Well, Webber is a bit heartless when it comes to Phantom of the Opera. Instead of being faithful to the phans and wanting to please them, he simply wants the money. To him, PotO has been the prize cow giving the cream to enrichen his pockets. As long as he can stretch it out, he's happy whether or not it ruins the original story and whatever he first planted as a gift for his (now ex) wife, Sarah Brightman.

Schumacher was basically the same way with the film. You can look at his other films based on books (Batman, for example) and see he makes god-awful tweaks. With both of them bucking heads together in a giddy frenzy, some very disreputable messes spurted forth.

Those unfamiliar with the story may embrace his piddlings, but he does not count in the fact that there are thousands if not millions of Phans around the world, ready for the literary throw-down of the century.

I believe that even if he does not stick closely with the novel for a sequel, which phans can't really hope for considering the alterations made to the current, he should at least honor his own play. Obviously transisting from novel to play will be a bumpy transfusion, things will have to be changed and cut. However, a sequel has never been made into a musical so he has the power to at least make something new. It should be good though, not PoM. If we can't hope for anything cannon, then let's at least hope for something fitting.

The man has no respect for the original story. That's why he approved PoM in the first place and even gave Forsyth some of the ideas for it. The man can be a pioneer and create a sequal via musical, but I doubt it will even hold a match to the original story.

Not only that, if the sequal flops, it might give other morons reason to finally out-do Webber and create their own, which will end up only in more frustration.

~sigh~ If he's going to write more PotO, can't it at least be a prequel? That might actually be kinda interesting.

Prequel= Kickass
Sequel= Precursor to the Apocalypse

ALW neds to stop trying to see how far he can screw the fans over.

That is true, he does not have much respect for the story. He is trying to experiment a little too much. Not much good will come of this I am afraid. I would rather he do a prequel then anything else.

Honestly, if you shine a gem too much eventually it will shatter. Didn't he learn that from the revisions made to the play in the movie?

So I told someone about this the other day, and she said, "A sequel to PotO? WOAH that's going to be AWESOME."
But her phandom is pretty much limited to the '04 movie. Which is obviously the audience ALW is aiming towards anyway, so I guess they'll think it's fantastic no matter what. talk2hand
I'm sure the sequel will be entertaining if nothing else...in the same way that I thought, say, Rambo II was entertaining. ^ ^;;

To me, it'll be as entertaining as seeing Passion of the Christ. I don't go to the movies to cringe for three hours. I certainly am not going to endorse a show that makes me wish I could dissect Webber.

I think before we say anything, we'd have to , you know, actually see it first. Then we can complain. Until then, why don't we all cross our fingers and just hope it will be really good? Wouldn't that be the best thing. I'm only worried about who's going to play the Phantom. I am convinced no one will be able to do such a good job as...hold on. OH THIS IS TERRIBLE!!! I am currently listening to this CD with Michael Crawford, and so he's singing music of the night...oh my good god, they have put in a freakin' girl singer...IT'S A DUET!!!! WITH BARBARA STREISAND!! (no offence or anything,) HELP ME...HOLY FREAKIN' COW!!! WHY RUIN A SONG BY LETTING A GIRL SING IT WITH HIM!!!!!???
Sorry about that anyways, despite that little blunder, I'm convinced no one will be able to do such a good job as Michael Crawford did. That guy in the movie was terrible compared to Crawford, anyway. But we should still give it a chance. It could be another masterpiece!

That was so bloody random I lost track of what you were saying.

As Fox said, have you even READ PoM? About 98% of the phandom loathes the book and with good reason. I have a list of everything wrong with the book I will gladly post so you can see just what Webber wants to delve into as a god-forbidden sequal.

yes, that would be eons better than a sequel. i dont know, it just ...it would ruin the story that we for so long have cherised....its just been to much time in my opinion. i think he should scrap the idea unless he plans on making a prequel
