Hienna appreciated his efforts - sort of. She just opened one eye and sighed sorrowfully, "Well, let me at least catch my breath before we start walking again."

After all, it had been stressful to run so far twice! And all the emotional things? She was tired! However, a few moments later she was dragging herself up and poking him gently with her horn, "Lead the way?"

"Your own fault, remember; racing was your idea, not mine!" Either time, to be frank...but really, there was no need to argue with results. Making a face at the poke of the horn, he playfully swatted at her with a wing. "Sure, mates for less than an hour and you're already trying to do me in! Obviously I need to keep a closer hold on you."

That said, he once again draped a wing over Hie's back, holding her close at his side as the two started off. "Now, there's a stream not TOO far from here, but you're going to have to hold out until then."

"Now THAT I would not mind," she said softly, nestling against him for a moment before they started to walk. It was amazing how free she felt letting go of her mother. How long it would last, she had no idea - but she liked this feeling.

"I am sure I can manage, Zaphiro, though you may have to hold me close and not let me wilt."

It was really amazing to think about, the way Hienna made him feel. Never before had he felt this sort of connection to another, and the SORT of connection...one moment they're laughing and teasing each other, the next he's being sappy and wanting to do nothing beyond cuddle her.

However, there was nothing wrong with feeling strongly about the one you loved, regardless of whether that was cameraderie or attraction, right? Of course not.

Smiling, he turned his head to nuzzle her, inhaling the sweet scent of her mane as he did so. It was like a walk in the forest in springtime, the sweet smell of flowers and grass...

And now he was just being silly. Lifting away his muzzle, he gave her a fond smile. "If that's what it took to keep you fresh, I'd hold you forever, Hienna; in fact, I might even do that anyway, since I like it so much." To put it mildly!

Hienna couldn't help but laugh at that, "I do not think I'd mind that much either, surprisingly enough. Just promise me that when you do hold me we can ramble about the stars or ponder the use of hands or wonder if woodpeckers get headaches from banging their beaks into a tree all day..."

Zaphiro was such a wonderful Soquili to talk to and there was nothing that could change her mind on that unless he moved onto the subject of weather. Then she may have to scold him.

"...Or whether butterflies feel resentful of their colors, or whether it's possible to catch a rainbow...but you know, I was thinking right now that it's really nice and warm today..."

And the mischief was back in his eyes as they darted to Hienna, daring her to react to THAT.

"Zaphiro! I'm surprised at you! Resorting to talking about the weather. Has your brain shriveled up already?" Hienna tsked lightly and shook her head, her own eyes gleaming, "Though I do agree it's feeling a bit warm. It probably has nothing to do with the fact you're holding me hm?"

The unicorn turned her head to look at him with a smirk. This was definitely nice.

"And supposing that my brain HAD shrivelled, what would you do then? Abandon me like so many pieces of dandelion fluff? If you think I'm going to let THAT happen, you're absolutely loony, m'dear."

Her response to his weathr comment was just as amusing as he'd thought; obviously the two of them were allowed to talk about anything and everything BUT the weather.

Well, the weather was overrated anyway.

Returning a smirk with a chuckle of his own, Zaphiro gave Hienna a head shake. "Maybe so, but if that's the case I'd say we're going to just have to deal with it. I happen to like you where you are, and if you think making accusations against me is going to change things, you're sadly mistaken!"

"Mm, no. If your brain was dandelion fluff I'd simply collect it and keep it with me forever. You can't get rid of me THAT easily, I'm afraid. Sorry to break it to you, Zaphiro, you're mighty stuck with me."

And indeed, they could speak about anything but the weather. Enough conversations had been on that subject to last the mare a lifetime and she wasn't about to spend the rest of it with Zaphiro speaking about the heat of the day - or the lack there of.

"Well I happen to like where I am too. How far until the stream?"
PostPosted: Mon Mar 12, 2007 2:08 pm

"So now my BRAIN is dandelion fluff? Gads, you are an insulting little thing, aren't you?" The seriousness of that comment was belied by the teasing little n** Zaphiro gave her jaw, and the amusement still alight in his eyes. "And yes here I am, putting up with it. I must be tougher than I thought!"

Or something like that.

At her last question, he had to chuckle, jerking his head to indicate the silvery stripe about ten paces ahead of them. "Still thirsty?"

"No, no, you misunderstood. See, your brain is already shriveling up, love. I said IF your brain was and I was trying to make a sweet comment." She laughed softly and lifted her head to give him a sweet little nuzzle, "Yeah, big tough--Oh! Water!"

She slid away from him and raced toward the stream, almost falling in before drinking thirstily.

Hie hadn't been kidding when she'd said she was thirsty.

And he'd thought that HE was bad about changing his train of thought. Unable to resist the humor of the situation, Zaph threw back his head and laughed soundly at Hienna's undisguised delight at the water.

Strolling downstream a few paces, he gave his mate a fond look. Such excitement over something so simple...in that, she was consistant; it didn't take big flashy things to make her happy, and that was another thing about her he adored.

However, he had a lifetime to adore his mate; right now, he needed a drink.

It likely never would take anything flashy to make Hienna happy. The mare was grinning as she drank greedily from the stream, eyes closed in bliss as the water slid down her throat and coated her tongue.

She had been parched from all that running and sobbing. In fact, she was so wrapped up in the sweet water she didn't feel Zaphiro's eyes on her at all. Odd that she wasn't paying attention to things such as that any longer.

Finally she had her fill and stepped out of the water, shaking her hoof and sending the droplets through the air.

"That was quite refreshing."

Being much less thirsty than Hienna, it had only taken Zaphiro a few sips to quench his thirst; but rather than waste an opportunity, he'd settled down on the riverbank to watch Hienna.

Out in the clear morning sun, she was like a dazzling jewel, an ornament on the face of the earth; her mane hung about her ears as she drank, and her horn created delicate ripples as it touched the water, ripples that spread out and collided with the ripples made by her tongue and lips as she drank.

He was still watching her as she stepped out the water, watching her with the proprietary gaze of one who wouldn't want to watch anything else. BUt he was far from dumbstruck; once she'd shaken herself off, he was giving her another grin. "And here I thought you said you HATED cold water!"

Hienna turned to look at him and rolled her eyes before trotting over to settle down beside him, "I do hate cold water unless I'm hot, tired from running, and as thirsty as a cactus - of which I was all three."

She grinned and nuzzled at him lovingly, "I don't like being surprised and splashed by cold water in the morning when it's not warm enough to properly dry off. I still owe you for that."
