures - and the classic series of course.

Remember, we're talking about a Time Lord. A Time Lord who has taken ten completely different physical bodies with different personality twists to match. If it's possible to change literally everything else about himself, I'm pretty sure changing sex isn't impossible. Unlikely, maybe, considering that he hasn't done it yet. But not impossible.

(Never mind that there are only two Time Lords left now, both currently the same sex. Draw your own conclusions...)
-edit by Ceribri - Oooh I could hurt you for that spoiler right up there....

I also doubt it will be cancelled, but you never know when they might decide to take a quick hiatus. Hopefully no time soon. wink

And where did you go to study for the degree in paleontology to dig that truly ancient rumour up? It's been doing the rounds since the Colin Baker break, as far as I know.

You know, I never fully appreciated the irony of a male avatar called "The 11th Doctor" claiming that the next Doctor might be a woman. xd

Anyway, there have been actresses up for the role in the past. It just hasn't happened yet.

If you REALLY wanna be thrown for a loop, I hear Billie Piper wants it.
