@ Bouncy: Whenever I'm writing a test, one of my foxes will take the role of Devil's Advocate. Spur, I suspect, would face Hylden. If I ask someone else to write a test in the future, they'd use one of their foxes as Devil's Advocate. It's not a permanent position - sorry if that was unclear. I'll start work on a test for Spur, if you think she's likely to want to join: from what I remember she was unsure in the RP. And thanks for the resticky. ^w^

@ PLE: Awesome - Jupo will face Atticus as his Devil's Advocate, so watch this space for your test!

@ White Oblivion: Thank you! ^w^ Your test will be in my next post.

The Devil's Advocate: Jaden vs Atticus

After having been grudgingly admitted to the Sanguinite lands for his test, Jaden is led to the Syndicate's current base of operations by a green huntress named Hylden. His Devil's Advocate, Atticus the shaman, demands of him his art, and then begins to examine his worth to the Syndicate.

"As I am sure you are aware, reading is not an art that many foxes have mastered. What worth is there, good fox, in writing that so few can read? Surely an artist seeks to reach the whole world with his creations - how do you propose to do that if they cannot understand your writings?"

He pauses for effect, glancing at his comrades, then continues.

"And what of the exceptions, such as myself? I can read, and do so for my own enjoyment - I read simple print in books, on paper, on walls and on signposts. I do not read embellished characters such as the ones you create. Do you know why? I do not read to look at the letters, good fox. I read for the content, for the images invoked by the words that I understand. What worth, then, has your calligraphy? Most cannot understand it, and those who can - if they are at all like myself - find it pointless."

A fox in the darkness gives a murmur of assent. Nearby, the face of the Boss as she towers over her Sanguinites is grim.

"I charge you," says Atticus, his expression full of the detached resolve that is necessary for a Devil's advocate, "defend your art. Defend this calligraphy, and convince the Syndicate that your place is with us."

All eyes are on Jaden. It is his turn to speak, and everything rides on his answer.

It took Jaden but a moment to make every last sound, every last whisper and noise fade in his ears and the only thing that remained, lingering was the other fox's question. Sure, it was a tricky enough question and sure, it seemed that whatever he might say he'd probably be just forcing the others to the same conclusion the Shaman had pointed to but no. Doing three turns around himself, as if for good luck, he took but a step forward and started talking.

"Sure, good sir." he spoke back in the same way the other had just spoken to him. "I do understand what you mean and I do understand that you are mostly probably right. But you do read, good sir, you are an artist of a trade only few understand as well. You should be the first one to notice that one is not an artist for the 'art' itself, he is an artist for 'himself' and for 'the world' just as you noticed. Your art, you use it for your own enjoyment and there is no telling the joy that I get from doing what I do." he paused for a moment, and shook his tail a little, his stunning silver eyes skipping through faces in the crowd.

"But of course I said 'for the world' as well, so what good is the art that noone understands in depth?" he question rhetorically, for of course he expected no answer. "Because I didn't of course imply that a whole aspect of the world of art deserves to exist just because of my personal enjoyment, even though it could as well be that way..." he paused again. "Calligraphy, good sir," he went on after a moment "Is the art of beautiful writing, it is the art of giving form to simple letters, signs, people use for the comunication of those feelings and images put down on paper but in an extended, expressive, harmonious and skillful manner, similar to that of a painter. The ornated characters are not there just to adorn the text but to add deeper meaning to it, invoke the reader's, and the non-reader's -simple admirer's- senses and add to the visual pleasure, just like a finished masterpiece of a painting would." he stopped again and gently nodded his head, humbly so, looking over at Atticus with the tiniest idea of anticipation in his body's possition and the sideways tilting of his head.

((*Sigh* I guess I must have cursed myself. I had tooth-problems and so I was late repplying... this always just HAS to happen to me. Anyway... it's up now...))

Jaden was born in an insignificant little house, in an insignificant little town. He was given birth to amidst the havoc of a stormy night, Friday and thirteenth. It was a most unlucky day for most people, at least for those believing in magic and things like fortune and fate, for the young pitch-black fox to be born.
There was nothing of interest in this little town apart maybe from its only large building, a manor of late Victorian architecture. This building wasn't something special on its own either. The special 'thing' was its content. Rows upon rows upon even more rows of shelves packed with any kind of book one could imagine!!
Of course this library was of no interest to a young fox kit, even if it was as quiet and secluded as young Jaden was.

