One of my friends got really mad at me a few days ago because he asked me what my religion was while we were at work. And while I had no problem with this particular person knowing, he just couldn't understand why I wouldn't tell him, and it was because we were at work.

And it's not that I want to hide it from people at work, because I don't. Infact, there are several people at work who know. But most of the people at my work are really full of drama, they gossip like nonstop, and most of them are just too ignorant that I don't want to deal with them.

Like these 2 girls, I swear they are the dumbest people I've ever met. One day there were these 2 guys making out in the parking lot and they were going on and on about how wrong it was, etc, etc. (they're both Christian by the way). And I proceeded to tell them that there was nothing wrong with it, etc, etc. They said "well in the bible....". That's where I stopped them, telling them that I'm not Christian and that I don't believe in what's in the bible, etc, etc. You get the point.

So then they asked me what I was. I simply said Pagan. Their response "what's that?" So I tried explaining to them basic Pagan beliefs (or what I believe anyway). I mentioned that I didn't worship the same god as them. They responded with "so you worship Satan?" I of course said no. And then I told them that I wasn't going to discuss it with them anymore because they were too ignorant.

My bosses overheard the whole thing and they were just bursting out with laughter (not at me, but at how stupid those 2 girls were). But my bosses don't like me any less than anyone else because of what I am. Infact, they love me. I actually tried to quit my job there not too long ago and they begged me to stay. And I thought they would've hated me because of it.... although they've probably forgotten it by now. Anyway, myself and one of their other favorite employees (who happens to be my best friend) are Wiccan. And they don't like us any less for it.

So, see, if it's the right person, you don't have to hide it.

Those two girls seem like someone who used to work where I do. Except I was only talking about the church I go to (I am a member at a Unitarian Universalist Church). She insisted on bringing me to her church, which happened to be Southern Baptist. I politely refused.

There was this one guy that overheard me telling someone else. He made fun of me a little and snickered but I basically had to explain it to him. He now thinks I am crazy and makes fun of me now and then but not that much since he thinks I'm more crazy than anything. I am just hoping he doesn't spread more rumors. It has been half a year since I told him so I will be ok. Others that just know just the rumors make fun of me more than he does. I am SOOO glad I only have one month left of high school. I can start over but keep all my most trusted friends. All my good friends know because I can not deny telling them who I am and what is a part of me. I trust my friends more than anything and I am closer to them than my parents.

The only peopleI tell everything to are the deities I worship. I can't really hide anything from them anyway.

I haven't had too many bad moments, really. I was indirectly insulted for my beliefs, though. Here's my story:

My fiance works at a grocery store. He was working with this one woman, and not knowing what to talk about, asked her what she thought about the whole "finding of Jesus' tomb" thing. (This is when it was ALL over the news). She went on to say that she thought it was an act of Satan, and a bunch of blasphemy. Wishing he hadn't brought it up, he kind of just shrugged it off. I can't remember what happened exactly, bu I think she may have asked him what he believed in. He said he was atheistic, but if he ever were to choose a religion, Wicca would be it. This next part I could forgive, if it had stopped there...She wen on to say "You mean DEVIL worship?!" He told her that Wicca had nothing to do with devil worship, and that it was a nature-based religion that envisioned deity in two or more (usually a Goddess and a God). However, she insisted to go on that HE didn't know what he was talking about, and that he was too young to know anything. He argued back, shouting, "Excuse me?! My fiancee is Wiccan! She's been studying for many years! She tells me all of this stuff!"

Of course, she refused to listen; I had the misfortune of meeting her a few months later, while my mom and I went to pick him up from work. She smiled, but she was basically glaring at me; her look said it all; she'd remembered, and she had me pegged as a devil worshipper. (Ironically, this was a day I chose to wear ALL black, a black fishnet top, with a black spaghetti strap over top (otherwise, you could see through it.) black pants, and something I've ben doing since before studying Wicca...black eyeliner; egyptian style. ******** geez...

Apparently, she gets mouthy about it from time to time, and apparently, about other things too. There's no point in even telling her that even SATANISTS don't worship the devil; she's too narow-minded.

All that said, I also would NEVER tell my grandmother; she's a born again Catholic...and she's always been narrow-minded and shallow.... rolleyes

My aunt is Wiccan, however, and my mom is trying to learn about it...via me, oddly enough.

I get stared at, sometimes...

Like, for instance, when a Mormon walked up to myself and my fiance. After delivering his "spiel", he asked us our beliefs; my fiance said atheist, and I said Pagan. He replied, "Oh, well that's interesting..."

I could just SEE the gears turning in his head...I could have laughed...

There was this girl at work (who's Christian) that was saying something about a friend who was a Satanist and how they worshipped the devil, etc. I corrected her and told her that Satanists didn't really worship Satan.

The surprising thing... she said she was going to stop talking about it and apologized for being ignorant. And she was being serious too.

Im glad that a few people learn their lesson. Just a few... I hope it was more people. I am tired of stereotypes.

I did meet a Wiccan today at school and she was hyper and energetic and it was fun being around her.

I probably look different than most pagans since I wear pastels everyday. I just love the soft colors.

eek Why couldn't that have happened to me?

It owuld be nice if fewer people were jerks; ignorance is one thing (I still say people shouldn't just go by what they've heard, they should research it for themselves) but when they are informed, and they still insist to know something they actually know nothing about, it angers me...

You were fortunate, I'd say.

Lunaki: Yeah, they seem to have this idea all Pagans wear black...

I may wear black, but it has nothing to do with my religious beliefs....I'm just more comfortable in dark clothes...where as one of the Wiccans I do know in person wears a lot of bright, flowy things.
