And did anyone else wonder why on earth they would bother giving them rifles that are so awkward and bulky just so they would look like Dalek-lazerz..?
Because they were in the 30's, so there were an effectively inifinite supply of tommy guns, and putting egg whisks on them makes them shoot death rays.
Duh.
Ah, I get it now... (I really shouldn't post when I'm insanely tired...) but I've always wondered why egg-whisks..? And what does the other thing do?? There's the blue telescope thing on top and there's a plunger and an egg-whisk... Hm... ninja
Apparently, when the suits are empty they get pulled round by the crew pulling on the egg whisk. Which is why the original daleks had slightly bent-in ones. Due to shoddy workmanship.
Speaking of. Was anyone else amazed at the short amount of time that Martha needed to set that roast-the-pigmen trap up? If anyone else tried it, things would have fallen over. Oh, the magic of TV.
I was just amazed Martha knew the lift was going to get there precisely when it needed to. She's smart for a sidekick o_o

Oi.
That was painful.
I was hoping for the follow up to be better than the first part, and redeem it.
It failed miserably.
For both episodes...
The plot had more holes than the overall story arch of Torchwood. The Doctor is suicidal; what the HECK? I thought we weren't supposed to have an emo!Doctor! AND THE ENTIRE IDEA WAS LIKE A CLIP SHOW! It just spliced together ideas and segments from all the various new series episodes already aired. Jeez.
The special effects and make-up people or whoever does all that coolstuff... they were amazing. Octopus!head was brilliantly done.
WHY THE HECK DID THE DALEK GET AWAY? WWWWHHHYYYY????
I'm sick of the Daleks. Season 1, they were really really scary. Season two, it was still like 'DUNDUNDUN'. Season 3... boring, and pointless.
I could have seen this script going somewhere. But it didn't. Not. At. All. The next episode better make up for this one.
And also... what was with the Dalek background music? The choral parts of it were different than anything previously in the series, and also on the soundtrack. It wasn't until the end that the music went back to what's demonstrated on the soundtrack... Odd. This implies that more of a score has been written, which also means that most likely the Daleks are coming back in series 3... Darn it.
Actually, the more I think about it... Martha was being awesome until the lightning thing. I never quite understood how Rose ALWAYS knew what to do... I'm glad Martha is more like a normal person, and gets confused and a bit freaked out.
You know... the last scene where the Doctor was talking to The Last (FINALLY) Dalek... I was thinking it could redeem both episodes. But then the darned thing teleported away! That should NOT have happened. I was really hoping it would be like "I am the last Dalek. It is better for the race to die than to become corrupt." And then it dies. No self destruct. But just dies. Or I don't know. Just... something better than another temporal shift. ><;
EDIT: Oh, and one last thing. I loved how in the end he was all like "I'm going to save the pig-guy!" That was REALLY more like the Doctor than I think we've seen all season so far. biggrin That part I liked.
And please keep in mind; I didn't hate it. It was kind of fun to watch... and it wasn't THAT bad. But... it's Doctor Who! It should be better. :grumbles:
Why did the dalek get away? Because it's not just a robot with a death laser, it's mythos. It was around before some of the new script writers were even born I'm sure, and that's made it as much a part of the series as the TARDIS. Killing off something as iconic as the daleks isn't just about finding a satisfactory resolution to a story-it's about altering history, ironically enough. The history of a show that's very much become more than the sum of its parts. To claim responsibilty for killing off the daleks would be akin to claiming one person was now responsible for the whole of Who. And that just isn't the way it is.
I said in passing on the thread for the first part of this story I wouldn't mind if the daleks went out on a story like this, but I guess after a little reflection I've changed my mind. They could drop the daleks, sure, and never run another story about them as long as the series lasts but to actually physically annhilate them from the show for now and evermore? You might as well retire the doctor himself. No, you've got to leave the door open for them and what they stand for in the show. They're the evil that never dies, and the reason the doctor never stops.