Jaden first came in touch with the world of literature and letters when he was but slightly older. One night, much like the one in which he was given birth to, at which time a storm raged as well. Running for cover at the nearest building, he jumped through one of the basements window’s without giving it much thought. Water was an element the young fox never favored much.
He found himself in a small warm and, thankfully, dry room. It was most probably used as a storing space for books that didn’t fit in the shelves of the rest of the library. In his later, mature life he’d have been overexcited to find a place such as this, but right now the only thing he found of interest to was nap.
And nap he did but when he woke up the rain hadn’t yet stopped and he didn’t really find the idea of going out while it was pouring very appealing. The last thing there for him to do was look through the various books. One peek through the pages of an old manuscript was enough to entice both his eyes as well as his mind. The beautifully curved lettering seemed to speak the mood of the writer on its own; he could basically guess how the person who was writing was feeling when he wrote, even though little did he understand from the actual writing.

Ever since that day, day after day, he would return to the library, sneaking in from the same window, to get to read more and more. His zeal and enthusiasm for the new world of art he came to discover on his own was so great that he soon came to recognize the symbols exactly -and each respectively- and he could read freely. The books he liked best were still manuscripts, like the one he had first 'read', because of the unique beauty of each not found in regular, typed books. But soon, reading manuscripts wasn’t enough either, it didn't give him enough freedom to express. It forced him, it restrained him, within the feelings of other people while his own remained unheard and unspoken. He desired more. He needed more. Just watching wasn’t enough. He wanted to create something of his own, something new!
So he placed it as a highest, personal goal; to learn to write and draw well enough as to be able to create a manuscript as beautiful that anyone would be able to understand whether they really knew how to write, or not…
It was due to his dedication and his hard work that he would soon come to be known as a calligrapher.

Welcome, Jaden Sanguinius!

Congratulations, Jaden and White Oblivion, and welcome to the Sanguine Syndicate. ^w^ I don't know if tribe tattoos/piercings are being done at the moment, but nonetheless get your info and trade ready to send to Modifox.

Here follows Jupo's test: ))

The Devil's Advocate: Jupo vs Atticus

The Sanguinites are impressed with Jupo's conduct when Sonia introduces him. Even Hylden, who dislikes kits on principle, is civil to him once Sonia has explained his condition. Atticus the shaman attends to the Boss' injured paw, and even as he does so he questions his leader's rescuer.

"The art of kindness, you say? Improving upon a painting as a metaphor for improving the world? ...Well, this is all well and good, and spoken like an artist at heart, but to face the questions of the Devil's Advocate and be admitted to the Syndicate one must have something substantial to offer. Tell me, Jupo...where can we see your art? Can anyone touch it? Will passers-by look upon it and say "there is the work of a Sanguinite"? You have good intentions, my friend, but we all know to whence good intentions pave the road."

Sonia bristles a little at his words, but controls herself. She must not intervene, no matter how much she may want Jupo to join the Syndicate.

"I look around, Jupo, and I see a difficult world," Atticus continues in a solemn voice. "I see a world where good creatures such as our Mother Sonia are subjected to fear, pain, and doubt. Surely you cannot hope, with this art of yours, to be seen in that world. Surely you cannot believe that your kindness will ever make so much as a ripple in the ocean of this world. What, then, is its purpose?"

This time, Sonia swallows a smile. Atticus seems to want to admit Jupo as well - his question is a challenge, but it is also an offer. He remains detached on the surface, though, every bit the professional Devil's Advocate.

"Defend your art, Jupo," Atticus says softly. "Tell the Sanguinites what difference you will make - or you hope to make - to our Syndicate."

The Sanguinites watch the strange newcomer with curiosity. They, like Sonia and Atticus, are interested to see what Jupo is capable of.

Jupo who had followed them over more for Sonia then anything else was surprised that he had been accepted or appeared to be liked at any rate. This encouraged him greatly and he felt ready. He listened carefully to the words spoken to him. At first his eyes did indeed widen with concern and worry. As Atticus did have some very strong points. How could one see his art? Sitting back on his hind legs, Jupo cleared his throat. It had taken him a moment to think carefully but he again felt he was ready for this.

"Kupo, you bring up good points good sir, but since when has all art been seen? Music is an art form that is heard and literature is not something you can look at and say that is art. Well...you could but that doesn't mean it actually is art, unless one actually reads it and finds its inner workings truly a masterpiece. Not every book one sees is art." Jupo's wings wings fluttered a bit as he felt a bit unsure. After all the little guy was on the spotlight, but he would not give up. No, not yet.

"Now my art, kupo, is definitely something different from the ordinary. I know though that it can be seen. " Jupo looked up to Atticus and smiled his bright blue eyes filled with a determined look.

"It tends to happen, at least kupo, from what I have seen. Show kindness to one and they in turn show some kindness to another. Now it may not be visible but as long as the kindness is passed on I am sure it will make some impact. Kupo, by helping to fix this world, which as we both know is not looking its best helps to give hope and shows people there is kindness in this world. Also by people having new found hope they too work to better themselves and others. I am not an artist that creates a masterpiece but I help it to help itself. Just as a mother and father help their child to grow and head down a righteous path." Jupo took in a deep breath and then relaxing let it out.

