Yes, but the pope needs to remember that this is fantasy. this is all made up and coming straight from J. K. Rowling's head. It's not real and he needs to realize that. People aren't going to go out and start killing people with spells because you can't. As good as the books are, they are not real and they won't be real.

actually I was in a book store yesterday and I can sort of see why the pope is so against Harry Potter...ther were selling fake wands...and fake potions...and a fake spell book...This would probably make the wiccans angry as well

But they are toys. Not "real magic devices", a child who plays with a rubber wand isn't going to become a Wiccan when they grow up.

And even if they do, how does that bother the church, really. From what I know they don't "cast spells" on the churchs, or anything like that. It all seems crazy to me...

XP Are you serious? The new pope doesn't "approve" of the Harry Potter books? Well, that's lame. I'm Catholic Christian and my parents love the HP books, too. And so does teh rest of my family.
I even went to a Catholic School and most of the Teachers liked HP, too. So this is pretty weird news to me.

Just goes to show you not all people who are religious are crazy.

But sorry to offend anybody I just don't believe there is anything wrong with the books. They only give you good messages... Unless your looking at it the wrong way.

Most aren't.

Anyway, I can see why the church wouldn't like it if it were similar to wicca, but it's not, really, at all.

There are, however, a few Harry Potter sites, for kids, that I've seen with links to Beginners Guides to Wicca sites, and that bothered me.

And it's that one little thing that leads to the stereotypes. exclaim I just wanted to press that button.

I can see why the pope doesn't like Harry Potter books. It states in the bible that witchcraft is wrong, and I mean look at the name. Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry. And being a very religious man having being the pope, I can see why he doesn't like the books. But then again he hasn't read any of them. The old Pope liked them though. I'm Christian and see nothing wrong with them at all, actually they have good morals in them. There's this book on amazon called 'Looking for God in Harry Potter' I think I'll buy it for my dad since he seems to hate Harry Potter and refers to it as 'satanic' Anyway im done ranting and sorry if I've offended anyone.

Yeah, I was talking to my friend the other day and she's extremely religious. I asked her if she had read any of the Harry Potter books and she said she wasn't allowed to because they were sooooo Christian they don't believe in whichcraft and stuff. You can still read the books and not believe in whichcraft though!

Ah. I watched the author of that book debate with another author of a book against Harry Potter. It was interesting to see, although I didn't agree with all the things the man said, it made sense.

I suggest you do get it for him, if he believe Harry Potter is sanatic. For it isn't...

The pope isn't the only one. Over here, they've had book burnings in churches just so that their children couldn't read the book. It's stupid, really, how they burn the innocent FICTIONAL books that children read and love. Stupid.

Book burning?...that's going a little over the top in my eyes...
