Hinote was still musing over how the mare didn't think she had wings--for her body said otherwise--when the mare turned and smiled at him. She had a very cute smile, he decided. As she began to speak, he tilted his head curiously as she continued on about butterflies, causing him to smile a bit more until she mentioned that he was prettier than them. He blinked.
Once.
Twice.
Thrice.
...What? He thought, confused. How was he, a stallion, prettier than butterflies? He stared at Del'nal, perplexed. "I don't think I am prettier... but you Del'nal, are far more beautiful than these butterflies," he dared to say, not that he was sure Del'nal would even take the compliment. While he pondered on her unusual words, he found himself soon musing over Del'nal again. He hid a smile.

Laughing Del'nal shook her head playfully. "Of course you're prettier then the butterfly." Her voice almost sounded like the sound of her mother's soft jingle bells as she spoke. "You've got wings like a butterfly! And know how to use them! Of course you're prettier then a butterfly!" She blushed when he heard his compliment but soon quickly the slight embarrassment was erased as a big butterfly started flying around Hinote. "Even that butterfly likes you!" she exclaimed with a big smile.

For a short, quiet moment he watched the aforementioned butterfly flutter about his head, still not understanding why he would be more beautiful--wait, beautiful? How strange! Was he not a stallion? Why would he be beautiful, and not handsome? Maybe this innocent mare thought they were similar concepts, which could hold true. He watched her for a little bit after, his attention on the butterfly wavering as his gaze slowly swiveled in Del'nal's direction.
He smile softly at her. "...You can fly, too. Just like a butterfly," he added, his golden gaze looking away from her eyes to focus on her wings that seemed to not understand they were attached to her body. As he turned his head, the butterfly that had been playing with his ears began to dance its way over to the pretty mare. Deciding he preferred seeing her smile, he prompted Del'nal with a nod at the fluttering insect.
"Ah... but maybe that butterfly likes you more?" he queried, eyes dancing with amusement as he watched Del'nal. Her smile was addicting. He wanted to keep watching her smile. It was so rare of him to want to see something like this on a mare... why now? He didn't understand it, really, but he honestly felt quite charmed. Del'nal, herself, didn't seem to realize what she was doing to him; that was fine, though. He was content to just watch her smile and listen to her pretty laughter.

Del watched the butterfly fly about Hinote's head a few moments before letting her gaze wander. "My parents can fly, and all of my siblings, but I can't fly." she said with a small sigh, her smile disappearing from her face for a mere second. Her smile returned quite fast when she noticed the butterfly coming towards her.
"Butterfly!" she happily called out to it. "It's such a pretty butterfly. So pretty. Just like you are." she said with a nod and a smile before looking back at the butterfly. She almost didn't hear Hinote's comment about the butterfly liking her more due to being distracted by said butterfly. "It doesn't like me more. It likes you more." Her smile was back in full force as she watched it flutter about. "To be a butterfly would be amazing. Don't you think? Though you'd almost be a butterfly yourself. You're pretty like a butterfly, you've got wings like a butterfly, you're pretty, but you just need to be smaller." she rambled as her thoughts flew from her mouth.

He wondered at her comment, clearly confused. She had wings, did she not? Of course she could fly! Perhaps, though, Del'nal had a thought in her mind that she could not. The poor mare didn't realize? Did her parents not tell her she had the ability to fly? Her wings were so glaringly obvious, but as he observed her longer, he realized how little she used them. He could tell she was not disabled of them, however, as from time to time she would flutter them, much like a butterfly--however, even his family members who had the wings of butterflies could fly.
Hinote felt he was obligated to help Del'nal realize that she ought to be able to fly; so he convinced himself, though in the back of his mind he did realize there was more than just that reason (rather, excuse, but he preferred to call it a reason). Though he did not usually like to talk, Del'nal seemed to make this an exception to the rule, though, as he found he had never spoken this much in his life, he just now realized... then again, for the most part he just preferred listening to speaking, anyway. In any case, he decided to humor this gorgeous mare, and she held his attention like no other, besides! Eyes twinkling, he merely shrugged a shoulder at her odd comment.
"I am not as pretty as you, Del'nal," her name slid off his tongue like tasteful silk as he spoke, "and I do not think you should call me pretty." He allowed a soft chuckle to escape past his lips, a gentle smile, as always, on his face as he tilted his head at her. "I am not sure if it would be astounding to be a butterfly." He paused here, his attention remaining on Del'nal instead of the butterfly, as he thought through his thoughts before he spoke, much like he normally did, anyway. However, he had no choice but to grin broadly at her statement of how he'd need to be much smaller, though he somewhat doubted her words about his wings. His wings were much plainer than a butterflies, but he did not elaborate this to the mare.
So, instead, he mused, "You, too, are as beautiful as the butterflies you love, and..." here he laughed yet again, but too, in a soft manner, "...I do not think I can become smaller. I am afraid the only thing I can do is fly, Del'nal." He loved saying her name, though he was careful not to say it too often. He brushed his wing feathers slightly over her body as he leaned closer towards her, pretending to get a closer look at the butterfly. He was not sure how courting was to be done, but he also did not mind merely being just friends with this lovely specimen. She was a gentle, cheerful creature and it drew him nearer and nearer each and every time.