"That my good sir is my art. Kupo." Jupo smiled warmly he looked to Sonia and bowed his head softly. The pom-pom on his head bouncing a bit. Even if he wasn't fully accepted he would continue on his work or as some have told him his mission.

Fox's Art: Music
Devil's Advocate Request: Alredy have a Sanguinite ^^
RP Sample(s): ^^ You know me from Nequus and such
Have you read the rules and requirements?: Yes ^^

Tristan’s profile

Name: Tristan
ID: 0100
Colour: FS; pale blue and green
Tribe: None (sanguine syndicate hopeful)
Position: NA
Alignment: Neutral good; Although he is a very distant fox, Tristan cares about the people who manage to catch his attention and he hasn’t a cruel bone in his body.
Orientation: Sonia
Mate: None
Parents: Unknown
Offspring: None
Piercings: None
Tattoos: None
Jewelry: None

Personality: Tristan is a very distant fox, and many would consider him to be stupid. This however, is not the case; he is merely very distracted by the sounds around him and places as much importance on the patter of rain on a window as he does on the voices of other modies. This leads him to be very soft spoken, so as not to interrupt what he calls the world-song, and to trail off half way through a sentence if he notices a particularly interesting beat or theme nearby. If he hears something ‘missing’ from the sounds around him he feels compelled to add to it by tuneful but wordless singing, splashing in water, rattling his claws on a dustbin and all other manner of things.

His memory runs in the same vein as his attention; he recalls sounds that pleased him, and most of the things that surrounded the sounds. Other than this, if he is around certain people a lot, he slowly builds up a memory of them as people rather than just sound-makers, or things that got in his way. He makes little effort to find food for himself and probably would have starved long ago if not for the food given to him by humans whose homes he passes on a regular basis.

History: Though he does not remember it, Tristan was cared for in his early days by his mother. One evening however, when the two were out looking for food in the suburbs, they were set upon by a group of modies who lived in the area. The two foxes fled, and the gang pursued them. In desperation, Tristan’s mother veered off across a busy road, her adolescent son not far behind her. Half way across the road however, the vixen was struck by a car and killed instantly. In the confusion of beeping horns and swerving tires, Tristan was hit as well and flung to the side of the road. The gang left the pair for dead, as did the humans driving the cars.

Tristan however, was not dead; he awoke some time during the night and lay where he was listening to the rhythm of the city. He could not remember who he was beyond his name let alone anything about his mother. In the darkness of the night he didn’t even see her body as he got to his paws and limped off to investigate the wonderful sounds that he felt he was hearing for the very first time. Since then he has lived in the city listening to it, adding to it, and wondering vaguely if one day he might find a purpose to the song.

Sonia says:

Welcome, Tristan Sanguinius!

Congrats to Tawny on his second Sanguinite, and to Tristan on finding his place in the world. ^w^ As PLE says, mods are on hold at the moment - get your form ready all the same, though. 3nodding

Above is an example of what to do with second and subsequent applications after the first successful one. You don't need all the info that Tawny's given at the beginning, though if you're copying straight from your journal and you keep records like these then by all means include them. ^w^ If your fox is clearly suitable, as Tristan is, no further test is needed. For borderline cases, though, a normal test may be required.

Okay, announcement: tribe tattoos and piercings are currently open! Everyone who's got an unmarked/unpierced Sanguinite should check the first page for details, get their info ready and PM it to Modifox. To cover the cost of the mods, you'll also need to send Modifox a trade of...I believe 1k, but don't hold me to that. Best check the main thread. 3nodding

Heey :3 So... two issues... I want to roleplay Jaden within the Syndicate, but I don't know where -so directions please- also, becasue I'm filling the form for the tribe tattoo, I want him to wear the blade as well but the earring doesn't fit well with the other modifications I want to do on him, so... I was wondering if he could wear the blade on a tail-ring of some sort. I know this is done under certain circumstances though, so I need to ask... ^-^

^^ I think, but am not certain, that we just set up threads in the RP forum. If you're looking for somebody to RP with I'm up for it ^^

1 - RP is done within the RP forum, usually, but you may RP here if you wish. It's just usually more convenient to set up a thread of your own in the RP forum. 3nodding

2 - No. Damaged ears that could not support an earring, an edited hairstyle or something that would be in the way of the ear, an outstanding introduction to the Syndicate or having been here since the beginning - these are the only ways to get the blade somewhere other than on an earring. I'm afraid Jaden doesn't fit any of these criteria. If you're worried about the blade not fitting with the other mods you've planned for him, you are allowed to opt out of the earring. (Hylden, for example, doesn't wear it because she feels that piercings would interfere with her work as a Hunter.)
