Meko watched keenly, his tail swishing madly behind him as he waited and hoped there would be a good butterfly to go after. It never happened, though, for they'd all made their escape in no time at all. They could chase after them, but of course the insects were crafty enough to fly upward as well as away.
"Pfft, they wouldn't stand a chance if we could fly," he commented when Mzuza declared the game finished, for the time being at least. When she commented on their foolishness, Meko took a look around, "I guess, maybe they live at these flowers, like we live in one place though.."

"Tchah, well of course!" She snorted, as if scorning the butterflies' chances of staying uncaught if she and Meko had had the ability to fly after them. She shook her head slightly at his next comment, although it was an interesting thought. "I guess... But if some kind of giant creature a hundred times our size were to attack us constantly, we'd move, wouldn't we?" A look of contemplation crossed the copper cub's face. Lions couldn't be that stupid.
"Maybe it's just cause they're so small. They can't have much of a brain in those tiny little bodies, can they? Maybe that's why they don't have the sense to do anything about being chased."

He thought over Zu's comment about their own potential desire to move should something 100 times their size attacked every once in awhile. It was hard to imagine something that big, it'd be like if Priderock just up and started pounce at them or something. Except that was bigger than a hundred times, wasn't it? Tetemeko looked completely confused as he kept imagining a giant rock causing havoc around the Pridelands, but snapped out of it when Zu suggested they were just stupid.
"Maybe," he agreed, "You'd have to be pretty dumb to let something keep chasing you away."

((Writer's block xP))
She nodded, watching as a few butterflies decided to take their chances and fluttered back toward their spots on the rocks and between the flowers. "Hey look, they're coming back," She said softly, sitting perfectly still so as not to startle them again.
"I guess they must really like it here, then, huh..." She mused with a small shake of puzzlement. "It's nice but... not all that great."

Tete's eyes brightened and he grinned as the butterflies slowly began to flutter back to their favoured flowers despite the now obvious presence of a predator. Two of them, even.
"Maybe there's something special or important about right here," he suggested, watching one butterfly in particular very carefully, "Or they really are really dumb.." His tail swished the grass behind him, but he held back the desire to try to catch one again to wait and see if more came back.

"Well I'm inclined to think that they're just really dumb," She said with a slight giggle. "But if I had to guess, I'd probably say it was the flowers." She nodded her head sagely as her eyes followed a butterfly's careful descent back down to earth. Supposing they really did like it here, they must be willing to give up an aweful lot just to be where they liked to be.
"But if they really like it here, then I guess they're staying out of bravery." She said after a while, watching as more butterflies slowly followed the suit of the first insect and returned to their original posts.

Tete grinned at her desire to just declare them dumb, as opposed to making excuses for them. It was easier, and funnier that way. Her suggestion about the flowers made sense, for when the little lion thought about it, flowers did seem to be the common factor in where he'd seen most butterflies.
"I think you're right, on both things," he agreed with a nod, wrinkling his nose when she suggested that they were being brave by staying where they were happy. Maaaaybe..

((When do you think we should end this?))
She shook her head after further consideration of what she had said. "Nah. Dumb." She grinned and reached out to swipe a paw at a nearby 'fly, making it twirl up through the air again, once more driven away from its desired spot. "Look, see, they're both just fighting for the same flower." She pointed out two butterflies who kept colliding into each other in flight as they fought to reach the same flower. "There are plenty more right beside them, they should know." It only reinforced her own conclusion: butterflies were, indeed, dumb. And she could probably find plenty more evidence to prove their lack of brains, too.

(( lol, it almost seems like it won't end, eh? XD Whenever we find a good place to end is best... ))
"Maybe they traded their brains for pretty wings," he suggested, watching as the stupid insects fluttered around trying to get to a single flower instead of dispersing as she suggested. With a cub's imagination it was entirely possible, trading away one thing for another. Sacrifice one useful attribute for a more useful one, or a supposedly more useful one. Other bugs had wings, but they weren't as pretty or as fun as butterflies.
"Maybe," he repeated, shaking his head at the butterflies.

"Maybe." She nodded her head. "Or maybe they were made just so animals like us that are smarter can have something to wonder about. After all, life's no fun if there's nothing new and exciting." She had long since decided that butterflies were the most mysterious and strange of all creatures, as well as the prettiest. And perhaps Meko really was right. It sounded like a fair enough thing, brains for pretty wings, although why any creature would choose to be pretty over smart was beyond her.
"I think they must've been pretty brainless to begin with," She announced after a moment's thought. "I mean, they must've been pretty brainless to have been willing to trade brains for wings. And they almost must've been pretty brainless to allow that. Maybe they were all just made really dumb so they decided having much brains wouldn't help them at all anyway."

He listened carefully to her explanation of why his suggestion might not make sense, and then why it might. Her explanation of it had a few problems too, Tete thought.
"Wouldn't they have to be smart a little bit to think of that, though?" he asked, looking from Zu now to some of the returning butterflies. They were a mystery, at least to this cub, and he found himself wanting to agree with her first statement. Maybe they were just there so the smarter creatures could wonder about, much like they were doing right now.

Mzuza grinned. "Just not smart enough." She said, glancing at the butterflies. Which then of course made her wonder how they were smart enough to stay alive if they weren't even smart enough to think things through before giving up their brains for wings. "The pretty ones are always dumb," She concluded, thinking about it a little. "Tooth for a tooth, right? So I reckon if they were born with beauty, they gotta give something back. And that could be speed or accuracy or bravery, but mostly I think it's just the brains. And that goes for all species, not just butterflies." She paused to muse for a while. "Although I guess that would been the even prettier ones would be even dumber." She said finally, indicating toward the flying bugs.

Tetemeko looked towards one particular butterfly he thoguht was especially attractive and tried to determine whether or not it acted dumber than all the other butterflies. It didn't seem much less intelligent than any of the other butterflies, and he wasn't keen on classing all beautiful creatures as dumb. Unless he proved it, but that didn't seem very likely.
"Maybe," he said again, sounding as decisive as ever, "It sounds like a fair trade for a butterfly."

((Sorry! I've been so busy this past week that I haven't had much time to post! gonk ))
"Probably." She nodded, taking the moment to store this newly acquired (however inaccurate) information into her mind. She could tell Pa about it when she got home, and maybe Mother too if she was around. Then they could all talk about the butterflies and just how dumb they must have been to have made the switch. And perhaps then she'd learn something new again.
She knew that perhaps knowing petty details about butterflies wouldn't help her any when she had to hunt or do any of the lioness-y things that she knew she would most likely grow up to do, but that didn't mean it hurt to know it, and in her mind it was better to know too much than too little.

(( That's OK! XD It hasn't been that long, and being busy happens <3 ))
Coinsidentally, Tetemeko had a similar idea involving talking to his father about the butterflies to see if he knew anything more about it. If his daddy didn't know, he might try other bigger lions he knew. Someone had to know more about it, and the first person he would think to ask was of course his father. The thought of his father reminded him that he'd snuck off, and it probably wasn't a good idea for him to be away too long. He glanced to the butterflies, and then back to Zu.
"I should probably go back home now," he said with a slight groan of displeasure, "I kinda snuck away. I don't think dad'll like it if he figures out that I did." The cub got to his feet, nodding sagely.
