"Nope. It don't work that way. Ah know Nuka's name but you an' Da kept sayin' he was a stranger... So even if ya know her name she's a straaangeer an Ah'm tellin'." Yup. She'd get him right back for being such a brat to her.

She tilted her head high, feeling pretty darned good about herself as she began to trot around. One victory lap was enough to make her feel better before she turned to the other filly. "Mah name's Atsila... An' you shouldn't talk ta Sedi. He's not at all nice ta girls. He thinks they're silly an' that they don't know nothin'."

Blinking, Saiena looked from Sedi to Atsil, a fascinated look on her face. So THIS was what it was like to have a brother or sister...it meant you had someone to argue with!

Though they weren't arguing very smart, it seemed like.

Eyeing the other filly, Saiena's tone was perplexed. "But YOU'RE talkin' to me too, Atsila; so if HE gets in trouble for talkin' to me, won't you?" That only seemed logical, after all; not that she wanted either of her new friends to get in trouble, but if their parents didn't like strangers...

"An' maybe your parents only don' like strange GROWNUPS. That's what my Papa said, 'pparently." At least, according to what Sedi had said. "And I do SO know things!"

He grinned trimuphantly. "Yea! see. Ya tell Dah that ah was talkin ta'er then ya gotta say ya were too" So she'd get in just as much trouble. "Sides ... Dah neva said ah couldn't talk ta people"

Dah had just said that he had to be nice to girls. Nuka was bad so it was bad for them to talk to him so he wouldn't. Dah hadn't said it was bad to talk to other's that were their age.

"Don't work that way when Ah'm already in trouble." She snorted, tilting her nose high. She knew she was in trouble so she couldn't really get into any more... But Sedi could get into some and then she wouldn't be alone in it. "Ah can't get in no more trouble than Ah already Ah'm."

She then flashed the other filly a smile. "Ah can talk ta whoever Ah want to. Ah've been tellin' Sedi that... But he don't listen none."

Confusing confusing confusing! Listening to these two talk was even more hard to follow than listening to her father and Fortune!

The other girl seemed to be awfully stubborn, though, an foolish. You could ALWAYS get into more trouble, 'specially if there were parents involved.

Still, it seemed like they were getting no where; how could she enjoy her time with her new friends if they were fighting?

"You two are conFUSING." Right to the point!

"Nuh hun!! you'll just get in more troubal! Ah won't get in troubal cause ah not doing nothin wrong." He hadn't been told not to talk she had! "Dah'll be mad at ya and nothin'll happen ta me"

"That ain't fair!" She huffed, pawing at the ground before running forward to give her brother a light butt to the shoulder with her head. It wouldn't hurt him... Just knock him off-balance maybe. Maybe, if she was really lucky. It wasn't fair. Why was Sedi allowed to make new friends but she wasn't? No fair at all!

Saiena was amazed. Watching the brother and sister interact was unlike anything she'd ever seen before, though she wasn't sure if that was a good thing or no...

"Amazing. Your first day allowed off on your own, and this is what you do, Sai-sai? I REALLY don't think your father would approve of you getting involved in fights."

The words, wryly spoken in a familiar voice, caused Saiena to tear her attention from Sedi and Atsila, gaping in surprise at the speaker; a small ice blue fox that sat beside a nearby shrub, watching the tussling foals with unmasked distaste. "Cerdi? What're you DOIN' here?"

What WAS her father's familiar doing out here?

"So?" He oofed as his sister butted him and stumbled slightly but didn't fall over. "Dah says ya can't talk ta Nuka .. so ya gotta find friends Dah'll let ya talk ta."

He had been about to tell her something about how Dah knew she'd get in trouble because she was a girl when he heard another voice. His eyes widened as he looked for another one of them. Did his new friend have other friends who were going to play too?

She was about to respond with something waspish and not at all that nice when she heard the same voice that her brother did; a voice that caused her to freeze. Her eyes went wide as she backed away, eyeing the creature that the voice came from. She had never seen one of those before. Was that one of the 'bad things' that Nuka said ate foals when they wandered off on their own?

