The breath of his name carried to him on the wind, and he cocked his head, watching her reaction and frowning slightly at the sun glinting from the tears on her cheeks. Suppressing a protective growl, wanting to demand what was wrong, he slowly approached her, first softening his face. 'You're crying..." he whispered, bringing his face close to her for a moment to make sure they were tears before pulling them back and cocking his head once more, "Why are you crying, Lady Aritania? Tears are not so becoming for a beautiful princess like yourself - you're too pretty when you smile." Not at all what he had pictured this meeting like - was she unhappy to see him? The king hid the doubt in his eyes - this wasn't the time. Perhaps this assumed male had done something horrible to her. He certainly couldn't allow that!

She ducked her head, feeling a little embarrassed that he would see her like this. Had she said any of the things she'd been thinking out loud? Oh that would have been BRILLIANT... She winced and wiped away the tears quickly. "Nothing... It's nothing... Thank you for your kind words Apollo... Its so good to see you again... Its been so long... I missed seeing you..." She paused, blushing. Did that make him uncomfortable?

Apollo's ears lifted slightly, "Well.... I missed you as well. I'm certainly happy to meet you again." Her blush did not go unnoticed, and that made him grow hot in the face as well, but he worked to suppress it. Perhaps there wasn't another lion? that would have been most fortunate! But...
He tossed the idea of saying this to her, but certainly there was another lion. It had been so long and she was so beautiful... why wouldn't there be? They were simply friends, and that was all. So I'd better just stop thinking about it right now...

Aritania watched the emotions and thoughts flicker across his face like shadows, not really able to examine one before another appeared. What was he thinking? Did he really mean it when he said he had missed her too? "Really?" She asked softly, feeling her heart speed up a bit. Why was that one phrase enough to make her feel lighter? "Yes... I'm glad I happened to run into you... I come here now and again..." She confessed it before she could really think. "I was beginning to think, I'd never see you again..." And that made me very sad... She added silently.

Apollo nodded slowly, "Of course..." But he continued to watch her carefully. She wasn't leading on about another lion...
"Well... I'm sure whomever happens to be courting you wouldn't want to know about this..." he added roughly, regaining a kingly stature with much force on himself to do so. It pained him to say it aloud, but he had to know. And sometimes being brusque was the best way - especially if he were right.

Brows and heart lifting for a moment, her jaw dropped at him the next. Whoever happened to be COURTING her? Was he mad? Aritania recovered quickly, casting her gaze down, closing her mouth, a blush flaming in her crimson cheeks as her mane fell forward to hide her face. As if THIS wasn't going to be awkward. "I am being courted by no one..." She murmured softly, wincing at the thought of telling him she was so unwanted.

Apollo quickly looked away from her, face hot at both her reaction and her words. "I'm..." he stumbled, working hard to supress his excitement and embarassment. "Uhm, I didn't mean to, uh..." Oh man, he hadn't expected that! What was he supposed to say!? "That's.... unfortunate..." he managed out, forcing himself to sound far less excited by that news than he actually was.
Wait, what was he saying!? She wouldn't take it the way that he meant it. What had he done!? "I mean, uh..." His face burned and he was sure that his gold was starting to match her crimson.

At the word 'unfortunate' Aritania pinned an ear, her pride pricked. How dare he-? Unfortunate? As he stuttered she glanced away, suddenly saddened. "I suppose." She said softly. "But I find pleasure in wandering, and if there was a male who wanted me, who forbid such things, I would choose the life I love.... So I shall merely wait for a male who likes what I do..." That was as close as 'gee we're alike, what do you think' as she would come.

"Uh..." he stared at the ground like a flustered kit, unsure what to say next. He'd surely blown it. And besides, he couldn't ask her to stay with him now. He loved his pride and rarely left - he couldn't expect the same from her. "I see..."

"I wouldn't ever LEAVE..." She murmured, not knowing why she bothered explaining.. But being able to wander, if and when I chose, would be an essential thing... I don't want to feel trapped... I want to be able to go for long walks, and hunt, and just... Think... You know?" She looked up at him, eyes earnest.

Apollo nodded and glanced up only for a moment - he didn't know what to say or how to even respond to her. "I understand..." he murmured with much thought, finding some way that it could work. He was willing to try... But afraid that she might say no, thinking that he would try to keep her there or... or something. Or that she'd just flat out say no because he'd insulted her... Some king he was.

Aritania ducked her head. This reunion conversation was certainly not going the way she planned... Or the way she hoped... What a mess this was! She sighed, drooping for a moment. "Not that anyone is really, interested anyway..." She barely breathed the words. That was the reason she still lived in her father's pride... No one had liked her enough to offer a home somewhere else... Sure her brothers would allow her to visit if she wished, but that wasn't the same as having a Knight in Shining Armor whisking one away...

"That's not true!" he snapped defensively, raising his head, his muscles tightening throughout his entire body. "I don't know why you think that.." he said, straightening up to his usual kingly posture - so he WAS a king after all.

She blinked at him, lovely eyes wide as she fairly sat back on her haunches from the heat of his reply. What did he know? Had he been around to watch as her lovely sister found a male and left? To watch her brothers strike out on their own and find females? And still she remained... Alone... UNWANTED. "It is!" She replied, straightening. "Jade left! Ceari left! Rell and Brazen and Jem all left! I alone have not been courted..." She closed her mouth. 'I'm too busy comming back to this place looking for you...' Gods she was a fool.

He stepped up to her, nose close to her face, "Who says you are not being courted by a fool male who's too afraid of rejection, Lady Aritania?" He cocked his head ot one side, still keeping close to hers, wondering what could be running through her mind.
