This diagnostic talk on dragons reminds me of Patrick Rothfuss' Name of the Wind It has a more technical approach on dragons similar to HypnoCrown's idea. I recommend it too if you get bored of the usual fantasy cycle found in books.

Name of the Wind, huh? That sounds quite cool but where do you find it? Is there a website for it? I suppose I should look it up, huh? mrgreen Thank you for your comment! My avatar has changed right now cuz I was curious to see if another kind of creature would look good with the HypnoCrown on it. 3nodding

I think the new avatar looks pretty good. I just got my copy of Name of the Wind from a bookstore (I've already been through a few copies) Oh, fair warning though that I forgot... and was reminded by one of my friends, some parts of the book swear a bit, so if you are easily offended by that then there's the warning. The main character actually attempts to defeat one of the "dragons" and ends up making one heck of a legend of himself out of almost nothing. ^_^ I love how the book depicts how stories get formed...

Thanks! As you may have noticed I changed my avatar yet again and it has nothing to do with the Hypnotic crown anymore. At least not now anyway...
So name of the wind, eh? Sounds very interesting cuz there's a dragon. However, aren't you getting a bit tired of stories having knights or whatever having to defeat dragons for their own selfish purposes? In one of my stories, there's a prince who needs a dragon tooth for a potion and instead of him finding a dragon and killing it for the tooth, he sneaks inside of a dragon's cave and tries to cut one out of its mouth while it's asleep. mrgreen

In the book I mentioned the main character is anything far from a hero, you actually see him as a normal guy with stories built up around him (which is quite comical and believable). Also, he didn't have intentions of killing the dragon, but it was rampaging on drugs, which was because his original plan to dope the dragon to sleep and prevent it from eating any more of the drug backfired and the side effect was it liking fire and it was bonfire night at the town... and well... it's just full of good twitsts on old ideas, which makes it a very well thought out and unseasonably comical. It's not your average fantasy story and it's really good for a change in pace. I don't normally reccomend fantasy books because people usually know what kind they like and from which authors, but this is a good read for anyone who's getting a little tired of the same old knight fights enemies for selfish gain etc... stuff.
That sounds like a good idea Hypno. ^_^ I can only imagine how that scenario will turn out... and it's quite comical in my mind... especially if the dragon just happened to wake up at this time... ROFL! My characters do similar things to surpass the typical fantasy plots.
... ... ...
On an entirely unrelated note... my roomies and are are communicating with the guys across the road with erasable marker... *eyeroll*

Really? That sounds quite good! So rampaging on drugs, eh? Sounds funny too... But yeah, they stories of knights slaying dragons seem to be getting old.
Thanks Ellia! I hope this doesn't spoil it for you but the dragon did wake up in the story but not cuz of him trying to get the tooth out, he-he. That was the first story I ever came up with, just FYI. The year? Hmm, I'm pretty sure it was either 1994 or 1995, yeah...
Huh? Communicating with guys across the road with an erasable marker? confused

If i may bring up another subject?
Ive gone out of fantasy lately. to me it seems to be repeating a lot of things. things like swords in lakes, weponds and amor that are magical, dragons, heros, the bad guys allways losing, happy ever after, the end, once upon a time. you get the idea - and now im reading horror
Im new too this fantasy writing but i seriously want to give it ago. some things are clear to me. for an example im going to set it in the furture. the main chararter is a anti-hero, and mulants exist. as i see it it is quite possible to take a guss in the furture human form. animal types are changing so why cant the humans? but its not going to be over-the-top-powers you see in comics to day.
so my question for you guys is this: would you say the best superhero or bad guy (wahtever you choice) have a weakness? i mean they wont be ALL powerful, ALL knowing. CAN'T be killed right? a mulant must appear human. they are people and do have emothions so there must be a limit to what they can do. Tell me what you guys think and ill be posting facts about the main chararter later on

That sounds good! I mean, not the over the top powers and everything. I think the best villains usually don't have weaknesses but if you want to give yours one then go ahead. It might make for a more interesting story anyway. 3nodding