Del'nal just laughed playfully as Hinote said that she should not call him pretty. To her he was pretty and she would keep mentioning every time she could. "Of course you're pretty! Have you looked at yourself?" she questioned before turning her attention back to the butterfly. She really did have a short attention span, especially if a butterfly was around. Her thoughts got lost in the dreams of what it would be like if she could become a butterfly, and she remained in those dreams until the touch of Hinote's wing feathers touched her.
"Show me how you fly? You can fly like a butterfly! And then be just like the butterfly, and so even though you may not be as small as a butterfly, you can still fly and be pretty like one!" she bounced in place, happy about the suggestion, but then her face scrunched as she realized something. "Though if you did ever become small like a butterfly, I think I'd be afraid to squish you. I like you to much to squish you!" But then the thought of flying entered her mind once more and the smile reappeared. "Show me how you fly! Please? Pretty pretty please?"

Squish him? What an interesting thought; she herself was just a tad bit smaller than him in height, seeing as she was a mare, but ah well. Del'nal made him sound like a beautiful male, which was odd sounding in his mind. Pretty? He just could not fathom the thought. He was quite sure "handsome" was the proper word... right? He chuckled quietly again, deciding that such spinning thoughts were beyond him right now. In any case, the mare's eagerness to see him fly occupied his attention at the moment.
"Hm... indeed?" If he showed her, perhaps she would understand that she, too, could fly? ...Or not, now that he really thought about it. She didn't think she had wings, and for most part just hopped around, imagining she could fly, but he knew that given the right kind of support she herself could learn to soar. He was about to answer her when her words struck him like a lightning bolt. "I like you too much to squish you!" At first he had thought it was just a passing, amused comment, but the first part of the phrase caught him like a deer in headlights.
Maintaining his calm features, however, he smiled and nodded at her request to see him fly. "I will show you a beautiful flight in the skies," he spoke softly as he leaned near to whisper in her ear. Somewhat poetic, but it didn't matter. Her words made his heart beat in a different way. He turned from her as he ended his sentence, backing up a few steps as he got ready to take off into the air. Pawing the ground with his right hoof, he began at a trot, followed by a gallop, into a run, spreading his wings on the run, allowing the air to get caught in his feathers as he did so. Soon, Hinote had taken flight, soaring--not very high since he still wanted to keep an eye on Del'nal--through the air gracefully.

"Whee! Yay! I can't wait to see!" Del'nal bounced happily, though deep in the back of her mind, a confusion was starting to surface. It wouldn't be long before she would begin to wonder why Hinote could stand being around her when others could not, and why she was feeling the way she did about him. But for now, she was more interested in watching him fly.
Giving him room to start, she waited a few moments before coming behind him, mimicing his steps, but unlike him, she remained on the ground. Her head turned skyward as she watched him in flight. Her mouth was slightly open in awe as she followed his movements. Oh how she wished she could do that! Be as graceful as he, and as the butterflies he flew with. Maybe just maybe she would fly one day, she thought as she continued watching him. Her head and body would move with his movements, so she could never lose her vision of the graceful stallion in the sky.

As he circled above Del'nal, he used this quick moment in time to try and figure out how to get Del'nal to use her wings. It was obvious she wanted to fly, but had no idea that she already had the ability, she just needed to learn how to use her wings. There had to be... that's it! The butterflies. The butterflies she loved so much were only the best example... he only had to coax her to open her own wings (the ones that remained clipped in her mind, at least) and she, too, could take flight. He had a feeling that she would be most beautiful in flight.
Hinote began to circle down slowly, landing softly as he walked over to Del'nal, smiling at her. "Did you like it?" he inquired, watching her delighted expression. He hadn't been able to discern her facial expressions from the height he had been at but he had been close enough that he knew she was in awe and very joyful seeing him fly. He truly wanted her to also experience the wonder of soaring through the air, but knew it would take more than a while. For now, he was content to play along with her whims, more than happy to watch her joyful emotions. It made him happy to make her happy, and through that alone he was far from sad--again, very content.
"Del'nal," he paused again, tasting her name on his tongue, "do you wish to fly?" He had to make sure she said yes--though he knew without a doubt she would say yes--but he wanted her to say it in confidence. No words of doubt mixed in. She just had to believe she could fly... it just had to make her own wingfeathers open up and work. If not, there was always the "push off the cliff and scare" but he doubted that would work since she seemed like the type that would literally fall so... nevermind. Hm... what to do? Still, though, he was glad to have let her see something she apparently showed true enjoyment for.