She let out a little shriek, diving behind her brother. "Don't let it eat me!"

Cerdi didn't know where to begin; this whole situation was utterly ridiculous and COMPLETELY beyond the sort of things he'd been anticipated when he agreed to help out the Boss by tailing his daughter. He hadn't planned on having to interject amidst three crazed kidlets! But it looked like he had to.

Sighing, the little fox fluffed up his tail and gave Saiena an exasperated look. "Keeping an eye on you, what does it look like? And with good reason, too."

Sniffing, he looked over at the other filly; her shrieking was VERY unpleasant, and totally uncalled for. "I'm not going to eat you, so you don't have to shriek like a crazed banshee. Have a little pity on the ears, eh? I'm just here with her, that's all; on the orders of her father. Which, it seems, was a smart idea! Do you two ALWAYS nag at each other like that? Christ, it must give your parents a headache to end all others!"

Throughout the fox's entire lecture, Saiena had been frowning; that frown had deepened as each new second passed, and when the realization finally dawned on her, she was downright mad.

He was SPYING on her! Her papa hadn't trusted her to go off on her own, he'd just SAID he would and then sent his fox to keep an eye on her.

"This is SOOO not fair, Cerdi! You aren't s'posed to BE here!"

And he wasn't. She could feel her cheeks flushing darkly with both upset and embarrassment; she had TOLD her new friends that she was on her own, and here he was, telling them that he was watching her! Didn't he KNOW how bad that was?

He thought the, the, the whatever it was happened to be interesting. Leaving his sister behind him he walked forward and leaned down to sniff at the new thing. "Nag? What's that.... s'tha what our talkin is called? Dah don't call it that."

Her nose wrinkled and she glared at Sedi. Some great protector he was... Just walking away when there was something with fangs that might eat her! Oh, yes, she was supposed to stay with him and he'd keep her safe. Riiight.

She trotted after him, making sure that he remained between her and the strange creature with big, sharp teeth. It could eat him first... And she'd run away. Of course, listening to the other filly wail at the creature it seemed that, if anything, whatever it was, it wasn't much different than Sedi; being right where it wasn't supposed to be.

"Of course I'm supposed to be here, Saiena, and a good thing too. I'm glad to know that you at least have a little bit of common sense, unlike this...colt with which you're associating." This comment was delivered with a firm frown Sedi's direction, the result of both annoyance and wariness. Cerdi had an awfully large personal space for a fox, and didn't like to be touched. However, this was business!

Turning his sharp eyes on Sedi, Cerdi gave him a severe look. "Nagging, bickering, it's all the same. And regardless, I have to say I don't like you schooling impressionable minds in how to lie to their parents. Bad enough if you lie to yours without it spreading to others-"

"Cerdi, shut UP! Just because Papa isn't here don' mean you can LECTURE my new friends, or me! I get to be on my own, an' Sedi an' 'Sila are NOT grown-ups, an' we HAVEN' left the area, so we're FINE. If you don' leave me alone RIGHT now, I'm gonna throw you in the river!"

This threat was punctuated by a firm stomp of Saiena's hoof, clear indication of her growing upset. How DARE he?

Her father's familiar had never liked her, and once she realized that she hadn't cared for him much, either. Cerdi was snappy and tactless, haughty and rude to anyone that wasn't Safi. And she DEFINITELY wasn't her father. But when he played unfair, so could she! And he HATED getting wet.

And the threat got the requisite response. Cerdi only had to look at Saiena to know she wasn't kidding, and the look he gave her was full of loathing. "Damned if I'm going to spend my time babysitting a brat anyway; but I AM going to go and tell your father about this right now, and don't be surprised if he comes to fetch you back IMMEADIATELY."

With that and one last venomous look around, Cerdi turned and raced off into the underbrush, leaving the three foals to their own devices yet again.

"Ah don't lie ta my Dah!" He didn't lie. If his Dah asked he'd tell him but if no one asked then you didn't have to tell. That was just how it worked.

When the little blue thing ran off he huffed. "Ah don like tha whatevah tha was. E's mean." It didn't seem like his new friend liked it much either so that was okay.
