"You bet you better be watching!" Kileyo answered with a childish giggle, wiggling a bit in excitement. He'd FLOWN! Sort of. Kind of...Well, he'd lifted and that was what counted, wasn't it?
"OK! I can do that! Easy!" Easier said than done, maybe. As soon as he lifted he flapped again but didn't manage to go any higher. Instead, he didn't flap fast enough and since he wasn't expecting to fall fell flat on his rear.
"...Ow."

"Whoa, careful there, Killy!" Upon hearing the 'ow', Safi had started forward anxiously, but after only one step realized that he was overreacting a bit. After all, falling from such a short distance was, really, almost nothing. And it was better to fall at this point in the lesson than later!
Still, he walked over to Kileyo and nosed him gently, paying close attention to the colt's wings. "You ok? We don't want you to get too far ahead of yourself and get hurt yet! That could mean no flying for a LONG time, and you don't want that!"
Nor would Safi, for that matter, knowing his son...

He pouted for a good minute before pushing himself back onto his legs. The young colt was determined to at least be as high as Safi had been at just moments before. It wasn't as though he had anything ELSE to do though he was sure his papa did.
"Yeah, 'm fine..." He muttered, disappointed in himself for not being able to do it. "Gonna try again."
He took a breath, stepped back, and flapped, quickly flapping again, and again, until he was a good distance off the ground. Unfortuantely, he had no idea how to BRAKE when going down and fell again.
"Ack! I DID IT!" He was too excited about having done it to worry about the pain his rear was in. Landing on a rock was not fun.

"You bet your boots you did!" And Safi's heart had nearly lept into his throat that the same time. This son of his was every bit asreckless as his daughter, only with wings to make it worse! Granted, he'd been the same way when he was younger...so maybe that wasn't so surprising, in the end.
Moving closer, he once again helped nose his son to his feet, critically eying the NEW site of injury. But having determined that there was no blood, he gave Kileyo a stern whap on the head with a wingtip. "Killy, what did you think you were doing just now?" That was DEFINITELY more height than he'd been supposed to go for!

Killy was too excited to do much other than grin happily at his father - the whap to the head wasn't necessarily horrible and the scolding was nothing compared to the glee he felt.
"Flying! Dad, I was flying! Can you believe it?" And now his rear was starting to feel the rock, but he didn't care. FLYING! "Dad, dad, can I do it again!?"

Had the whap actually been supposed to hurt, Safi might have been a bit more concerned about the apparent disregard for discipline. Still, given the circumstances he couldn't be that upset.
He COULD be stern, though. "Yes, you ere flying alright, and then you were falling. You have to learn how to come down before you can go to high, or you'll wind up breaking your legs and wings both. That in mind...you may try ONCE more, then we're going to take a break for a while. You can practice on your own, as long as you do NOT do more than two flaps, understand?"

His face fell rapidly. Only once more? And no more than two flaps? How bogus was that? "B..but...Dad..." He wanted to fly and two flaps was barely off the ground! And why wasn't he laughing and smiling with him? Hmph.
"Only two...?"

"But Dad nothing, you. You're not the first kid I've taught this to, nor the first kid I've helped raise. Or do you think I didn't notice your little tumble there?" Smiling gently so as to soften the blow of the lesson being cut short, Safi inclined his head towards Kileyo's rump where he knew the flesh had to be tender from landing so sharply on a rock. "Your rump might not hurt much now, but we ought to have Liz heal that before it really starts to hurt."
Stepping back, Safi folded his wings over his back with an air of finality, the nod of his head mere emphasis of that point. "And yes, only two. You have to learn how to float down before you go higher. Unless you like falling like a sack of potatoes?" Anything was possible, after all, but Safi knew Fortune wouldn't approve of such recklessness...nor did he, to be honest.
"Two more flaps, then a heal, then we work on landing."