Del'nal practically pranced in place as she watched Hinote descend from the sky. When he finally came near and asked her if she liked it she burst out, "Of course I liked it! I loved it! You were so amazing, and pretty, and like a butterfly, and pretty, and whee!" She took a big gasp of air after she spoke and then laughed.
When he asked her if she wished she could fly, she paused a moment and thought about it...for a matter of two seconds. "To fly like the butterflies and like what you just did would be amazing! But I can't fly, and I probably never will. Though I dream of flying almost every night. Your flying was amazing though! I wish I could fly just like you." Del rambled on for a bit as she began to day dream about flying up in the skies with Hinote and the butterflies. Oh what fun it could be! She always wondered what it'd be like to fly through a cloud. Were they fluffy? Or solid? Or did one not notice at all? Oh the questions she wished she could answer if she could only fly!

He felt that, despite their brief meaning, that at this point he could spend forever with Del'nal. She made him feel like he was needed (though she herself did not realize this, he knew) as he flexed his wings experimentally. It was a good thing he ideally thought more than he spoke, but that was why Del'nal was his opposite: she spoke more than he did. He was perfectly fine with that. It meant she could speak enough for the both of them. He laughed quietly at his thoughts as he eyed Del'nal's wings again, forever invisibly chained because she believed she couldn't fly.
Or maybe not forever, but that meant he would have a lot of work ahead of him to convince her that she could, indeed, fly. He tilted his head at her, golden eyes shifting in their emotional thought process. She was already beyond beautiful, her beauty could only be complimented by her soaring through the skies. If he knew her character-type well enough, she was also the curious type, meaning she would ask all the questions a regular, non-winged Soquili would ask. That included questions about stars and clouds and such... which he knew that she would ask eventually, but he'd rather she found out herself.
"Do you want to know a secret, Del'nal?"

Lost in the dreams of flight, Del couldn't help but forget a few moments that there was someone there with her. Fluffy clouds, touching the stars, and even touching the sun! Though, that last one she knew would probably not be the best of ideas. She may want to try everything but even that one she knew would not be on her to do list. Ever. Hearing Hinote speak to her she shook her head slightly surprised, and then remembered that she had company.
"Ooo a secret? What kind of secret? Is it a good secret or is it one of those bad secrets that you're never suppose to tell even though it's really really really bad? Can I eat it?" All these questions flew out of her mouth, and the last one was not an odd question to her, while it may be for someone else. She remembered hearing as a foal when she had wandered off one day and overheard someone talking about a secret and eating something, but she never heard the full conversation and since then has always put the two together. "Can I know the secret or eat it if it's an eating secret?"

Hinote couldn't help but to laugh slightly at her barrage of questions; it was rather unexpected, though he had expected her to be excited about it. He figured she would be willing to learn a little bit of "magic"; something he was more than willing to show her. After all, flying in and of itself was quite magical already!
"It isn't an eating secret," he said, apologetically. "However, it's a secret I can teach you--it's something that gave me the power to fly," he explained, smiling gently at her. "But we can't do it right now; the day is almost over," he noted, surprised to see that he had stayed this long, but at the same time not too surprised. It was rather wonderful to spend time with a mare like Del'nal; in fact, he found himself wishing he didn't have to leave her anytime soon!

Fly? He knew the secret of flying?! Del started to bounce in place as she listened to him. Oh how she wished she could fly! It would be so exciting to fly up in the sky just like the butterflies! But then she heard him mention that the day was almost over. "No! Please don't go away. If you leave then you'll never come back. You're the only one that's ever been around me this long." She said quietly but quickly.
"I want to know the secret of flying! Secrets don't need the light of the sun does it? Not like the plants do. I hope it doesn't require the sunlight. I want to learn the secret. Please please please!" She pleaded in hopes that he wouldn't leave. Del didn't want the only soquili to ever stay around her to leave.
