I liked this episode more than the pervious one.
I found it so sad that Smith accepted he had to die, but i was glad the doctor was back.
Also i liked how the psychic boy survived the war, and lived to be an old man, that part nearly made me cry (don't ask why)

But i didn't quite understand the mirror stuff, is that what DW did to them before or what he did after he blew up their spaceship?

Human Nature was quite simply one of the greatest episodes of Doctor Who, ever.
This was better.
Everything about it was just excellent, so moving, and just so great on so many levels.
I'm not sure about the science behind the whole 'trapped inside every mirror' crap, but that bit was made up for by that f**king brilliant scene in which John Smith's future flashes before his eyes (interesting twist on an oft-used cliche), the boys shooting the scarecrows and the incidental music that goes on at that time) and just a dozen other awesome bits that made this episode a classic.

ARWHHHGURIGURBUS smeg I typed this nice long descriptive thing and then clicked the back button for some stupid reason and lost it all so short and to the point now:

- was OK- though not as good as the first epi
- SO emotional!!!! crying crying crying crying crying
- I really liked the whole John Smith- Doctor thing
- and at the end with Matron... poor thing
- the end was kinda bler with the trapping in the mirror and the voice over thing
- as were the scarecrows, they really annoy me
- not so keen on the whole war thing and showing everyone old

... hard to say really, I liked parts of it but disliked parts of it. You feel sad for John Smith but on the other hand like the Doctor being back and... oh I don't know. *goes to bed*

I was really glad to see the Doctor back... you don't realise how much the techno-babble adds to the show until its gone for an episode. When he started explaining the telepathy to the kid I squee-ed. I was also oh so happy that the Maitron didn't come along with him, I didn't like her at all, it would have been cool if she'd been possesed by mother of mine or something. All in all a great episode.

Yeahh I didn't really like Matron either...
It was really strange at the end though, you know, when he was offering for Matron to come with him, and he said that he'd give the whole relationship thing a chance, I was like... ... woah.
He got rejected pretty harshly though, I mean, one second he's babbling along happily, the next he's just walking sadly over to the door after being shunned really badly... it wasn't his fault really, if the Family had got hold of him a lot more people(/other species) would have died.

Though the very end where he hugged Martha was nice, always good to finish on a hug blaugh hugs are good.
... though he now as another person interested in him, haha, he really is a winner with the ladies wink

Yeah she didn't like him as the doctor now did she? Even though John Smith was a wimp... I kept expecting him to start crying.

An excellent episode. Add it to the list of Tennant episodes that have made me cry!

I think, even more so than I did before, that this episode is David's greatest Doctor Who showcase of what an unbelievably talented actor he is. From the human vulnerability of John Smith, and his reaction to seeing what could be (and well done to the prosthetics team for the old age makeup on him!), to the cold anger and ruthlessness of the returned Doctor, we see an amazing difference. Well done David!

Freema was even better than usual as well, really fleshing out the character of Martha more than in other episodes. This was her strongest story yet, and showed the true courage that she has when having to deal with terrifying creatures without the Doctor by her side.

The Family, especially the little girl, were as spine chilling as their scarecrow acolytes, and the punishments meted out to them by the Doctor gave a feeling of poetic justice.

The anti war message was clear as well, showing how horrific it can be. The shots of the boys wiping tears from their eyes before the scarecrows attacked and were fired upon, for me, demonstrated the futility of violence and that these, although trained to kill, were just children.

Overall, amazingly well written and performed. Well done to all involved!

Favourite quote: (actually there's two [EDIT: erm, three] this week. I can't choose between them!)

Martha: God you're useless as a human!

Latimer:
He's fire, and ice, and rage.
Smith: Stop it!
Latimer: He's ancient and forever. He burns at the centre of time and he can see the turn of the universe.
Smith: Stop it!
Latimer: And he's wonderful.

EDIT: Missed this one!
Martha: Scared and holding a gun. Good combination. Wanna risk it?

Ohh, so much agreement with you...it was my favorite episode by far!
This proves once again how brilliant an actor DT is! Especially when playing a character inside a character.

The scenes that really got to me were the ones where Smith had to accept that he had to die, especially after seeing what could have been had he not changed back to the Doctor. The prosthetics were amazing, and I know I was crying so much seeing the wedding, and then when he died as an old man.
I also know at the end where the dead soldiers are being honored, and then you see the boy as an old man and the camera turns to see Martha pinning the thing to the Doctor's suit...my dad knew exactly what the ceremony was. Needless to say, we both started crying a lot. It was really emotional, this episode I mean.

I also agree with the poetic justice stuff, although the mirror thing was a bit strange, but I suppose every little kid imagines that they see something in a mirror behind them. Looking back at it, the deus ex machina thing ..I can understand that, but it just works, if you get caught up in the episode and not analyzing every second for plot holes, etc. I just get lost in the moment and look into it later.

I loved some of the quotes in this episode, especially the one between Latimer and Smith. I also like this poetic "lonely god" stuff that's been put into the more recent episodes, and in New Earth back in season 2.... it's just very pretty. (although that may not make any sense whatsoever) I suppose it could get annoying, but it hasn't yet for me.

And I will also have to agree that this was Freema's best performance yet, especially since she didn't have the Doctor to back her up.

I liked the secound half better then the first but The doctor as John Smith is rather....annoying and uninteresting in certain ways. He lacks pazazz and a lust for life.

I like the episode a lot. My only complaint was the scare crows, I thought it was a bit corny, but it was really good.

It was very sad for John Smith. He went from, "How wonderful it would be if stories like these were real." To, "I don't want it to be real."
He became a separate entity. And the part that's the Doctor (inside the watch) must have realized that and started trying to talk to the boy.
When the Matron read the end of the book, even she realized what needed to be done. She's a very logical person. *And the annoying logic of the time is that woman can't become doctors, and blacks can't possibly understand medical books.* scream
Though she was good at establishing that the real little girl's family were dead.
The choice was put into John's lap. Take the life he saw, or death. If he took that life, how many people would have died before the Family did? It may have appeared happy. But I think the thought of choosing life with the cost of other lives would have pleaged him.

One other thing. Just enjoy the ride.

Although it was creepy(ie with the scarecrows),it was also sad because the Doctor had a life that he could never have otherwise, and was forced to give it up in the end.