Argh! But it's just... so... so... so... annoying!
I think I would have been more happy with it if it hadn't done the temporal shift thing again.
Eh, but you do have a point. When I think about it more... it would be pretty stupid to completely kill off the Daleks.
... I still don't get why the Doctor just walked up to it with no weapons, though. The Dalek could have zapped him dead on the spot.
If they do bring back the Daleks, hopefully it'll be in a better episode than these two. ><;

Series three still hasn't impressed me yet, I mean so far the spidoes havent been bad, persay, but just not up to the standards of S2, in my opinion, S2 i think had abit more wit, and abit better storylines =/
But
: I can't wait for the scarecrow/family of blood/doctor getting married/'im not the doctor' 2-parter, thats something I'm looking forward too!
ok, so this episode.....
Was better then the first part, which is good for me, I don't tend to like the second part of two-parters! The doctor is either getting more suicdial or more stupid in this series(near-deaths for the doctor count: 3)
I found it funny when the doctor ran to the lift after that hug xD
I quite liked the random group of people they met(as they do in dw occasionally), usually i find these one-off tag-alongs annoying, but i found myself liking tallulah, frank, etc. good. Especially Laslzo(however you spell it) he was bad a**. Well when he turned all half-pig like. And I was all happy when he lived ^-^ Is it odd to think he looked more hot when he turned half-pig like? o_0;
Martha actually did something useful! *shock horror* Even if it was utterly ridulous and wouldn't have worked(that conducting device for the pigs btw)
Still not sure if I think Martha is such an awsome companion (as most of you seem to think) Don't get me wrong I like martha....I'd just like to see more of her character shine out at times i guess.

She's just getting her sea legs. Or...whatever. I mean, she's already a lot less >.< than Rose was starting out. A LOT fewer mistakes (*cough*fathersday*cough*)...so far. And it's so much fun to see the Doctor shoot her down EVERY EPISODE. Always my favorite parts.
i wanted to hug dalek sec >: is that so wrong? xd it was an intresting episode, my mother though, is convinced the series is getting worse. im not sure its getting worse.. i think this series in general has been better than last series....
did anyone else think the pig slaves in the lift were funny XD all it needed was cheesy lift music and itd be hilarious! they were just all standing around all 'dum dee dum..' style.. looking around and shifting about. or maybe its just me...
I agree with everything you said.
However, in my opinion, not that I blame the writer, the process through which Sec changed was too dramatic and fast.

Remember what happened last time the doctor walked up to a dalek with a weapon in season 1? It just isn't his style xD Besides the daleks had already not killed him like a bajillion times this episode so I guess he figured one more wouldn't make a difference.
I know this is off topic to this but it is Series 3 related,

Actually, Russell T. Davies has already shot this rumor down. Quote: "Don't be stupid. I haven't even written the script yet, and a woman like that is booked up two years in advance."

I agree with everybody else's rants about this episode, plus I am also annoyed with how they handled the attack on Hooverville. There were lots of gunshots and explosions and fire...and yet no sign of the NYPD or Fire Dept. or ambulances or ANYTHING??? That is ridiculous. I know they want to pretend Hooverville is being ignored by the world, but even if the world ignored the people that thoroughly (which I doubt) they wouldn't ignore the possible threat to the surrounding city! That was just idiotic.
The US finally got Who filmed here...and we got THIS thing. gonkcrying

The Daleks have once again become wussified. Bleh. This was the worst story I've seen since the start of New Who.
Since when did the Doctor become super-indestructible? The guy's had his blood sucked out through a straw, absorbed lethal doses of radiation, and now survives getting zapped by enough electricity to fry a small mob of pig-men. Is this really the same guy who regenerated after bumping his head on the TARDIS console?!
The show really needs a scientific consultant and a competent script editor.
rofl Although I would have been super-upset if he just up and regenerated.
..and major LOL'Z to the rubber-soled shoes, Roobarb!!
Oh yeah, my dad and I were watching "Curse of Fatal Death" the night before this, and I was reminded so much of it when Sec is all "..it was wrong..we must change.." attitude.
I know I sat up straight when that happened. O_0 "I have to go with them. The Daleks changed their minds. Daleks never change their minds." - best quote of the episode!! ..well..that and "Allons-y!!" xD I seem to remember him saying that to Rose and then saying he should use it more often...hmm..
Hmm. I'm in two minds about this story. The first part was gripping, edge of seat stuff, but the second part was lacking. Martha is annoying in this one. (Is it me, or does her accent get more chav-like in every episode? Rose's i could handle because it was meant to be there, but Martha?) I liked Dalek sec. Shame he had to have an American accent- they should have made it more monster like. Or maybe they were going for a more human angle- i dunno... I really hope they don't have a dalek story EVERY series. It's either repetitive or boring. I agree with this comment:

Erm, actually... Kylie's playing a waitress on the Titanic called Astrid, and she got mistaken for a real waitress by this elderly person while they were filming in Swansea!

*raises hand* I liked this episode alot... I enjoy anything with the Daleks in it. I'm glad I haven't seen every episode of Doctor who in existance after reading what everyone else has said about this episode. It seems everyone else has alot to compare the new episodes to... I don't so I liked it more I guess.
